asciilifeform: the current rk gentoo is based on it
asciilifeform: * billymg (~billymg@161.0.121.194) has joined #trilema << oh hey welcome to rk, billymg
asciilifeform: if yer willing to carry suitcase, may as well get the chinese hdmi/vga boardlet and use with rk.

asciilifeform: there's 2 vacant rk boxes btw
phf: gut the x60 chassis, put rk in there, though you're still stuck with the screen
asciilifeform: phf: i drained the battery in ~2h on airplane (putting finishing touches on rk gentoo), then again in the rack (1st usa->orc mains plug brick fell apart) then again on roof...
asciilifeform: it was in fact supposed to go in the 1st , but ended up sadly left behind , rk plant ranked higher , and mass -- limited
lobbesbot: diana_coman: Sent 5 hours and 56 minutes ago: <asciilifeform> your rk is redisked! and running; you may want to stand up yer www server (iirc it doesn't run on boot)
asciilifeform: oh btw, lobbes & diana_coman , dun forget to set your rk's clocks.
a111: Logged on 2018-10-02 17:34 asciilifeform: lobbes: plox to confirm when satisfied that your rk worx correctly

asciilifeform: rk units A & C are ready forbiznis.
mircea_popescu: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-10-01#1856831 << this is a very solid point. add to it that cuntoo won't support gnome, and suddenly you see it : rk draws 15miliAmps, screen draws an average of i dunno, .6. suddenly a 5kAh battery lasts... 5k hours. ☝︎
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: drive for RK-A currently being written
asciilifeform: rk, in case anyone forgot, has 1 usb3 and usb2 holes.
mircea_popescu: "herro sir your package very much ready at rk haus in senegal!"
asciilifeform: because gotta get spare disks to rk plant soon.
asciilifeform: rk plant currently has 0 spare parts !!
mircea_popescu: mind giving it a seeing to ? it'll be a very useful heuristic, imo, "get rk drivers on 2.6 kernel"
mircea_popescu: i don't want losing rk, wut.
mircea_popescu: why would you have to lose rk ?
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: but i'm not particularly excited by idea of losing rk
asciilifeform: i wouldn't even object to cementing a 3.x, supposing i had a working one for rk
asciilifeform: 4.9.76 on dulap, and slightly earlier iirc in rk branch ( will have to maintain at least these 2 forks , i suspect )
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: there's some % who actually endrivered various new iron. e.g. dulap kernel built for arm64 won't actually boot on rk, needs the little bit of chinesium ( i have it laid out, fwiw , mostly, specifically for when we pour cement )
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: e.g. the chinese rk people
asciilifeform: ( i still have boxen with the old gnat, except for rk, where only ave1's gnat exists )

mod6: tested my fg on my rk, looks good
mircea_popescu: seems like an eminent use for rk plants, make a bunch of blog servlets. considering writes are rare and priviledged, perfect application.
asciilifeform: re sd card -- mircea_popescu may find it interesting that asciilifeform's initial (week before flight) rk test bed used a premium 'camera' 128G sd to boot ~and~ run from. but found that it is intolerably slow, the things have pretty sad randomaccess performance
mircea_popescu: what sense does that make, not like rk is high traffic. as compared to say a photocam
asciilifeform: recently i was going through by hand in list of what's in my rk gentoo, and holyfuq, 'root cert of greek gov' etc. disgraceful.
asciilifeform: ditto the rk

asciilifeform: !Q later tell diana_coman didja rebuild your rk kernel with no xhci ( usb3 ) ?
asciilifeform: the rk's are on own physical switch, so if one of them pulls the lan to ground, it will take out only rk cluster. but that's the only isolation available.
mircea_popescu: let me get this straight : if me and you have a rk, and you run your blog from there, and i overload your ip but only use port x which you do not use a) you'll never know and b) i have two ips now.
mircea_popescu: and of course this stands for whole space ? one could eg make foundation box inaccessible by renting rk ?

asciilifeform: the biggest headache is to get to where ~something~ gets shat forth from the rk uart.
asciilifeform: mod6: i tested you rk drive blockwise: it has no physical defects
lobbes: also, congrats on joining teh mp-wp-rk club
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: for rk , separate, and recently updated ( pending publication )
asciilifeform: diana_coman: fwiw it comes by default with all asciilifeform-prepared boxen nao, incl. all new rk customer.
asciilifeform: lobbes: rk has no battery in rtc, you gotta set its clock on boot, yes
asciilifeform: mod6: znc (or whatever else) on rk box is between user and his gods
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: plox cure lobbes's rk . but in the future, this will prolly have to cost something, as it uses hands.

asciilifeform: imho main weakness of my rk boards is lack of sata
ave1: the libre computer board is in the pizarro rk? it seems to be 80$ for 4G. This is the same price, for the rockpro64.
asciilifeform: ave1: this is a kind of 'plus' version of the pizarro rk, yes
asciilifeform: given as rk has no idea which dram a given board maker will want to use, they made the timings settable
