Mocky: how goes ch 15 asciilifeform ?
Mocky: good morning
Mocky: so long as it doesn't have cancel button
Mocky: electric, what, to pull itself out of your pocket?
Mocky: mornin'
Mocky: I had the most vivid dream last night that I met mp and hanbot. I shook mp's hand and then I turned and shook hanbot's hand and when I turned back mp was gone but left me a note with his signature and "kek" then I turned and habot was gone too
Mocky: was hoping to see a russian d00d shoot at them from a window, but no, instead the raccoons went down to the creek after dinner to wash their paws
Mocky: to bring it full circle, I saw one of my grandsons yesterday watching a cartoon about how helpful raccoons are for eating trash so less waste goes to the land fill, and how clean and friendly they are ☟︎
Mocky: and number 11 is in the oven
Mocky: I just hit double digit grand kids
Mocky: unrelatedly, it's strange time distortion to be a newb and compress the reading of back #trilema & #ba logs into 8 months and then see http://btcbase.org/log/2019-01-03#1884140 and realize the fella (and plenty others fresh in the mind) hasn't even spoken here for a year ☝︎
Mocky: are you an advocate on behalf of the billions?
Mocky: more like the tsa luggage locks
Mocky: also re bot, I do see the underlying problem that is revealed when someone says "oh hey, never thought of..."
Mocky: unfortunately my cpp skills are not there yet
Mocky: yes, a more resilient design is much needed for the bot. it also needs to get out from under the thumb of the ps event/thread model so that adding capabilities doesn't require crimes-against-humanity levels of extra code in order to approach resilience
Mocky: oh hey, never thought about multiple skill dings, I'll note
Mocky: thx asciilifeform
Mocky: i've just started looking in charlotte recently lobbes. Other than passing on your resume if you're deemed worth, not sure a recruiter ever does anything on behalf of the the candidate ☟︎
Mocky: the resume gets me interviews. if I wasn't getting interviews I'd worry more about the resume.
Mocky: nicoleci, thx. I get good interest from the resume so I can't blame that. Just gotta keep with the crank winding.
Mocky: I might as fucking well
Mocky: mircea_popescu, maybe it will in the morning. I need some sleep
Mocky: I added it to my list hanbot. technically all my time is free time now, but it tastes like shit
Mocky: I think my employability is pretty close to epsilon. I may end up removing asbestos for 18 bucks an hour. This is going to be a setback. ☟︎
Mocky: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-12-19#1881740 speaking of summaries, this summarizes my entire experience here ☝︎☟︎
Mocky: i have an interview over video momentarily
Mocky: comfort with ambiguity
Mocky: that's all i got
Mocky: fuck you mircea_popescu !
Mocky: just read the summary, got a chuckle. 'tis tru!
Mocky: lol no
Mocky: thx asciilifeform
Mocky: either that or "catalyzing an interconnected global tech ecosystem" lol
Mocky: subj company apparently has quite healthy growth rate. my guess is they are trying to undercut the bottom tier 'coder' segment
Mocky: in other 1024 chickens, http://archive.is/d8ypc#selection-445.0-577.9 "High-performing distributed engineering teams with African talent"
Mocky: it smarts
Mocky: thx asciilifeform
Mocky: i've thought about brushing up on my ebonics to troll some interviews. show up in brand new nike airs and NBA jersey, use gangster analogies for everything while talking computer science like everybody knows that shit
Mocky: for bonus points, train a black chix to be specialist job applier
Mocky: plus many adverise remote to begin with
Mocky: tru, but once they want you, some will allow remote. They've got to fill those recs by the end of the quarter!
Mocky: i'm past most of my frustration with it now, noticing their weaknesses. if you can code A* on a white board in 10 minutes with no errors while talking intelligently about their beloved frameworks, then not hiring you would be a struggle
Mocky: anyway, I don't think specialist job applier is all that hard to do. tech companies are ripe for being gamed
Mocky: advice wise, i'm happy to accept help. action wise, I'll take the action
Mocky: doesn't appeal
Mocky: not looking for help to solve my own problems. I'll solve and then contribute solutions to other problems
Mocky: nothing personal!
Mocky: hell no
Mocky: when I look deeply enough into my pockets I see hunger about 6 weeks away, and my phone getting shut off and so I look for the closest solution at hand
Mocky: no mr. recruiter I don't have experience with Docker, as fun as that sounds
Mocky: brb, recruiter call! pfft
Mocky: but i'm totally down to give it a try (after employed). it's gonna be hoot!
Mocky: my concern is that often it takes me a year to build an accurate enough mental model to be able to solve problem which prompted the lamp rubbing in a reasonable time
Mocky: in the past I've given serious consideration to arbitraging out my own secular tasks to indians or whathaveyou
Mocky: relatedly, i haven't even applied to remote jobs yet. hand cranking through local options still ☟︎
Mocky: why, cuz so many extra hands?
