kanzure: not-highly-unique but really as soon as you know more than a handful of things, you're already likely something that doesn't exist somewhee else in aggregate
kanzure: oh, i'm not even talking about the people who started the projects
kanzure: naturally this ends up causing some weirdness.. some people focusing on just hadoop or whatever. which is weird. but you can see why it happens.
kanzure: and then they get picked up by the industrial whales or do contracting gigs
kanzure: where their open source projects, blogs, conference talks/videos, whatever, serves as a way of directing traffic to them
kanzure: so, what people do instead is more like in-bound marketing
kanzure: knowing even just a little bit of programming puts you beyond the hope of most job sites
kanzure: alas, on one of my recent gigs i somehow ended up traveling for a week every few months.. it was trickery. :(

kanzure: so anyone with an ounce of experience is making.. a lot more. :)

kanzure: so at minimum they have to pretend they have limits in order to not reveal that their cold storage sytsem isn't cold
kanzure: well they have rate limits on amount of bitcoin they can send at a time on coinbase because of how they claim their cold storage system works
