asciilifeform: burned, done.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform for all the psycho-pomp, the whole thing reads to me rather infantile altogether. dumbass needed to crash, ended up crashing at apartment of derpy local chav and his whorish mahalagioaica.
asciilifeform: his particular stated ambition is worth commenting on, also
mircea_popescu: what, build eternal life spacesheep ?
asciilifeform: y wants to form an all-powerful usg-like stooge force to get between anyone who might be crafting 'rogue ai' (ai not designed by y and sycophants) and their work
asciilifeform: sorta like what existing usg tries to do with nukes
asciilifeform: or at the very least it is his official thing.
mircea_popescu: lol mkay.
mircea_popescu: weren't we making "rogue ai" ?
asciilifeform: https://intelligence.org << he renamed it. again.
asciilifeform: it is an Official usg thinktank now!111111
asciilifeform: with 'fellows'
asciilifeform: and 'papers'
mircea_popescu: pity it has no dao.
asciilifeform: https://intelligence.org/transparency << cutting straight to the (claimed) chase.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform seems dead ?
asciilifeform: loads here.
asciilifeform: https://archive.is/M1Ldm
mircea_popescu: yes yes but ... strategic plan 1 year (2 installments) out of date ; "in review" idem
asciilifeform: https://intelligence.org/topdonors
mircea_popescu: ahahahaha jed mccalleb donated OVER 350k ?
mircea_popescu: gtfo.
asciilifeform: why should he publish financials, the idiots already coughed up the moolah!111
mircea_popescu: the guy never had that much together.
asciilifeform: who the fuck even was that
mircea_popescu: old time bitcoin scammer ; kicked out around the time of the great mp scammer purge of 2013
mircea_popescu: moved on to altcoin bullshit.
asciilifeform: wasn't he the fella who robbed mtgox ?
mircea_popescu: the finances of mtgox are unclear.
asciilifeform: 'Jed McCaleb $631,137' << from the 'top donor' pg.
asciilifeform: perhaps fella by same name.
asciilifeform: i have nfi.
mircea_popescu: i doubt it, seeing how they actually credit him for ripple.
mircea_popescu: anyway : the numbers don't match ; total assets in 2014 ~2mn.
asciilifeform: one, the other, both, neither, could be a fiction, i have nfi.
mircea_popescu: anyway, the list as publishes sums to a suspiciously round 6,008,809. the assets claimed are ~30% that.
mircea_popescu: bullshit through and through, i have no idea how they even summon the gall to publish this unauditable nonsense.
mircea_popescu: vessenes & merck level "bitcoin foundation" sort of fraud.
asciilifeform: had links to something claiming to be detailed audit dumps but i can't be arsed.
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: it is not a mystery that y's thing is a kind of phoundation
deedbot: [Qntra] US Newspapers Band Together In Defense Of Malware - http://qntra.net/2016/06/us-newspapers-band-together-in-defense-of-malware/
mircea_popescu: i have the "independent accountant review" right here.
asciilifeform: 'Ad-blockers undermine the ability of publishers to continue to provide free or reduced-pricecontent on the Internet because they undercut publishers’ ability to finance enterprisejournalism, and they threaten the livelihood of journalists and other content creators. These free-riding technologies are a clear and present danger to an ecosystem that hascreated a vibrant, content-filled Internet for the American public.' << gold
mircea_popescu: it was prepared by some obscure los gatos ca house (snow, bittleston &co) and is every bit as ridiculous as the rest.
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: so why do you suppose they bothered ?
mircea_popescu: anyway, in summary : 885k in bank ; 14k in something called "cyro currency" as an "investment", 50k in prepaid expenses and 307k receivables. not clear whom from, but anyway.
asciilifeform: and iirc phoundation didn't even have a shill audit so this'd be classier, neh ?
mircea_popescu: 10k worth of furniture and 6k worth of "computer equipment"
mircea_popescu: oh and 8.6k worth of wells fargo credit card debt. lollercopter.
asciilifeform: waaat
mircea_popescu: we now have a precise sum of yudkowsky's total interest in this venture.
mircea_popescu: he got ~8664 worth of groceries.
asciilifeform: iirc prior to deal with the devil fella was worth ~0
asciilifeform: he was booted out of school for insanity
mircea_popescu: o look at that, "salaries" 258k ; payroll tax and employee benefits 22k.
asciilifeform: and afaik neither worked nor mircea_popescud.
asciilifeform: sounds like they employ 2-3 people.
