spyked: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-12-05#1878441 <-- sure thing! send me a list of feeds you want delivered (if a lot of them) and I'll have it join #eulora when you think it's appropriate (can sync up on that, e.g. tomorrow?) ☝︎
spyked: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-12-07#1878892 <-- apologies for the downtime. fleanode finally decided to sabotage all my connections while I wasn't looking ☝︎
mircea_popescu: i suspect by the same methodology "women's rights" will be a byword for bdsm and "#metoo" another way to say "idiot" in another decade. god knows "you guys are POWER RANGERS!!!" reddit gushing went exactly that way.
mircea_popescu: in other news, i've made such chicken shorba a la grec as was never seen in the new world. off to partake.

asciilifeform: i dunno whether the yugos had native ic production
asciilifeform: i recall father brought back from ro also a flashlight thing with fluorescent tube, not all that useful but blew asciilifeform's mind cuz 'how is this physically possible, the ballast in our jury-rigged fluorescent at dacha is bricks-sized'
mircea_popescu: "what, am i goiung to defect now ? these muppets have it worse than we do". stanculescu in moscow, signing mig purchase, 1984.
phf: diana_coman: my great-grandparents were all moved into the city by the time i was a grownup, they could only recall the olden days, not really demonstrate them
diana_coman: I got to know my great-grandmother and she lived in the countryside, in the plains too (where it gets scorching hot in the summer and bitterly cold in winter)
diana_coman: phf, I saw it! repeatedly even
asciilifeform: diana_coman: i dun keep chickens but imagine it'd work great, lol

asciilifeform: i had nfi
phf: this one is gost 280-2009, i'm not a visual machine at the moment to track it down though
phf: asciilifeform: i've noticed that with some of the products here, a lot of them have GoST as a kind of branding, since i suspect it's barely regulated, but the quality of substandard.
asciilifeform: ( they dun sell the 'gost' godly round can from riga, why -- i do not know )
asciilifeform: phf: fwiw i bought 5 types of sprat in ro, and only 1 was up to spec, and even that -- barely
phf: diana_coman: i've updated all the available sigs
phf: there's a dozen of different brands for both, i'll have to sample them all until i figure out the most authentic flavor
asciilifeform: the top can actually is available in usa; the bottom is slightly diff brand that what i get here, would be interesting to compare.

lobbes wonders if this is actually a bug in the english language. Closest word I could think of to denote both "to/by" was "via", but that does not really work in this case
lobbes: (for the curious: I had overlooked the fact that when a "buy" type auction ends the usual messaging (e.g. "...Item SOLD to Person for...") had to change to reflect this (i.e. had to change it to "...Item SOLD --by-- Person for..."))
lobbes: I just made a tiny fix to auctionbot. Everything seems to be working well and I don't anticipate any problems. Still, I'll be around for the rest of today in case there are.
BingoBoingo: I believe it is the 1st time they stole one from this China

mircea_popescu: tw works just fine. say when you got the mtp thing, i suspect we'll have some t for you to do.
mats: i believe there is an equivalent for hk, but my intentions are to stay in tw, due to familial contacts in the area, as well as comparatively lower cost of living
mats: once i have my tw passport, i will be able to apply for an MTP (mainland travel permit), which will allow for 90d stays in china proper
mats: i also expect to have no issues acquiring a tw passport, and will be available for republican business if its asked of me
mats: after some false starts, i've made arrangements to briefly return to hk in the spring and begin the process to acquire a permanent id card, after applying for the right to abode, which should have no issues as i was born there
mats: my apologies for the delayed report. i attempted the esp8266 experiment with a rigol ds1054z, only to discover the standard probe isn't sensitive enough
mircea_popescu: holy shit the patience i had back in 2016. and good fucking riddance.

mircea_popescu: "the republic with dead mp", as it were. i fail to see the difference between trotskite dewey, derais-ite cowley, or wtf was that lulzy irc channel...
asciilifeform: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-12-06#1878666 << iirc that lulzfest hinged on a 'cui bono' ( the folx who nailed de rais got to eat his estate ) , i can't picture what else tho ☝︎
BingoBoingo: If they can't clean up bums, I have my doubts they can clean up the sandflies
BingoBoingo: But will the Uruguayos stop being poor and start pressure washing the Pichis off the street? I have my doubts until the redditbags start inflating
a111: Logged on 2018-12-01 23:41 asciilifeform: i'm prolly the wrong fella to do it tho, very much not unbiased, i'll still like the character even if time machine supplies incontrovertible proof that he was a cannibal and ate hot chix erry morning for breakfast

