gabriel_laddel: yes.
gabriel_laddel: speaking of infrastructure, and the lack of it, one of you who isn't doing anything useful (eg, pete) should come out to CA and give me some boxes to work with.
gabriel_laddel: this whole place needs to die.
gabriel_laddel: mircea_popescu: yeah.
gabriel_laddel: for some reason they can't comprehend things unless it comes on top of js/shopify/something familiar
gabriel_laddel: here is the link, but give me cash
gabriel_laddel: that is EXACTLY what I do
gabriel_laddel: ty.
gabriel_laddel: the lisp environment runs parenscript, so you can sorta-kinda drive it with CL.
gabriel_laddel: Framedragger: and it is integrated into the lisp environment via a socket connection.
gabriel_laddel: Framedragger: The browser, conkeror has all the same keybindings as emacs.
gabriel_laddel: mircea_popescu: no passport, but that sounds like a plan.
gabriel_laddel: (at friends apartments etc)
gabriel_laddel: the new comcast boxes are shit and I can't even connect to them from linux whatsoever.
gabriel_laddel: it is the only place I have quality internet.
gabriel_laddel: stanford remotely reset the computer I was using..
gabriel_laddel: still less then 10 out the door, but nevertheless.
gabriel_laddel: lol, I'm selling them as we speak. It works.
gabriel_laddel: I'm making ~300 per sale. ~300 for hardware, ~300 for install.
gabriel_laddel: used.
gabriel_laddel: the shopify thing is just so I have something to point confused sillycon valley people to.
gabriel_laddel: not until my life is less shit.
gabriel_laddel: I may have to cancel your order because I cannot ship to Ar, but nevertheless.
gabriel_laddel: password is klello
gabriel_laddel: masamune-machines.myshopify.com ☟︎
gabriel_laddel: mircea_popescu: correct.
gabriel_laddel: anyways, no they can't use snapchat, whatsapp or any mobile applications, but yes, they can youtube, gmail, and all web stuff. There is an xterm available via the splash screen for those who need it.
gabriel_laddel: mircea_popescu: We're talking about masamune I presume (which sure, isn't really separable from CLIM)?
gabriel_laddel: Rather than debating the fine points of gossipd, just implemented it and move on.
gabriel_laddel: anyways, the point of this scheme is that it can be implemented in all of a week for someone who has some spare compute sitting around (ie, not me right now)
gabriel_laddel: oh, then yeah, sure.
gabriel_laddel: mircea_popescu: why hos specifically?
gabriel_laddel: strings
gabriel_laddel: characters
gabriel_laddel: asciilifeform: yep.
gabriel_laddel: trinque: but the point is, swapping whatever backend out is easy. If you want sockets, fine, just switch. It isn't like programming CLIM is difficult.
gabriel_laddel: trinque: because I've had issues with sockets in lisp every single time I've used them, whereas irc works fine every time.
gabriel_laddel: correct.
gabriel_laddel: yep.
gabriel_laddel: ascii confessed to having a 90% complete version months ago.
gabriel_laddel: ^ exactly. then we just wait for someone to get annoyed enough with the backend that they swap it out with gossipd.
gabriel_laddel: IRC has some limits on sending files and whatnot, so well-formed sexprs will be used to name FTP servers which you can download files and such from.
gabriel_laddel: The way this will work: an invite-only IRC channel with a +v voice model is used to send s-expression strings between networked CLIM applications.
gabriel_laddel: An existing CLIM application, BEIRC works with IRC just fine.
gabriel_laddel: The web is nothing more than networked graphics. CLIM supplies graphics, but no networking.
gabriel_laddel: details re tsmr web in a second..
gabriel_laddel: ^ patch the lastest CL-FTP with that ftp.lisp and it'll work
gabriel_laddel: http://paste.lisp.org/display/331860
gabriel_laddel: http://imgur.com/a/TrbQu
gabriel_laddel: tsmr~ web can now be a thing: I fixed CL-FTP
gabriel_laddel: Noted. When I get a chance I will look into V. This means _after_ the world replication works. Which, for whatever reason, produces a linux kernel that kernel panics on startup.
gabriel_laddel: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-10-31#1560799 < the only way to distribute CLIM using CL codebases IMHO is as a "world" that is a livecd + the ability to install itself on another x86_64 machine, with all the sources. ☝︎
gabriel_laddel: it is buttery smooth.
gabriel_laddel: have you seen the *new* *improved* defsystem layout yet?
gabriel_laddel: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-10-31#1560792 < ben_vulpes sorry what? I didn't post that in here because it was strictly for defunding the McCLIM idiots. ☝︎
gabriel_laddel: e in the interim.
gabriel_laddel: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-10-31#1560716 < it may be that CLIM itself sucks -- but the implementation is 100% common lisp and is easy enough to mechanically alter if you have problems with it. Should tmsr~ decide to strip whatever features from CLIM and alter the spec, at least we have a codebase and spec to argue about and something working to us ☝︎☟︎☟︎
gabriel_laddel: Since then all he has done is play around with fonts to try and make them "cross platform" or something.
