Vexual: next halving maybe
Vexual: five figures or maore in usd at the biggest exchange by volume at next halving
mircea_popescu: i have no idea. perhap a coin without the reward halving would win out on that score.
gribble: Estimated time of bitcoin block reward halving: Mon Oct 3 17:58:21 2016 UTC | Time remaining: 2 years, 50 weeks, 4 days, 0 hours, 40 minutes, and 0 seconds.
ThickAsThieves: and halving after that
ThickAsThieves: if they do all this, and mine 49%, what about tha halving
ThickAsThieves: furuknap is still fighting the good fight of "the future halving changes everything now" on the forums
ThickAsThieves: and how will the halving affect this enterprise?
furuknap: Which is safe and fine, it's just a strategy of caution rather than risk. Great for investors looking for long-term profitability. Except for the halving effect, of course.
jurov: and it can happen this year, this being of bigger concern than halving
Namworld: Well honestly, I don't think the halving is what makes the biggest impact on this. The insanely high price of AM and lowering USD/BTC rate does.
jurov: yes. it knc and other can mass produce and ship, thus depressing hw prices overall, *after* that it will make sense projecting for halving
furuknap: In Febraury, we're just over 1.5 years away from halving.
furuknap: That is because of the halving effect; investments now have much shorter time before halving, so they can't be as high as they used to be.
jurov: building any projection mostly oin halving seems foolish to me
ThickAsThieves: and what if the halving causes increase in fiat value?
ozbot: What is the Halving Effect in Bitcoin Mining Investments? | Furuknap's Cryptocoin Blog
furuknap: http://coin.furuknap.net/what-is-the-halving-effect-in-bitcoin-mining-investments/
ThickAsThieves: what will the effect of the halving be in 3mos?
ThickAsThieves: no one is pricing the halving into anything right now, except you
jurov: furuknap, bunch of other asic companies likely shipping in next months have much bigger influence than some halving
ThickAsThieves: can you just never say halving effect again plz
furuknap: With the halving effect, AM is losing money for investors every week. With 30TH they wouldn't even beat NASDAQ composite.
furuknap: For your consideration: http://coin.furuknap.net/what-is-the-halving-effect-in-bitcoin-mining-investments/
ThickAsThieves: really though, the halving simply should not be factored into current investments
furuknap: If halving effect is 50% then each month, with a price of 3BTC/share, AM 'loses' 0.0340909BTC.
jcpham: block halving
jcpham: the next price halving is too far away for me to care about
furuknap: Yeah, but problem is that we don't know what happens to price when halving becomes more prevalent in mining discussions.
ThickAsThieves: per block after the next block halving, and more than 15BTC forever in the further future."
ThickAsThieves: "With respect to the mining business, we have never seen it as a drying up one in spite of persistent block halving. If Bitcoin ever rises as a successful currency in a few years, and the transaction fee has to be, say, 15BTC each block on average, to prevent attacks from organizations that are all over the world and begin show up when Bitcoin flourishes, what we could expect is 27.5BTC
ThickAsThieves: analysis that AM is overvalued because in a few years we don't know what the reward-halving will do
Neil: 3.0 yrs to next reward halving :)
jborkl: halving was in late November
jurov: i think it was after the halving
fiat500: what is AM doing halving their hashrate like that? if its intentional thats one thing - if its a hardware flaw thats a problem
furuknap: This is the halving effect I've been touting for the past few weeks in practice. We know that once a more powerful bond comes online, the less powerful bonds will drop in dividends. It's simple math, plus and minus. So why aren't anyone even noticing this?
furuknap: Of course, because the halving effect every week takes away 0.05 of dividends at ฿2.
furuknap: AM cannot grow much further in terms of revenue and dividends at these price points do not add up when you take halving effect into account.
furuknap: Chaang, at 2.0, the ROI is roughly 2% per year, taking the halving effect info account.
ThickAsThieves: furuk, you also presume that Friedcat is not planning for the halving
furuknap: Or rather, there are enough people that don't take the halving effect into account to ignore it :-)
furuknap: The higher the price, the higer the halving effect.
ThickAsThieves: you dont need to deduct halving
furuknap: But the stable income is not as high as people think it is. friedcat has said he expects 10% on average. That correlates to around 0.006 per week. From that, you need to deduct the halving effect, which is 0.005, yielding 0.001 in real ROI.
ThickAsThieves: you can't make assumptions about the climate at the time of the halving though
furuknap: Nope. I care for price only to the extent it affects cost of halving effect.
mircea_popescu: no mining asset halved during the reward halving
furuknap: It's really not that complicated. It makes a couple of assumptions. 1) With the current dividend level, AM will focus solely on churning out cash, not preparing for 2016 halving, and 2) in 2016 due to halving of revenue, share prices will halve too. If those assumptions are correct, you simply divide half the current share price over the number of weeks or months, subtract that from the dividend based on expected hashrate (whi
furuknap: I don't get that sarcasm. Do you not believe that halving will disrupt profitability of miners?
furuknap: Dividends don't amount to much if you account for the halving effect in 2016.
furuknap: I do actually believe in AM as a long-term prospect so that's why I try to get people aware of the dangers. I'd like to see AM at around 1.3 as that price with projected dividends would roughly defend a 15-20% yield until the 6.25 halving.
KRS1: halving
ThickAsThieves: end of the world = reward halving
kakobrekla: even with the block reward halving
kakobrekla: block halving bottom was 0.2 usd per 100mhash
OneMiner: pgp Yes, if hashrate always goes up then halving day will come sooner by a bit.
pgp: so, if we assume a constant increase in hash rate, then halving day, by definition will alway be something short of 4 years...
pgp: question about network difficulty... does it adjust to bring rate back to 1 block per 10 min on current hash rate, or does it try to compensate to bring overall hash rate from last halving day to 1 block evey 10 min?
BingoBongo: midnightmagic Win32 killed everything on Windows... Crosschatter happened before, some altcoin late last year did it (no halving fork) and had to be euthanized.
BingoBongo: mircea_popescu Not at all. Maybe tie the definitive switch to standards only to the next halving? God is gone so let's send things to committee.
mircea_popescu: people were trying to wait past the halving but not much past march, so... squeeze.
Bugpowder: reward halving
Namworld: You can see the drop after reward halving for december
iz: davout: these are rules like "block reward halving times" and such
mircea_popescu: now, once reward halving was pinned down, the smart bought. the stupid didn't buy, because they were mommentum trading and the mommentum wasn't moving.
gesell: mircea_popescu: is that a pattern you think would repeat in 4 years at the next halving?
mircea_popescu: gesell i guess what started things was the dwindling supply of bitcoins due to reward halving a month or so ago
mircea_popescu: sellers were like, fuck this with reward halving im not selling
mircea_popescu: i'd have expected some crazy swings with the halving
mircea_popescu: esp with the halving and all
EskimoBob: and after halving...
lyspooner: yes, that incremental blockheader is a very beautiful thing. although the block reward halving party wasn't as exciting as a new years countdown
jurov: well, i actually speculated on that halving will be non-event for xchange rate
mircea_popescu: no halving tremors or anything
