mod6: After for sure. I don't have the exact date, but I'd say it was in the last week of september -- I reached out to a few people directly since I wasn't getting any takers in either #pizarro or #trielam.
mod6: We needed to get the ball rolling here, I went with it. I did ask you if you wanted to buy some, but you declined.
mod6: The bid came in yesterday evening
mod6: I'm sorry, I was just acting to do what I thought was best for Pizarro and it's customers. I seem to be getting it wrong, somehow.
mod6: I apologize trinque.
mod6: I will back away from all of this going forward. I'll let BingoBoingo handle this.
mod6: I actually didn't think it was any big deal, as previous months I had made these deals behind closed doors with jurov as wel.
☟︎ mod6: I'd love to do this a different way. I just felt like, other than alf spending money that he had saved for a possible emergency trip, we didn't have a lot of other options.
mod6: Since we were getting a bit desperate to get some fiat purchased, I offered to him to send the coins first, and he could mitigate that FX risk. We worked out the details in a PGP.
mod6: Last few months, jurov took a heavy hit on FX when he would quote us, send the wires, and then we would finally send him the coins at the end. He also was apparently butting up against some possible fiat limits.
mod6: So here's what went down.
mod6: trinque: hopefully lobbes' auction bot will be available next month.
mod6: This was conducted behind closed doors.
mod6: It was not pulled out of our "asses". We had a difficult time finding takers to sell us fiat this month. Late in the game, we came to a price point with jurov. This was the quoted amount.
mod6: We're willing to purchase more fiat at some point later in the month of course.
mod6: All, an update from Pizarro: The price point that Pizarro will be using for the month of October is $6170 per BTC.
mod6: Ok, just thought I'd offer.
mod6: mircea_popescu: Maybe the Foundation could pay for the machine, since she'll be doing work on behalf of the Foundation?
mod6: I also, really appreciate you stepping up to help me out. Seriously.
mod6: hanbot: Thank you, I really like both of these. I don't think I would change a word. Nice job!
mod6: now I get mp's -10 on thebluematt
mod6: Yeah, I wanted to get a bit of background here before I do. On-deck next :]

mod6: BingoBoingo: If you really want to take this on, I won't object. I had thought that we would kinda go over it together... but if you wanna work through it and see how it goes, that's fine. ben_vulpes told me that he would review the report before we publish it again this month.
mod6: Yes, mircea_popescu, any help from hanbot, yourself, asciilifeform would be awesome. I just have too many things atm.
mod6: All I'm saying folks is that I'm doing the best that I can with what I've got to work with.
mod6: BingoBoingo just got me his numbers, so I can start calculations on that stuff now. And I think I'm about to lock in a price point for October. Which we need not only to keep the lights on, but also so we can start invoicing folks so I don't take another beating like I did in July.
mod6: Hopefully it won't be that bad this time, but I'm having to learn all of this stuff as I go.
mod6: Last month took 17 days.
mod6: I'm not going to be done with this report a few days ~at a minimum~.
mod6: Once I have those things done, I can move on to these other things. Unless mircea_popescu and asciilifeform find it prudent that I drop what I'm doing there and write whatever this thing is.
mod6: I gotta get the report done for pizarro. I've also gotta lock in a price and get the bills paid.
mod6: I mean, my ticker can't keep up with this stuff. Gonna give me a heart-attack.
mod6: I could probably start there. I am getting winded here guys.
mod6: But I'd be glad to have some help, if anyone is willing to help ole mod6.
mod6: And for the time being, I've got Pizarro things that need doing.
mod6: I'm not at all sure, in every sense of the word, of what to write about the subject. All I know was "bug found in core version 0.16.X"
mod6: it may have been a while ago, ya.
mod6: i'll find it, just a minute. then I gotta reivew the rest of the log, and move on to pizarro things.
mod6: I gotta dig it up. It was from the "if you go on a fork..." thing iirc.[
mod6: Oh, that's what I think we did last time asciilifeform. deedbot.
mod6: well, lol, I guess the ML is in a bit of a state lately.
mod6: So just post whatever letters to the the world on mod6.net? And not the ML?
mod6: Sure. I just wanted to ensure that I knew what the facts were, should I say anything, and were to start getting questions about it.
mod6: I've just had 9000 lbs of shit in a 5 lbs bag lately. If someone wants to help me, or write something in conjunction with me, that'd be really great.
mod6:
http://btcbase.org/log/2018-10-03#1857624 << I did hear about this bug, of course. I had considered perhaps sending out something about this, but before I even dared to speak, I wanted to investigate the problem in prb-shithub, as well as the CVE. I haven't even had a spare moment yet.
☝︎ mod6: ok, let me get caught up here.
mod6: ben_vulpes: bitcoind has been stopped, and lovelace has been shutdown with `shutdown -h now`. Feel free to pack it up whenever you're ready. Thanks.
mod6: asciilifeform: ben_vulpes is bringing this with him to texas. He said he'd be able to have it up and running in a rack down there by mid-November.
mod6: I have also pulled '216.151.13.78' off of the Advertised Node list.
mod6: ben_vulpes: I am shutting down 'lovelace' (the second tbf node) now.
mod6: Lords and Ladies of TMSR~: Update on 216.151.13.78 (The Bitcoin Foundation's 2nd node), this TRB machine will be shutdown tomorrow morning, to be packed up and brought to texas (it's new home). We anticipate this box to come back online on-or-around November 15th.
