mircea_popescu: there's something i don't understand. if 3 mods pop at the same time like this, shouldn't it be because they shared a factor ?
asciilifeform: http://www.loper-os.org/p=1733 ain't it
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: possibly. i haven't opened the hood on that thing in eons
shinohai: Dear lord, if I find a bug, I certainly don't want to report it, I want to hide it away for future use, if any!
shinohai: Use Cases: "Willy was creating a logo for his soccer club in Inkscape when it crashed. Being the family's Ubuntu expert, he feels a responsibility to help improve the system. He's reported one or two bugs in Launchpad before, though it wasn't a particularly enjoyable experience. "
pete_dushenski: asciilifeform: from peterl in contravex comments : "I could be wrong (have not ordered one yet myself), but isn't the cardano a sub-piece of the FUCKGOATS? So they are delivering a bigger, more complex, more useful item (but later) than what they originally planned to sell?" i must say i missed this difference b/w fuckgoats and cardano as well. i guess i'd assumed that the latter'd been renamed to the former
pete_dushenski: mircea_popescu: http://trilema.com/2013/why-i-am-not-a-white-nationalist/#footnote_1_50246 << lol found the quote that google couldn't last night
mod6: i like how the guy couldn't keep it out of the ditch even with chains on the tires.
Framedragger: (i should write down some stuff before i forget, such as, figuring out ssh-keyscan limits etc.; luckily i wasn't dumb enough to delete any scripts written etc...)
Framedragger: (note, some of those version strings contain OS string, some of them don't; these TXTs store versionstrings-as-they-were-seen, without any ssh-server/OS version separation.)
Framedragger: asciilifeform: ah, correction: s1_banners.tar.gz is only the first ~13.3M servers - i.e. the first set of thirteen parcels i gave you - here's the rest - i.e. the three additional parcels (i know phuctor won't be processing these for a while, but, for completeness): http://siphnos.mkj.lt/datadrop/banners/s2/s2_banners.tar.gz
phf: fwiw play on mac scripts didn't add anything except for a dodgy point and click interface that downloads a bunch of stuff i don't need. game still doesn't play well with native rendering. i suspect tha some specific binary blob version of directx (or precursor?) will solve the issue, but...
asciilifeform: (sit just-so or it looks like soup, and certainly doesn't beat the trinitron crt on which i originally played the classics)
phf: nah, just wanted to play mm7 on my mac. if i was building nostalgiatron, i'd just put a windows 95 on it, tbh. if i don't put an x60 to good use, i might just that to it
ben_vulpes doesn't drive much at all
ben_vulpes: subarus don't need snow tires bro
ben_vulpes: lmk when i don't have to pay for useless insurance any more
pete_dushenski: time frame a smidge. my first draft was every bit as correct, if not moreso in regards to the commencement of his influence on markets. trump ain't rollin' in no horse 'n' buggy and no one's waiting to read about his acceptance speech via pony express. it's 2016 dawg and news travels like you wouldn't believe.
a111: Logged on 2016-12-15 02:29 pete_dushenski: mircea_popescu: i haven't won quite yet. i let ben_vulpes change the time window to only include trump's exact and official term, not the transition period, so jan 20 and four years onwards.
mircea_popescu: cleric needs personality doesn't need int and sorc vice-versa. so that respectively works magic.
mircea_popescu skated in georgia. wasn't too bad.
a111: Logged on 2016-12-15 02:59 pete_dushenski: mircea_popescu: http://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/even-in-israel-more-and-more-parents-choose-not-to-circumcise-their-sons-1.436421 << somewhere around 2% of little jewboys aren't letting the mohel suck 'em off at day 8.
mod6: so, the batteries don't do that great in the cold. but the real problem is the antifreeze. plugging in the blockwarmer runs current through the antifreeze so it won't freeze.
pete_dushenski: mircea_popescu: http://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/even-in-israel-more-and-more-parents-choose-not-to-circumcise-their-sons-1.436421 << somewhere around 2% of little jewboys aren't letting the mohel suck 'em off at day 8. ☟︎
pete_dushenski was rather annoyed that his fleet wouldn't start during recent cold snap. fists were shaken.
pete_dushenski: mod6: and if you don't plug your cars in or park in a (preferably heated) garage, it's uber-ville for you.
