mircea_popescu: FabianB i don't, so i'm just shelving it.
benkay: just addressing your mischaracterization of me. just because i have opinions about mpex agent's test suite doesn't mean i don't do manual data munging (or have people do it) when appropriate.

Namworld: I have those turned off in my client since last year. I don't see those anymore. Was quite annoying and barely helpful.
benkay: reputation and behavior are incredibly important because you can rewrite the blockchain basically at will, unless you do something with a merged-mine approach (but i don't know enough about mm to comment really)
mircea_popescu: jurov i don't get what it'd be supposed to do tho. you mean dial-up access only ? anyone can connect to a website on dial-up as it is.
artifexd: I don't understand this “burning bitcoin" concept. Bitcoin are destined to be one of the most valuable commodities that have ever existed. Burning them is just dumb. Plain and simple. Dumb.
asciilifeform: 'but dr. x!! i just don't -get- euler's totient! pleeeease explain it again!'
mircea_popescu: "I don't think an average man can pursue women effectively if he is primarily thinking about how good sex will feel when he gets it. That just isn't the right mindset when a man has to chat up dozens of women before he finds one with whom sex is a reasonable possibility." holy shit, with what woman is sex not a reasonable possibility ?!
mircea_popescu: "By the first time I had "sex" (depending on how you define it, since I took things in stages) I had already endured years of frustration and humiliation of an intensity that I don't think I can properly put into words." a ok. ☟︎

Peach: I don't like this, just-dice is easier to read.
mircea_popescu: "If marriage constituted more than a hypothetical risk of getting raped, I would expect women to learn to avoid it as women have learned to avoid walking around alone at night, or at least show some reluctance to get married, as women often show reluctance to put themselves into positions of vulnerability with men they just met or men they have gotten to know and decided they don't want to have sex with." << this is ac
mircea_popescu: well, thing is... i don't really need you to do dirty things.
mircea_popescu: i don't think i've ever had an encounter with any sort of govt employee where i couldn't have sued him into the dirt if so inclined.

cazalla: i don't know how anyone can have animals in their house tbh
gabriel_laddel: mircea_popescu: You don't have to tell houseguests to flush the toilet. I see no reason you would have to tell SB, Taleb, etc. that they should use their brains. (Which is all I got from fluffypony's post)
mircea_popescu: problem here is this : i don't want these people on any random terms. they have to come on our terms to be useful. that's a big part of it, smart people are great, educable smart people are actually useful.
mike_c: i don't know any way that scales well these days. jborkl's post was unsettling.
mike_c: i'm not a big fanboy of coinbase, but i don't see how they could do it better.

mike_c: i don't know. I guess I didn't feel like it fit the rest of his portfolio.
Rassah: benkay: this is what one calls a "strawman" argument. // actually this is what is being suggested that people do to create secure paper wallets. I am suggesting that ours is comparable. At the least because people who use that method don't check the RNGs of the systems they use, and at the most because we don't actually use an RNG chip, and use our own source of randomness.
mike_c: i haven't seen it, which is why i don't own one.
Rassah: I seriously hate this keyboard btw... It's a very old microsoft touch-type wireless ergonomic, and it misses the keys around the G and H constantly. But I'm too cheap of a bastard to get a better one. So, please ignore my typos, and don't let them reflect on my grammar skills (I took Latin, damnit!)
mircea_popescu: he could also say "i don't want my signature to be dependent on the code written last year by a bunch of dudebros"
Rassah: asciilifeform: We've dealt with skew stuff too. I don't remember what it was, but it was addressed (I think we have more than enough enropy to work with or something)
BingoBoingo: Rassah: ... Otherwise I don't know what the difference in implementation is between PGP and BTC signing << Other big difference is PGP signing has a nice container for inline signatures attached to signed human readable text of arbitrary length
mircea_popescu: Rassah well then i guess they don't get to talk about it at all, to no-one's particular detriment.
Rassah: BingoBoingo: I think Prius calls it a transaxle too. But I don't see it as any sort of normal "transmission"
Rassah: mircea_popescu: Not realy. The reason I was hired is because they don't have time or patience for that
mircea_popescu: anyway, i still don't know what it is or what's to go gaga over.
Rassah: I am especially concerned about the one where mining in a pool is made difficult to impossible by making sharing a secret key that lets the miner steal all coins a requirement. The way I see it is, we either have pools that concentrate mining power, but don't actually own or control that power, or we create incentives for individuals to amass tons of mining power, since being a smal miner or as part of a pool is impossible, and
mircea_popescu: i don't do safewords either.
Rassah: It's supported by bitcoind, blockchain.info, Armory, Mycelium, and probably many others. I figured bitcoin message signing is a step in the right direction, because not many are working on making PGP keys secure as hell, but tons of people are woking on making Bitcoin keys secure as hell, and easy to use from wallets. Otherwise I don't know what the difference in implementation is between PGP and BTC signing
Rassah: mircea_popescu: I don't think washed out child actors have millions privately invested in tons of companies, and tak about this shit over 20 rounds of beer that they pay with an AmEx Centurion card
Rassah: pankkake: I agree with you that you don't need a coin for anything backed. Backing is by definition centralized, so the only thing you can decentralize is the servers handling it. Which, I guess using a distributed ledger instead of a centralized one running on your own server saves you a bit of money, but...
fluffypony: so I don't think that's a good match
Rassah: Mircea: I don't know
Rassah: <ThickAsThieves> No I DOn't
Rassah: So I think "reddit/skype/etc still wonder why atc is a thing" should have been " reddit/skype/etc don't even know atc is a thing."

Rassah: Most of the people I'm connected with don't have time for it.
Rassah: Mircea, care to fill me in on other thins I've missed? The "we don't need distributed xchanges ay more" is surprising considering MtGox died just 6 months ago, and BTC-e is questionable
Rassah: So, has it been long settled that we don't need a distributed exchange? I missed that memo...
decimation: "According to Volack, most of the stray and wild cats in the city are usually spotted in backyards, and she sometimes gets resistance when she tries to trap the cats. "I've been trying my hardest to capture the strays and feral cats and kittens, but I have just as many people who don't want me to trap them as those who do.""

danielpbarron: i don't get it then; you have an offline machine for your BTC but you keep your gpg key on the online windows thing?
Duffer1: artifexd afaik my gpg key wasn't compromised, but i have know way to confirm, my bitcoins are safe, i don't have anything online or on my comp
cazalla: danielpbarron: why don't you trust ubuntu? (that's what I use)

kyuupichan: Coordinating them and their payment processor (coinbase) was a PITA, particularly as I don't live in US so it was international phone calls. I'm not a fan of coinbase but to be honest they seemed to fix it, and they were the most helpful.
mircea_popescu: i really don't see a conflict.
