asciilifeform: i also built at various points on a heathen i7 (2.8G) and there runs ~2x faster across the board, ftr
diana_coman: that being said, I dug up and yes, I even have an i7 around here
asciilifeform: ( anyone have an 'i7' handy ? )
asciilifeform: on, e.g., 64bit 'i7', goes roughly 2x of this speed.
asciilifeform: i have a box with 2nd hole, but it's a modern i7 thing and ugh, and on top of this it weights like 4kg

mod6: this box does nothing else other than just test builds/dev for trb, and is currently idle. should be a decent test. albiet much slower than the metrics collected with alf's i7 box.

asciilifeform: i'ma put clim on that i7-7700K (released yesterday!) for lulz. betcha it's still dog-slow.
asciilifeform: while we're in cpuwank mode, 'The Intel Core i7-7700K is what happens when a chip company stops trying. The i7-7700K is the first desktop Intel chip in brave new post-"tick-tock" world—which means that instead of major improvements to architecture, process, and instructions per clock (IPC), we get slightly higher clock speeds and a way to decode DRM-laden 4K streaming video. Huzzah.'
mircea_popescu: i7 4870 was released mid 2014 ; the amd mid 2013 if memory serves.

DeCiB3l: Chaang well if you're a rich motherfucker than get an i7

kakobreklaa: just go with i7
Chaang-Noi: ill get an asus unltra book with an i7 and the awesome screen
BingoBoingo: The old 0.7.2+ would probably load fastest on an i7 because BDB doesn't parallelize well, 0.8.X and later on an AMD chip I imagine; an SSD makes a bigger bifference than any processor though
