mod6: we're still testing this out... but i/we haven't encoutered anything like this until just this past 72 hours:
mod6: one sec, i have a matrix for what we've tried.
mod6: in a wide variety of ways, and it's not consistant, we've been having issues getting past the last checkpoint block (more often than not): 168,000
mod6: http://therealbitcoin.org/ml/btc-dev/2015-February/000043.html << asciilifeform, thanks for this. this goes along with some of the trouble we've been seeing over the last 72 hours.

mod6: kakobrekla: i like that.
mod6: maybe "disconnected blocks" or something
mod6: mircea_popescu: fair point there.
mod6: they really are "orphans", since an orphan is someone with out parents right? so im fine with calling them orphans, i think there is confusion around how these come into existance.
mod6: pblock is probably not a good name, since in most of the code "pblock" is what is denoted for a pointer to a block.
mod6: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/v0.5.3/src/main.cpp#L2788

mod6: we appreciate all the help that the attendants of #b-a have given to the foundation & the effort to decruft the R.I.
mod6: thanks for the help mike_c!
mod6: ok cool.
mod6: well, for instance if you received the blocks out of order, and then you got the child of 144,000 a few after some others, then it can't continue
mod6: not sure what the specifics were there.
mod6: well, if he removed the entire orphanMap, then it if the chain split off and became the new best chain, it can't move forward.
mod6: ben_vulpes: ah.
mod6: The Bitcoin Developers^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^HPower Rangers

mod6: we want to get this thing running on openbsd, but in the 5 minutes i looked at it, iirc there was a database version change and maybe another thing or two that needed to change. can't recall off the bat.
mod6: oh yeah cool.
mod6: well, he was just looking at how they limit to 750 in forward versions right?
mod6: I appreciate any help/guidence you can provide in that direction.
mod6: ah, yikes. we'll keep working on the map of orphans problem into next month for sure.

mod6: ye ole 3 hour tour
mod6: *whew*
mod6: ok that worked.
mod6: maybe i can use this chdir thing
mod6: but apparently you have to be in the src dir to execute the `make -f makefile.unix` successfully.