gabriel_laddel: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-10-31#1560440 < 2.5k usd. Per month, until I bitched about it and it was knocked down to $600/mo - anyways, it isn't about the money, it's about him doing absolutely nothing with it and making a mess that someone will have to clean up. ☝︎☟︎
gabriel_laddel: Yep.
gabriel_laddel: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-10-31#1560441 < no mega-profits yet. Ramen profitable. ☝︎
gabriel_laddel: phf: you can do whatever. It will be free for in-wot people and I encourage you all to turn it into money.
gabriel_laddel: The inspector needs to have Isearch across all inspected objects, the graph walking facility needs to be integrated into the GUI..
gabriel_laddel: trinque: I'm working on completing the whole CLIM environment, but am not there yet. Still have to tie all the new logic for reflective search for generic functions specialized on arbitrary types, lambda lists of length, and return values of type to the navigator.
gabriel_laddel: translates js to parenscript and parenscript to js, integrated with the conkeror web browser (has same keybindings as emacs)
gabriel_laddel: trinque: as for what is included: McCLIM integrated with: macsyma, femlisp, MJRCALC, a manual, nope.js and more-or-less broken prototypes of everything else on the splash screen screenshot.
gabriel_laddel: I've been charging $200 on top of the price of hardware, but as of today (and an extended navigator that indexes all symbols and their types) - 300 ☟︎
gabriel_laddel: When my life is less shit I'll be setting up a method by which in-WOT people can get it for free. You all, of course, will be able to sell the same product I am. ☟︎
gabriel_laddel: trinque: I'm just selling them by hand at the moment in the bay area (going to google for a scheme meetup to hawk product here in ~.5 hrs) ☟︎
gabriel_laddel: phf: Right.
gabriel_laddel: http://web.archive.org/web/20160604000657/http://gabriel-laddel.github.io/arsttep.html
gabriel_laddel: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-10-31#1560469 < would you mind reviewing arsttep? I'm shipping it with each machine as part of the manual and would like for others to be able to understand it. ☝︎☟︎
gabriel_laddel: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-10-31#1560452 < correct. ☝︎
gabriel_laddel: phf: I have. It is called masamune, and you buy a discrete box from me that comes with everything on it.
gabriel_laddel: ben_vulpes: Nope.
gabriel_laddel: Nope. Will try next time around.
gabriel_laddel: mircea_popescu: nothing whatsoever, even when holding either F12 or F1 during boot.
gabriel_laddel: http://paste.lisp.org/display/329959 < for existing users: render macsyma forms directly into the buffer and operate on them there.
gabriel_laddel: masamune news: I've a machine for hosting the channel + logs+backups, but it is missing a power cord and doesn't have a bootable linux on it :/ Have never installed on a computer that didn't at the very least give me a boot screen, so have nfi how long this will take.
gabriel_laddel cannot deliver this masamune machine until the wifi works and wtf am I missing here
gabriel_laddel: Framedragger: have you managed to turn off the wifi on your x220 such that it won't re-enable when you toggle the hardware switch again?
gabriel_laddel: The franz "foxhole" == writing parsers for whoever comes along and pays them to do so, failing to exploit the most obvious benefit of lisp, surrendering the whole competitive advantage.
gabriel_laddel: To answer my own question: living in a foxhole for 25 years turns you into a faggot who thinks oakland is "up and coming"
gabriel_laddel: ya?
gabriel_laddel: phf: what sort of company lives in foxholes for over 25 years?!
gabriel_laddel: mircea_popescu: I will be, but as of yet have not even googled for a guide on how to do so.
gabriel_laddel: mircea_popescu: as a "client": kiwiirc on a bad connection, beirc if in the mood or default to emacs "host": nfi, never done it.
gabriel_laddel: http://paste.lisp.org/display/329035 < location of all missing McCLIM forms in the franz codebase if one gets bored.
gabriel_laddel: yeeeah.
gabriel_laddel: trinque: see your previous message..
gabriel_laddel: This, when they already had a complete clim implementation. ☟︎
gabriel_laddel: Franz Inc. implemented an entirely new CL GUI toolkit on top of windows and pay people to update it when windows updates.
gabriel_laddel: I have nfi, just saw that they utilize a cffi at some point. I interviewed at franz and talked with them about it (this is why it was released?) -- they have no vision and I consider anything they touch to be tainted.
gabriel_laddel: It has useful comments too, but the CFFI makes it a no-go for me.
gabriel_laddel: phf: It isn't, though it has implemented every form McCLIM is missing.
gabriel_laddel: Oh I see. ty downloading.
gabriel_laddel: you too see the end game, so I'm happy
gabriel_laddel: trinque: nein. whatever you've got to do to use CLIM in the day-to-day is fine with me.
gabriel_laddel: phf getting some linux boxen from which to host the #sane-clim / #masamune irc channel + logs either this friday or the next. Any chance you'll be releasing the logger at some point so that I don't have to write my own?
gabriel_laddel: ty