pete_dushenski: lol. being chinese is so fucking opposite of being a jew i don't even know where to start. number 1 selling book in nigeria might as well be "how to raise child like a norwegian"
pete_dushenski: mircea_popescu: ok but haircuts don't make you shorter. even going bald doesn't shrink a man, though a correlation obv exists with advanced age.
pete_dushenski: mats: lol. at full attention : 1 in-the-flesh. which is really the only way to tell anything. seen tons in whatever camp shower but doesn't tell you much.
pete_dushenski: mircea_popescu: where does this tiny jewdick meme originate ? i can't say it, um, measures up with anectodal experience.
pete_dushenski: except for the whole "jews are niggars are enemies" angle, which i haven't quite resolved for myself yet
pete_dushenski: mircea_popescu: i haven't won quite yet. i let ben_vulpes change the time window to only include trump's exact and official term, not the transition period, so jan 20 and four years onwards. ☟︎
mod6: yeah, certainly could be. i guess i wasn't initially thinking about the SSH keys.
a111: Logged on 2016-12-14 23:49 shinohai: Roger Ver: "But a bunch of bitcoin supporters don't like centralized web wallets? That's crazy talk." http://archive.is/GHUXj
mircea_popescu: i don't think so.
mircea_popescu: and this isn't the end of it, or the peak of it. this is just a random example out of an endless pile.
asciilifeform: which basics. i import eizo here too, they aren't born in usa
mircea_popescu: i don't think you grok the basics. which is understandable - nobody does.
mircea_popescu: as if teens don't wanna watch it go in
shinohai: "She won't break the glass ceiling. she'll just leave the building unlocked!"
shinohai: Roger Ver: "But a bunch of bitcoin supporters don't like centralized web wallets? That's crazy talk." http://archive.is/GHUXj ☟︎
mircea_popescu: what a gfx box that wasn't made by monkeys for monkeys would look like apparently remains an open question, ubuntu's not much better than period debian from what i see.
mircea_popescu: yes, if i made it it wouldn't suck. i tell this to people all the time too, "had i fucked your mother instead of that dumbass she lays with, you wouldn't be this fucking useless. go tell ehr that."
asciilifeform: and no, they aren't made
mircea_popescu: meanwhile there's all these "technologee companees" hard at work to come up with random shit one couldn't ever have imaged he'd have to fix IN THE FUTURE.
thestringpuller: shinohai: Vitalik Buterin looks to be panicking about ETH price freefall. He's goin on about how "Internet of Money shouldn't cost 5 cents per transaction" on some stupid vine clone this morning
asciilifeform: perhaps he got bored when he saw that phuctor didn't pop the amd keys...
asciilifeform: now if the only usable c compiler weren't 100MB of ???????? !
trinque: there isn't a way to insulate from it and still bother with the bum
mircea_popescu: i don't see why.
mircea_popescu: eh python 2.x isn't the end of the world.
BingoBoingo: Poor Cliter, she ain't ever beating Kanye.
BingoBoingo: Except I don't get to play with the food as much.
hanbot: couldn't've hurt. really though, there's nothing like travel and working for mp to give someone a pair of disdain and derision glasses.
mircea_popescu: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-12-13#1582795 << you live in an alt world. i don't think ANY car in buenos aires EVER averaged 50/hr over a whole day of its entire its lifetime. ☝︎
mircea_popescu: in wetware these are stress-switched (which is why "stress" even exists in mammals) ; but i don't expect hardware to be able to reconfigure my machine from one to the other - just as long as it does either well i can buy two machines.
asciilifeform: am quite certain , in fact, that there isn't one
asciilifeform: i don't expect an answer.
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: you can't actually program in haskell 'without using that part', not really
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform i don't suspect he's using THAT part.
mircea_popescu: ben_vulpes you don't get it : the "Reputation" bs is institutionalized oppression. in any system where group x has "reputation for y-bad" you know for a fact that a) group z is in charge ; b) group z is y-bad and c) group x is not.
a111: Logged on 2016-12-13 17:16 phf: davout: it's easier to find an instructor, than it is to "find any private pilot". plus you know asciilifeform objection "i don't know any private pilots"
mircea_popescu: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-12-13#1582749 << this is like saying "it's a lot easier to find call girl than incredibly hot girl bored out of her wits at every single party because every single dude is trained by figure 4 above to aim low and won't even talk to her." ☝︎
ben_vulpes: in specific grading a lisp 'c' for 'prototyping support' (review panel completely ignorant of repls i suppose) and 'c' for 'high level structuring' (macros don't exist i guess?)
