mircea_popescu: this whole tex/svg/png/
pdf/fuckall thing is becoming a major problem.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform even a
pdf to png transfer, with the images pasted on a html page, would be preferrable.
pete_dushenski: archive.is, webarchive, jpeg thingies... none of them could save it. so there's a 16mb
pdf. hooray
phf: Framedragger: alf's archive link ~is~ bitsavers, it's just not like 1
pdf. it's about 200 of them, so you kind of need to narrow it down a bit
phf: fwiw dpans has a copy of tex source, first or second to last draft before the standard was sent over to ansi. there's two projects that cleanup that tex, one is dpans2texi which produces texinfo formatted (this is what i use from emacs) and another by some russians that produces a clean

mircea_popescu: yeah, it's vaguely inhuman, this. the scholar in me is constantly opressed by various shits. 1. "oh we don;t alphabet -

pdf decoder ring later an see what's in there

pdf document??"
phf: i guess the two are in lockstep. you get
pdf in your email, you save it to file, you open it with xpdf. a dwim equivalent is to open it, dwiw style, right in the mail client. can't do that with xpdf (actually you can but need to read specs for x11, yawn), so make xpdf into a library, embed the whole thing into client.
mircea_popescu: myeah i was looking more for a single line from credible souce. "
pdf" from usg exact opposite on all scores.
mircea_popescu: otherwise... a piece of
pdf reading "supoena" is not distinguishable or to be distinguished from an email reading "you have won the google intel microsoft award"
mircea_popescu: for maximal lulz, return
pdf subpoenas, "unreadable proprietary format - please resend in latex".
Framedragger: ..and then they render to
pdf. but yeah good people also link to tex source on their websites, true..
