mod6: BingoBoingo: thank's for the
OpenBSD reminder about arc4random, a note about your blog though... you do say 7.x or 8 or w/e.. in v0.5.3/v0.5.3.1 the function that contains that part to change from rand() to arc4random() is called: CWallet::SelectCoinsMinConf
lobbes: I'll be ordering my 'training laptop' soon. My question is: Gentoo or
OpenBSD?
mod6: There's a lot of stuff on our "to-do" list, but it'd be nice to knock out some
OpenBSD support before we get into doing other heavy lifting.
mod6: but all of that is easy, i just need to dig in to figure out how to get the proper configure args for
openbsd -- iirc last time I tried, I tried to build a statically linked binary and then openssl compile failed. and I just got busy with the release so I havent gotten back to it yet.
freeborn: once ready, I am interested in working on a
openbsd live image that uses the reference bitcoind
mod6: <+thestringpuller> freeborn: I'm pretty sure mod6 has gotten it working on
OpenBSD. << Hi freeborn, yup,
OpenBSD is on def. at the top of our list of platforms to support. I made good progress on this in February, but got a little side-tracked in March with the release. Stay tuned to the mailing list (btc-dev), any advancements in this realm will be updated there.
thestringpuller: freeborn: I'm pretty sure mod6 has gotten it working on
OpenBSD.
freeborn: hi all, been following the bitcoin foundations work for a little while.. looks really cool! I have been giving it a shot trying to install on my
openbsd machine, I noticed in the release notes that BingoBoingo has provided soem insights for building on obsd, does anyone know if this is possible yet?
danielpbarron: pfsense is a freebsd user-friendlier interface for
OpenBSD's PF
ascii_field: but iirc the device support of
openbsd is a subset of netbsd's
danielpbarron: i got your netbsd kernel to boot on the pogo; this is possible with
openbsd as well?
danielpbarron: how hard would it be to get
OpenBSD on a pogo? I've been idling in their channel but I'm not sure how productive it would be to just go "hey someone should start supporting this architecture for my pet project!"
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: nubbins`: any changes -not- in common with
openbsd << For versions earlier than 5.7 and -current some wallet.cpp code needs changed to use better random
trinque: funkenstein_:
openbsd doesn't come from an app store
BingoBoingo: danielpbarron: Her big issue is supporting the cam tools. Ubuntu is probably going to be fine for the camera in general, Iffier for skype. Probably not possible for her to use all of the tools she could need for work on
OpenBSD/Gentoo without going through hell and rewriting some of them.
danielpbarron:
openbsd has an autoinstaller but might not do everything you'd like
danielpbarron: i guess before you do that, prepare a flash drive with an installer for
openbsd or gentoo or something
danielpbarron: i plan on using nothing but
OpenBSD whereever possible :p
danielpbarron: ftr I do not intend to acutally use apple software; i've been putting
OpenBSD on old iMacs
danielpbarron: and if you liked that paragraph i quoted there, it's from "Absolute
OpenBSD" by Michael W. Lucas
assbot: Absolute

danielpbarron:
OpenBSD still supports this for the purpose of finding bugs that would otherwise go unnoticed on modern speedy systems
danielpbarron: Security people are often the black-and-white kind of people that I can't stand. I think the
OpenBSD crowd is a bunch of masturbating monkeys, in that they make such a big deal about concentrating on security to the point where they pretty much admit that nothing else matters to them.
BingoBoingo: Luke-Jr: Well for
openbsd builds fired live the big change isn't db at all, but in wallet.cpp changing the random call to a better one (should not be necessary in -current or 5.7)
BingoBoingo: Some people had built 0.9.x -sh on
openbsd according to stories but no recipies were supplied
Luke-Jr: BingoBoingo: ah, hm. I wonder how easily just adding some
OpenBSD checks similar to the FreeBSD ones would go
BingoBoingo: Luke-Jr:
OpenBSD. I had the choice of debugging a bunch of wank or reverting to 0.7.2 and hand patching.
assbot: Logged on 19-03-2015 14:29:09; funkenstein_: is
openbsd the only reason to have an optical drive?
assbot: Logged on 19-03-2015 14:20:01; danielpbarron: today i learned that

OpenBSD?

☟︎ BingoBoingo: When it comes to adopting pieces of various BSD's though enumeration gets really messy. OSuX brings in a lot of FreeBSD stuff. Google Android uses
OpenBSD's libc with a special compile flag google requested.
BingoBoingo: ;;later tell danielpbarron Remember if you read that archive that Until Theo forked
OpenBSD into being that public CVS read access wasn't a thing anywhere yet. 1994 was a helluva year
BingoBoingo: danielpbarron: Well, if you manage to install
OpenBSD it's basically closer to a normal
OpenBSD environment than the pogo is.
danielpbarron: right now i'm gonna try to install
openbsd 5.6 on an imac g4 via network
danielpbarron: oh idk, i copy pasted that from an
OpenBSD README file
danielpbarron: yeah and it's also against the law for me to take my

danielpbarron: why can't i see these extra characters; vi on
openbsd would show them
BingoBoingo: Amazingly sbcl, no problem on
OpenBSD. Any Ada at all, huge fucking pain.
BingoBoingo confesses running to
OpenBSD instead of Gentoo not because of knowledge, but from a lack of knowledge. Still determine personal minimal set of installed software. No confident enough to make best choices on a whole workstation (as opposed to appliance) stack.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Dragonfly ports are mostly loose FreeBSD ports with little guarentee of working. There are older Ada and the visual Ada IDE ports for
OpenBSD, but... it seems fuckers would on the whole rather test "go"
BingoBoingo: <asciilifeform> decimation: but in this case the package manager is not at fault. someone deliberately sabotaged a library. << So on
OpenBSD I'm nt finding an Ada port or package that works with sufficient frequency to make it too the tree. Looking like the turdswitch may have been flipped in GCC
