mod6: each time it's crashed, there hasn't been anything too telling in the logs. i'll post my log, and the charts along with the raw nmon metrics collection.
mod6: i did check as recently as yesterday and it was fully sync'd.
mod6: finally died, was started on the 1st of november. left me with a 73Mb nmon file.
mod6: so my compiled version of TEST2 (running on a m3.medium instance) died again, finally. i saw it die twice within about 15 days of eachother in october. so this time I ran nmon the entire time.
mod6: if we did, i guess we'd have to rewrite the build script for buildroot.
mod6: Seems to work. Next step will probably be to sign & host SSL/BDB/Boost - but what about buildroot & all of it's deps? those too?
mod6: anyway, i think the real thing I was getting at there as sort of an alternative host incase of necessary reboot or maint to the other host.
mod6: time doesn't matter, its the precedence. right?
mod6: at some point when the bitcoin isp is up and going and the foundation can afford it or the resources donated, we'll make the switch, happily.
mod6: with that in mind, going forward maybe something needs to be figured out with some redundancy for V's mirror.
☟︎☟︎ mod6: for the money, i don't think its a big deal. one year of uptime, no problems, it's just a website.
mod6: asciilifeform: something to the effect of ``update to network''. no idea.
mod6: Thanks for your patience.
mod6: Alright, stand by. Rebooting.
mod6: 5 minutes until reboot.
mod6: shinohai: we recieved an email that said if we do not reboot box in the next 24 hours, they will do it for us.
☟︎☟︎ mod6: will be doing this shortly; outage shouldn't be long. will start this process in 27 minutes.
mod6: 12:43AM up 315 days << the foundation site has been up for nearly a year. we've been told it requires a reboot.
☟︎ mod6: <+mircea_popescu> the way it's going now we have software written by lumberjacks and trees planted by pencilnecks. << hahaha
mod6: whaack: as far as programming help, probably the best place to start is to read all of the current vpatches and understand the changes, and be able to build the R.I. up through the latest.
mod6: whaack: hi, yeah thanks for asking. 'v.pl' could certainly use some testing help. additionally, when I get my rotor+v script finished (hopefully soon), will have that to test as well.
mod6: ben_vulpes will now refer to this corner of the us as "the tonsils" << haha.
mod6: However, the head proved an irresistible target for students, especially from King's College London, who stole the head in 1975 and demanded a ransom of £100 to be paid to the charity Shelter. UCL finally agreed to pay a ransom of £10 and the head was returned. "
mod6: maybe it was the charter
mod6: might be worth a look to see what's what there.
mod6: yeah, i don't recall. i had thought that maybe that deed was intended to point at the treasurers doc since it has the foundation donation address in there.
mod6: eh, i think that was supposed to point at the treasurers document
mod6: shinohai: nothing intentional really
mod6: thanks asciilifeform
mod6: yup, happy TMSR day all.
mod6: Very minor changes were made to the cucumber tests, never-the-less, here's the update there:
mod6: New version of V, 99998 K has been posted. Details of changes are outlined in the email. Version 99999 K has been pulled from thebitcoin.foundation mirror, and version 99998 K is now available.
mod6: haha, i just fixed a bug in the old perl 5.005_04 makedepend.SH script.
mod6: *anniversary too :]
mod6: Today is the one year anneversary of the Bitcoin Declaration of Sovereignty. Happy Independence Day!
mod6: ben_vulpes: indeed.
mod6: I'll try to chat you up later tonight.
mod6: shinohai: thanks for doing all that testing on V. looks like I might need another round yet before tomorrow.
mod6: ok everything passed. I'm glad I wrote all of those. makes regression testing on core functionality like this so much easier.
mod6: running automated tests...
mod6: ok, last place of 'each' removed -- only one more line of code required there.
mod6: anyway, will update later when I get a chance. thx!
mod6: and get away from 'each'.
mod6: mircea_popescu: yeah, perl v5.005 or whatever has been in use since 98, lot of systems have from that version forward. would be good to support older versions.
mod6: i've got one more spot in the code to change out 'each'
mod6: it's only 2 more lines of code really. so it's not a bad solution, and this affords me not to have to require perl 5.12 or greater.
mod6: i've re-written the traversals of the map for ante & desc and my new changes passed the automated tests.
mod6: so apparently the 'each' keyword is pretty much to be avoided like the plague.
mod6: The release email will outline the changes.
mod6: thanks asciilifeform. forgot to mention that the new tmp gnupg dir is working well also.
mod6: still on track to sign and release v99998 this weekend.
mod6: new code changes seem to be working good with manual testing; tested a bunch of different scenarios including if one does not have Graph::Easy installed, or if one has a version of perl less than 5.12. Working good there. all automated tests are passing.
mod6: because the 'each' keyword isn't supported.
mod6: This version will also have the change where Graph::Easy is not required unless you invoke v with the `g' or `graph' command
mod6: in the process of testing that change as well as the change for the temporary gpg directory.
mod6: asciilifeform & all, I've added one more change to V for the forthcoming version of 99998: People have been letting me know that if their system us using a version of perl less than 5.12 that it's been causing problems. So i've added a statement that requires a minimum of 5.12.
mod6: i wanna say it was phf's patches from back in July.
mod6: <+shinohai> mod6: have you had any sucess with bsd yet ? << yeah, OpenBSD, achieved a full sync a few months back. had to patch it by hand.
mod6: awesome, let us know how she goes.
mod6: mircea_popescu: haha
mod6: "Welcome to the bakery, we've got cakes and pies..."
mod6: speaking of which, Axl Rose looks really bad too. haha
mod6: yeah. steven tyler did not age well. i saw a picture of him and he looks like a chinese woman
mod6: yah, usually it's a big early career, and then a slow decline. he just kept making great, if not even better, music.
mod6: very much so. only framed picture I've got is of Johnny Cash.
mod6: they're called "noodlers" right BingoBoingo?
mod6: yeah! never had to ask my folks for a nickle after I was 10.
mod6: probably gave that up when I was about 13 though.
mod6: always was a way to make money.
mod6: When I wasn't cutting down trees, I would blow up an air matress and float down this creek that ran through a private golf course. Where I would fish the golf balls out of the creek, shine 'em up and sell 'em back to the guys who just hit 'em in there for like $0.25 per ball.
mod6: Only thing I really regret about it is not wearing ear protection back then.
mod6: Yep. My good buddy's dad has a tree care company. My old man set me up with a job working with them when I was like 10, big enough to haul sticks and roll logs.
mod6: And sure, I liked cutting down trees, good exercise, decent guys to work with, but fuck, that shit wears on you.
mod6: So, I'd hate to do webdevelopment or whatever, but it sure beats humping logs all day.