asciilifeform: incidentally, tumblr -- at least , last i knew -- was famous among user base for a very... speshul style of db engineering, where 'let's return arbitrary subset of query, or sometimes gibblets of other users' queries, depending on load'
BingoBoingo: In other news, how nice is it the USG shut itself down today for a celebration of the day I got on an airplane.
asciilifeform: ( why not simply close the thing -- rather than imitating demise of digg, i do not know )
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: i didn't see toga in ro, but then again prolly didn't go to the right reservation.
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: nao i'm curious, how is this
ben_vulpes: i long ago gave up on the notion that i'd be working on anything approaching techne in american corpistan; but to wail about it instead of ekeing some amount of capital out seems fruitless. lessons of Mocky and phf instructive here.
ben_vulpes: asciilifeform: i'm not saying that i *like* this world, but that i'm going to eke fortune i can with the tools and men at hand.
BingoBoingo: ben_vulpes: I'll get to reading docs and pick a place to stand it up
ben_vulpes: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-12-05#1878457 << i would dearly love a compiler i could tell "please figure out how we X and write a one-pager for review", but this stinks of sv aiwilldoeverythingism ☝︎

asciilifeform: i suppose this is after rats eat the last crapple 'quadra'
mircea_popescu: no, it's not. "today i tried to boot my bolix, had to re-write apple bus"
asciilifeform: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-12-05#1878451 << this is elementarily troo of all soft, neh -- 'today i booted a dos box and i didn't have to write dos!' ☝︎
mircea_popescu: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-12-05#1878451 << mysql also does this, and i recall the history too (anyone remember digg being out for a coupla days because morons hit the max count of db entries, re-defined table to use larger ints, and had to ~rebuild the index offline~ for 30+ hours ?) ☝︎
ben_vulpes: ah no, i missed log lines. both cleared?
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo: logs suggest we have 2 outstanding wires; i don't suppose either have cleared yet, have they?
ben_vulpes: write the calculator of change in customer equity account for a given month (which is the biggest manual backbreaker); after that i will do depreciation on the tangibles by hand, update assets and liabilities tables.
ben_vulpes: asciilifeform: data entry of btc transactions and usd transactions is complete; data entry for prepaid customers and monthly paying customers is quite nearly so. BingoBoingo: please dig through notes and break customer nrCgvFMWCqpO's october payment into one for the rockchip and another for the shell. since they have different time horizons, they need separate subscriptions. asciilifeform: next thing i do is

a111: Logged on 2017-09-02 21:26 mircea_popescu: now this man... he had a set of 9V lightbulbs. and so as any good respectable citizen i sat down with the dead man's dragon pile, to TEST everythiung I got. yes ?
asciilifeform: phf, mircea_popescu : whether orig src/ns masks/etc lost or not, i dun expect ever to ~see~'em. hence 'reverse with available iron' being the only approach that has chance of working.

phf: i concede that there might be a faint within a faint, but i can't Munchhausen my way out of that one: i kind of have to assume that my perception of reality somewhat corresponds to reality, rather than a bunch of people playing elaborate games with me

phf: it's possible that one of those boxes actually have gold in it, but the handful that i opened had _mostly_ garbage
mircea_popescu: lobbes i see no problem whatsoever with rssbot taking over eulora. ☟︎
asciilifeform: phf: at the risk of repeating , i dun really buy the 'they lost errything' hypothesis. e.g. as late as '98, the docs req'd to bake the alpha-based emulator, evidently existed
asciilifeform: 'if piano falls, yer $100k box has a chance', i suppose the thinking went
asciilifeform: i like how they used to make workstation case from 5mm steel
phf: i was thinking though of moving it out of the ridiculous steel enclosure, that might make it a touch more transportable
phf: nah, left it at the office. at least there's enough wiring in place to do remote x11 (though i haven't tried yet, have people in place to flip switches, but not necessarily to reseat the boards)
phf: i regret not buying a macivory at discount when i had a chance, it also would've been easy to take to russia with me
asciilifeform: ( whereas i'm pretty sure that i have datashit for erry single item on ivory3 board other than the cpu itself )
phf: re dks and fpga, i'm also not sure that he has enough data, or if he even knows if he has enough, or if the "master" in question has enough. i'm starting to suspect that the reason nothing's moving forward is because it's an intellectual bezel, a cat that's alive only until observed
phf: asciilifeform: ah ty, i was mostly making a "bright side" argument, since we do have an xl1201
a111: Logged on 2018-10-19 01:04 asciilifeform: amberglint: when i went to his house 10y ago, offered to him to make fpga-ized 'ivory' , 'pro bono', if he'd only cough up with what. answr was approx 'can't , unless my master permits, and he wouldn't'
phf: heh, i like that last analogy
asciilifeform: ( but i'll stop with the analogy before i ruin errybody's appetite )
asciilifeform: chances are, i was Doing It Wrong, but still dun have a concrete idea of exactly how.