Mocky: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-12-12#1879959 painfully slow from my pov, got three phone interviews coming up but not on the calendar yet cuz peeps taking time off. a bunch more that I'm waiting to hear about. ☝︎
Mocky: thx asciilifeform
Mocky: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-12-11#1879752 Just bill me for my hosting, one year plz ☝︎
Mocky: good morning mircea_popescu
Mocky: hell no, 25yo boy has a donkey in his head that won't stop kicking
Mocky: enjoy it, 35 is a man's prime. I ought to know, I'm in my second decade of being 35!
Mocky: happy birthday!
Mocky: also i still need to finish baking these last 7 Qatar blog posts I wrote up
Mocky: damn, 3 days actually. I think I lost a day somewhere
Mocky: I feel lost tho, 2 days behind in the logs, no idea what's going on :D
Mocky: Expecting to get phone interviews with labcorp and lexis nexis scheduled soon, along with a bunch of unknowns
Mocky: It's coming along, I'm toughening up. I have a couple dozen new recruiter emails this morning and I only want vodka before I start answering and not hollow point so progress!
Mocky: thx asciilifeform
Mocky: ah, dunno
Mocky: asciilifeform, listed as note in https://btc.com/61fea39f4f22e3190fc48c24047c9e52a7a37e2f2d03c242eed016921830e044
Mocky: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-11-30#1876406 I won't get a chance to look at this until signed up with new daily bread overlord ☝︎☟︎
Mocky: "The other address has one notable transaction which is sent from 1JEWSxAgGhSFuNPHUAr13zftNLjYt5wZaS and 1MoSSaDDSStrRo53YjPaGcXiABAXfYuvEL. A dust transaction, it was confirmed in block 551895."
Mocky: The U.S. government cannot ban Bitcoin addresses" http://archive.is/jwoB9#selection-1777.0-1793.48
Mocky: "Still, a total of 6-7 transactions had been sent to the addresses by time of writing, some with intriguing transaction details. For instance, this transaction has an embedded message:
Mocky: is it just me or does that look like baltimore?
Mocky: I got my first "so burned i'm peeling" in 2018, 3 hours on motorcycle in tank top mid day, late june.
Mocky: as long as I still had kids at home, never tried to get out
Mocky: i can't even complain, i ended up with exactly what I wanted as a 20yo, "write software, have a lot of kids"
Mocky: in truth i do feel like idjit for being old man without the brains to have saved anything. i don't even have a workshop full of shit like asciilifeform ☟︎☟︎☟︎
Mocky: I interviewed with a job once that offered "unlimited paid time off" but inside reports were that anyone who tried to use was instantly on the shit list
Mocky: haven't seen it with my own eyes, even then
Mocky: reminds me of "20% time", "work on your own projects on friday since we know you'll be doing that anyway"
Mocky: lol
Mocky: the only activity in life that makes me understand why people turn to the bottle
Mocky: i'm convinced this whole ecosystem of outside recruiters is 100% byproduct of startup "investing" that props up the illusion of "high growth" companies that burn thru cash by hiring people so they will qualify for more money ☟︎
Mocky: this is why i worked for the same company for 14 years, i hate this shit. but also what made me soft target for their betrayal ☟︎
Mocky: so many damn recruiters. they're like mosquitos in a swamp. they all want to 'have a call' and then 'a skype' 'see if you'll be a good fit'. ugh. two years out of college with a degree in hr, you're gonna decide if i'm worthy to be submitted for a job, and then pressure me to take low ball offer. ☟︎
Mocky: "74 applicants last week" heh
Mocky: looks like Roger Ver's bitcoin.com is looking for java and js developers for their mining team http://archive.is/MlomS ☟︎
Mocky: "must be open sores contributor, love python 3" what's next? "line cook, must love toasters with cancel buttons" ☟︎
Mocky: blockchain engineer is a job title now?
Mocky: these jobs requiring 'clearanced' is actually quite handy, easy filter criteria ☟︎
Mocky: cisco's hiring 2 miles down the road, "Colorful hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That’s cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Be you, with us! #WeAreCisco #GIS #SDx" good luck with that, lol
Mocky: so many of the jobs out there want secret government clearance now, jeez. who do they think they are kidding with their super secret shit ☟︎
Mocky: np
Mocky: mircea_popescu, BingoBoingo re wires #1 and #2 that I sent: #1 came back 'cancelled' after 3 days, #2 went to 'completed' after 1 day. I retried #1 (less 1 dollar) and it now is 'completed' after 1 day. BingoBoingo can you verify if actually arrived at bank?
Mocky: thx!
