jfw:
polarbeard patch which I haven't yet got reground.

mircea_popescu: do you have a value for "doing the
polarbeard stupid" ? can you explain what it is ?
mircea_popescu: (neither of these options is good. if the former, why the fuck doing the
polarbeard stupid, what, not read the logs ? if the latter, umm...)

a111: Logged on 2018-04-25 04:01 mircea_popescu: but in the general i suppose
polarbeard's adventure is kinda illustrative of YET ANOTHER failure mode of personal heroics. besides the "lalala i can't hear" style there's apparently also the "oh, who has time for small steps, i'ma make huge contributions as a virtual unknown".
a111: Logged on 2018-04-25 03:53 phf: trinque: there wasn't anything wrong with
polarbeard's patches in general, he just happened to be doing his work when there was a lot of regrinds going on in the tree and after third time he was asked to regrind he decided he had enough and quit

☟︎ mod6: bah. *re:
polarbeard, phf is right...
mod6: re:
polarbeard is right, guy simply isn't in the wot (afaik), so partly, I'm trying to solution on my own without polluting my path too much.
phf: trinque: there wasn't anything wrong with

☟︎ trinque: mod6: what was wrong with
polarbeard's exactly? my patch is more or less his.
phf: asciilifeform: it very briefly worked with
polarbeard's patches, but that was around active reground time, so the result wasn't particularly interesting. but you could press to experimental head with or without pb's additions, based on whether or not he was in your wot
trinque: this is the node we were discussing, makefiles.vpatch +
polarbeard trinque: pressed to makefiles then patched
polarbeard atop manually
trinque: asciilifeform: makefiles +
polarbeard sendrawtx
mircea_popescu: so
polarbeard made the patches "wrongly". fine, it happens to be true. how is it verified ?

phf: also one of
polarbeard's, but that one has to be reground anyway
mircea_popescu: i have ~0 interest to bake into permanent history either
polarbeard or punkman.
mircea_popescu: anyway, i tried /invite
polarbeard but *
polarbeard :No such nick/channel ; anyone know him irl drop a line ?
jhvh1: mircea_popescu: I have not seen
polarbeard.
mod6: speaking of trinque's usage of
polarbeard's rawtx vpatch -- im planning to get deeper into that this month.
trinque: asciilifeform: there's no hot wallet here; I'm marching my ass over to another box and making signed tx, then popping into a trb with
polarbeard patch for sendrawtransaction
phf: there's a handful of those, for example in the experimental there's three patches from
polarbeard, a guy who joined as we were regriding a bunch of shit, so he had to update his patches a bunch of times and then gave up. nobody cared to reintegrate his patches properly yet
pete_dushenski: my own recent efforts at coding are going less productively. trying to implement
polarbeard's 'getpeerinfo' patch and can't even get trb to show the option on the help menu nevermind implement the functionality
phf: and i don't think anyone cared enough to regrind
polarbeard's patches (actually come to think of it, he had to do it himself two or three times, at which point he gave up)
phf: according to btcbase it depends on polarbeard_better_log_messages, which doesn't press cleanly (that was around the time when a bunch of things got reground, pbd meanwhile dropped out)
ben_vulpes: jurov: didn't
polarbeard or whomever threaten us with a js v?
mod6: I've reviewed the rawtx submission that
polarbeard sent.
ben_vulpes: well also
polarbeard did some objectionable whole-codebase patching

gribble: I have not seen

gribble: I have not seen

phf: experimental doesn't press cleanly half the time, because of rebasing issue. for example it has
polarbeard's patches that link into graph, but are all over the place with their press dependency
phf: trinque: i say, press to polarbeard_remove_shrink_debug_file, then patch -p1 < polarbeard_better_log_messages, then vpatch the result, then do same for polarbeard_add_getpeerinfo_rpc. that's sort of easiest, fastest way to regrind
phf: trinque: yeah, polarbeard_better_log_messages depends on a conflicting patchset
trinque: anyhow, looks like polarbeard_add_getpeerinfo_rpc.vpatch needs rebasing

polarbeard importprivkey
pete_dushenski: shinohai: and were you using
polarbeard patch for the privkey import ?
mircea_popescu: which is why one'd expect a lot more alma matering of stuff like
polarbeard's.
phf: asciilifeform: he's asking about SchemeHook from
polarbeard's patch
punkman: shiva for one, my patches,
polarbeard's patches
ben_vulpes:
polarbeard: i *will* however read through several hundred lines of deletion
punkman: there was
polarbeard's thing
