billymg: hanbot: let me know if trying to press again with the patches from http://billymg.com/mp-wp-vtree/ doesn't work and i can look into it

hanbot: 1. if i try to press the current head of mp-wp (ie, including the patches, either as reconstructed from our blogs or as maintained on btcbase), it dies with a hash mismatch
billymg: hanbot: phf: the patches and sigs for the mirrored mp-wp tree can be found here http://billymg.com/mp-wp-vtree/
hanbot: phf mp-wp patchset looks good, tyvm.
phf: diana_coman: http://btcbase.org/patches?patchset=mp-wp i've added the two patches from billymg, please let me know if i'm missing anything
hanbot: billymg: these are the totality of your mp-wp patches, yes? http://billymg.com/2019/01/minor-mp-wp-patch-updates/ ; i don't recall anyone else having patches, please chime in if you do. meanwhile phf please add <--- to mp-wp tree, and i'ma solder these to the genesis after which danielpbarron i'd be happy to show you how to make a vpatch for your fix.
BingoBoingo: diana_coman: I'll have to dig. Qntra's not on mp-wp yet.
mircea_popescu: mp-wp is actually broken
mircea_popescu: how long ago was this install ? i mean, mp-wp hasn't been around long enough for you to have changed something by hand ~and forgot~, is it ?
mircea_popescu: diana_coman factually, it works on mine, and on all other mp-wp installs ~but yours~.
mircea_popescu: diana_coman this is truly all i head. are you using a mp-wp or own roll ?

billymg: to describe my overall thinking/strategy with mp-wp, i would like to 1) rip out everything not absolutely necessary for the basic functions of blogging/moderating 2) after arriving at the bare minimum, fit what's left in my head to then evaluate ways to simplify/improve/rewrite
mircea_popescu: nobody gives a shit about "ease of use" in that sense, only way to import into mp-wp is via flatfile anyway. so knock yourself out with all that.
billymg: for example, the "wysiwyg" editor, tinymce, that is packaged with wordpress. do any of the current mp-wp users use this? i personally edit in the raw-html input for posts
billymg: i was finally able to get back to some mp-wp work this weekend, with the focus of ripping out unnecessary LOC. after some time getting oriented again it took a few hours to remove ~5k lines just from some "google gears" thing and various "importers" for importing posts from other platforms
BingoBoingo: <Mocky> it goes well, getting my blog moved over to mp-wp. finding a 2.7 compatible theme << The default chops up rather nicely

mircea_popescu: actually, a completely curl-tomated mp-wp interaction thingee would be a great addition to mp-wp itself, imo.
mircea_popescu: though honestly, if i wanted to vim-face mp-wp, i'd put a vimterface on ~mysql~ directly, rather than the wp wrapper.
shinohai: I dunno if in logs, but I tried this with mp-wp couple years back and didn't get it working properly. https://github.com/dsawardekar/wordpress.vim
asciilifeform: mp-wp seems to work great , but asciilifeform hobbles when tryin' to modify it, php feels inescapably like cobol when i work with it

mircea_popescu: aaanyway, i dunno if specifically should or shouldn't be included in mp-wp, but it's certainly there published to be coopted if useful.
Mocky: BingoBoingo can you set me up with mp-wp in my wwwhabeeb directory on uy1 for mockyhabeeb.com? I want to see what migrating my blog will involve.
mircea_popescu: but i am discouraged by the result of the training exercise for this matter, where apparently in spite of attempts to standardize the infinitely more complex mp-wp, the result was similarly tower of bable.

mircea_popescu: nope. analoguous to "oh, this bureaucracy can't just put mp-wp on, gotta spend 5mns to pay some indian monkey $500 to wing an "in house" one overnight"
billymg: i think there also might be some opportunities to remove code from mp-wp. for example, the included tinymce browser text-editor plugin seems to come with three different themes. i haven't looked too closely but i'm guessing only one of them is actually used

billymg: diana_coman: my understanding was that as long as i created the vpatch with a keccak-compatible vdiff then the hashes would be consistent with genesis and it would be ok. this assumption came from me being able to press vtools and mp-wp with my current v.py (grabbed from the link in the trb setup guide)
bvt: i.e. in hanbot genesis, there is a/mp-wp/manifest, while in your vpatch a/manifest
bvt: billymg: it seems that you should move directory mp-wp into directories a, b, not rename them.
billymg: diana_coman: i loaded the necessary files into the patches/ .seals/ .wot directory structure and ran them through v.py (exact steps here: http://billymg.com/2018/10/the-complete-noobs-guide-to-setting-up-mp-wp-on-a-pizarro-rock-chip-server/)
diana_coman: billymg, sounds good; when you say genesis I assume you mean http://btcbase.org/patches/mp-wp_genesis ; correct?