mircea_popescu: at 31 dec 2014 realized loss from ripples an' bitcoins of 138.5k ; unrealized loss of 17.3k
asciilifeform: at starvation wage.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform nah, they employ one catamite. the lack of payroll tax is a dead giveaway.
mircea_popescu: that catamite pointedly isn't yudk derp.
asciilifeform: conceivably he is paid under the table ?
asciilifeform: i mean, if whole statement is a fiction.
mircea_popescu: not under table again. 8664, i'm telling you.
asciilifeform: incidentally in usa if someone is employed as 'contractor' there is no payroll tax reflected in corp statement.
asciilifeform: the victi^H^H^H^H^Hcontractor is required to pay tax manually.
mircea_popescu: right.
asciilifeform: sooo he's paid california-style. given corp cc and off he goes.
mircea_popescu: more like pedowales style.
asciilifeform: iirc even steve jobs was paid this way.
mircea_popescu: "all frustrated at the heads using him for a sockpuppet, runs off with corp cc, is then forced to give it back"
asciilifeform: incidentally -$8k of cc doesn't conclusively prove this scheme, it is common for us corp to pump purchases through a cc for bureaucratic reasons
asciilifeform: and for it to be in the - at time of audit.
mircea_popescu: just my old vp intuition.
mircea_popescu: i spent a lot of my life going through exactly this sort of bs.
mircea_popescu: fin vp*
asciilifeform: small corp in usa almost always has a cc, for roughly same reason as humans do, it can dispute charges stemming from cc scamz, pay vendors which won't take american cheques, etc.
asciilifeform: and i find it mind-boggling that thiel would choose to pay him this way, vs hiring him as 'consultant' or fuck, gardener, or whatnot, and just handing him bags of money
mircea_popescu: atm looks a lot more like someone in tax shelters is using this to hide from a few mn worth of tax liability ; than thiel or anyone else wanting to give yudks as much as a half smoked marlboro.
asciilifeform: how does that work ?
mircea_popescu: you ever seen "the strawberry blonde" ? 1930s film with cagney, de havilland and a still starlet rita hayworth.
asciilifeform: thiel puts $sum in phoundation; then gets it back out? how ?
asciilifeform: nope?
mircea_popescu: not a bad film ; cagney's a dope, friend of his offers him a position in management for a company where all he does is read the nespapers.
mircea_popescu: eventually govt deal obtained through tammany hall collapses an' he goes to jail.
asciilifeform: sorta like,
asciilifeform: 'You know how mentally limited people who agree to work for vague international companies doing the "clerical work" of cashing checks end up with a visit from the police ? ' ( http://trilema.com/2015/thattommyhall-that-kickstarter-scamsite-this-internet-life/#selection-125.2-125.173 )
mircea_popescu: sorta like.
asciilifeform: but that part i can see how it works (mule sends the money on).
asciilifeform: but how here ?
mircea_popescu: except hey, for as long as thiel's connected, who's gonna rustle his clientelle.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform here mule claims to have received donations that never showed up. win-win as they say.
asciilifeform: not only is this logical,
mircea_popescu: the "assets match ~30% of theoretical income" is a major flag ; the periodic name changes a slightly less major flag.
asciilifeform: but i suspect that ~all american 'nonprofits' operate some variant of this chumpatron.
mircea_popescu: there's more. in any case - let it be said faux charities are today as were a century ago the principal tax fraud mechanism.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform bout two thirds.
asciilifeform: hey, since when even, children's crusade.
mircea_popescu: anyway, it's a major factor in the "i can't explain why the fuck this guy went all usgtronic".
mircea_popescu: well... odds are he's a principal in a charity somewhere that cooked the books. "seemed the right thing to do" "i just took people's word" "i just wanted to" etc.

mircea_popescu: BingoBoingo double whether
BingoBoingo: ty, fixed
BingoBoingo: and if Trump-Clinton can do it so can Le Pen
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform laughably, idiot imagines bitcoin as part of "online payment" and opposes it because "it hinders individual property on money".
mircea_popescu: total fucking shitshow.
asciilifeform: hey and idiot imagines that camera steals souls
asciilifeform: and that steam train will move a man too quickly for him to breathe, etc.
asciilifeform: but the 'bitcoin == scam' isn't even wholly unreasonable for aboriginal whose entire experience of 'electronic money' has been chumpatronic

mircea_popescu: it is wholly unreasonable to discuss things you don't understand ; it is disqualifying to not understand certain things.