davout: where i live "cold storage" means you won't die eating the chicken
davout: where i live you don't just "buy stuff"
davout: isn't "cold prong" the "ground pin" ?
asciilifeform: but it wasn't a wire, it was a small neodymium magnet
asciilifeform: it wasn't even acutely painful, just same sensation as if you had sat on your hand for a while
asciilifeform: probably on the principle of 'arm writhes in agony, can't think about also vomiting'
ben_vulpes: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-12-13#1582844 << 'experimental' i don't think needs license. ☝︎
davout: so i mastered the demo. demo didn't have the wire extended for carrier-landing? after countless attempts i managed to fucking land on the carrier anyway
davout: that for some unknown reason you don't automatically get along with your private pilot license
davout: asciilifeform: you sure? it's kinda doubtful you don't at the ver least have to understand airspace class in general, and not get in the way of people trying to go somewhere in particular
davout: "certified as long as you don't get caught"
asciilifeform: we had a neato inertial navigation thread, but i can't seem to find igt.
davout: ah yeah, i don't think there's much of that to be had
davout: i don't think it's the "piloting" part that's attractive to me, but more the "let's go see the sun" when all the other derps are stuck under a shitty stratus shittus overcast layer
phf: asciilifeform: i don't have any peripherals. i use it for their instrument challenges, and they also have a mode where they randomly fail something in the plane and you need to figure out what do. that sort of stuff
phf: davout: it's easier to find an instructor, than it is to "find any private pilot". plus you know asciilifeform objection "i don't know any private pilots" ☟︎
davout: they won't even be legally allowed to charge you more than splitting the airplane rental costs
Framedragger: hehe, don't know particulars, but it should be noted that he studied philosophy and in some of the circles he had to have business with, ayn rand sorta-has a place as a non-crackpot. hence the (arbitrary, otherwise) particular object of hate
a111: Logged on 2016-12-13 12:49 mircea_popescu: i wouldn't say you must. "when you design for the novice in the sense of trying to lie to them about their inferiority, you are stuck with that lie and it gets ever more expensive to maintain"
a111: Logged on 2016-12-13 12:35 trinque: why the fuck can't I name and reuse "joins" in SQL ?
Framedragger: asciilifeform: quick unrelated q: in phuctor, do the phuctored debianized keys appear in /phuctored ? from what i recall and understand, all of them are there. and one wouldn't have to look at /sadmods or /dupes - correct?
mircea_popescu: so a) use vim ; b) there's a humongo economy of strokes, at the cost of muscle memory, if youy care. if you don't car,e go ahead.
asciilifeform: they ain't a 'mode'
asciilifeform: modal means you can get stuck in some mode where text isn't going on the screen
asciilifeform: it isn't that this is useless thing to study! but there is distinct flavour of 'why play 'doom', instead go to the recruiter post and go to afghan, die of scurvy and boredom'
asciilifeform: but no, you don't even get to touch airplane for fiddybux in usa. insurance for your so much as farting on it, is a hundy.
Framedragger: i don't know how it is in the .us and it's prolly *quite* a bit more complicated than that, also i had the lucky chance of having a relative who'd invite to fly with him and show me basic flight control stuff, but are you not able to get lessons as a total noob?
Framedragger: asciilifeform: except you're not paying for the full retail price of a harley, and you don't need to train for 10 years? :)
mircea_popescu: possibly the most amply researched stupid idea in the history of human science ; "is there life other than on earth" didn't receive 1% of 1% of the attention.
mircea_popescu: kinda how the entire modern insanity came about. "oh, people are more productive when they THINK they're good, irrespective of how good they are" "yeah, but telling people who aren't good that they're good convincingly has a cost" "well, what if we try and arbitrage the delta-productivity from the first against the marginal-cost from 2nd ?!" "dude what" "no really, if we made all the tools really shitty ? and mass production
mircea_popescu: i wouldn't say you must. "when you design for the novice in the sense of trying to lie to them about their inferiority, you are stuck with that lie and it gets ever more expensive to maintain" ☟︎
Framedragger: can materialized views use joins in the way you want to? i haven't looked into them for some time, so dunno.
trinque: you can create views, yes, but relationships aren't separate, defined things you can invoke at will
trinque: why the fuck can't I name and reuse "joins" in SQL ? ☟︎