billymg: hanbot: going by the vpatch i found here http://thewhet.net/2018/06/mp-wp-genesis-regrind/ or http://btcbase.org/data/mp-wp/ the file does seem to contain a few references to e.g. .jpg.svg, .png.svg
hanbot: billymg current mp-wp should absolutely not have any .jpg.svg flotsam; kubrickheader for instance is .svg

mircea_popescu: since we're on mp-wp woes : an hero to make mp-wp footnote system NEST would be appreciated. currently works only 1 level deep, maybe once each year or two gotta do lvl2 footnotes by hand.
BingoBoingo: Aite, mp-wp woes are looking manageable
BingoBoingo: I'm not sure I've used an mp-wp install with a functional image uploader yet.
BingoBoingo remembers something happening to tinymce down the line with hanbots patches to mp-wp will have to dig to see what happened. Neither of the editor tabs appear to be linked to anything in the mp-wp's I've pressed recently. They've just been html input/view boxes.
BingoBoingo listens puts press mp-wp again on the agenda
mircea_popescu: i suspect breakage somewhere along the way, because iirc hanbot 's mp-wp that i testrun at some point had these.
mircea_popescu: which is not even sane (seeing how if uncommented the server croaks) and anyway dysfunctional (really, mp-wp installation is vulnerable to cookie hijacking, you're supposed to lock down wp-admin by ip, especially if you're going to be clicking on random links).
mircea_popescu: this completely breaks it, at least as far as my workflow is concerned, because i never use anything besides 1 and you can't very practically get images in without 2. they're both core functionality of why i even bother with mp-wp in the first place, rather than some random other solution.
mircea_popescu: BingoBoingo wait, this ~doesn't~ come with preinstalled mp-wp ?
mircea_popescu: BingoBoingo can i get a shared hosting instance briefly spun up so i test drive it ? i have like a suspicion mp-wp is subtly broken in places, maybe, or something's afoot.
BingoBoingo: <mircea_popescu> well, whoopdeedoo... if instead of letting the ants eat your dumb asses you ate the ants, it'd be the other way. and until it isn't the other way, it'll keep being this way, grand discovery this. << This is. I'm setting up mp-wp for a lead danielpbarron directed to us.
mircea_popescu certainly not against having magic postgres ver+config tested out for mp-wp. never stumbled on the magic combo, but also never looked too hard. the hooks are in though, can be switched ~effortlessly.
mircea_popescu: leaving aside my observation of anyone else's experience -- the "here's mp-wp codebase" has not appreciably destroyed something as far as i can tell.
lobbesbot: BingoBoingo: Sent 15 hours and 40 minutes ago: <asciilifeform> iirc you were the one who set up nicoleci's mp-wp, plox to take look ?
mircea_popescu: psa : one point of mp-wp people might not be familiar with is the feed encoding. like here : http://bimbo.club/?feed=rss2 ; that leading "OTIxMjQ0NTYxMTJ8MTc5LjUwLjIyNi4xNjE=" encodes the ip of the caller. if you get your feeds republished (often done by spammers ), you de-base the string and can ban the scrapper by ip.
ben_vulpes: robo-production, or ripe for surfacing through mp-wp.
asciilifeform: !Q later tell BingoBoingo iirc you were the one who set up nicoleci's mp-wp, plox to take look ?
mircea_popescu: it should not be possible for a mp-wp correctly installed to display the (()) part
asciilifeform: mp-wp on shared machine is a per-user install, tho, so it is possible that somebody's is broken. that one seems to work tho
mircea_popescu: hey BingoBoingo, is the mp-wp on pizarro's shared server broken or what ? i don't understand how http://archive.is/Bihzo#selection-111.0-115.1 is possible otherwise ?
mircea_popescu: i suspect some work on trying mp-wp in a postgres environment would be quite beneficial at this juncture, even.
lobbes: danielpbarron: fwiw my pizarro rockchip has served me well thus far as a home for both auctionbot and for mp-wp. Hell, you could run a mirror for your church's www in the event it goes down AND host the poker bot
