jborkl: massive USB stick miner release and upcoming orders i am guessing
grubles: 12-13k eventually over time
jcpham: fudge
grubles: well
Chaang-Noi: i lost my money with pirate but i did not lend more than i could lose, i realize how silly it was and well, lesson learned
grubles: it was paper money
Chaang-Noi: he is only about the 20th person who has scammed me
grubles: i probably withdrew way more than 1k over the course of btcst
jcpham: principal is all that existed
Chaang-Noi: grubles then if you took more than you got in the govt can take that from you
grubles: and that was back in $2 days
Chaang-Noi: just like the maddof pervz
grubles: if i took more than i got?
grubles: what does that mean
jcpham: i've walked away from because the only real money was on the blockchain
Chaang-Noi: if you make 1200 and lost 1000 the govt can and will take that 200 from you
jcpham: like all those paypal buys grubles
jcpham: i should be pissed at you
jcpham: for selling me nothing
jcpham: but i'm not
grubles: whatchu talkin bout
jcpham: does that make sense
mircea_popescu: grubles you never withdrew anything ?
Chaang-Noi: <grubles> i probably withdrew way more than 1k over the course of btcst
jcpham: like when i'd buy coins from your account
mircea_popescu: a ok. so then...
jcpham: and they'd get transferred to my
jcpham: account
Chaang-Noi: he took out more than he put in, and he is telling that to the govt, facepalm
jcpham: that was all fake
grubles: oh gotcha
grubles: jcpham,
jcpham: see what i mean?
grubles: yeah facepalm im being honest
jcpham: yeah
Chaang-Noi: are you willing to give that extra to the govt?
jcpham: so i've moved on now
grubles: unlike some peeps in here
jcpham: the principal and what existed on the blockchain is all that ever be proven
jcpham: anything else is imaginary pirate math
grubles: i suppose
Chaang-Noi: grubles do what you want but if pirate gets charged they will then go after people like you who made money on this and try to get it back, they did it to madoff
mircea_popescu: ^
jcpham: you can see if you made money or not
jcpham: it's on the blockchain
mircea_popescu: methinks grubles didn't think this whole thing through
grubles: lol im 24 years old
jcpham: deposit address/withdrawal addres
jcpham: subtract the difference
mircea_popescu: there's a thing called clawback
grubles: right
mircea_popescu: if you deposited 1k, withdrew 1.15k and consider yourself a victim
grubles: trust me ive got it covered
Chaang-Noi: clawback, that is the word i was looking for
mircea_popescu: you're good for 150 btc * 100 = 15k
jcpham: i moved on because of that
mircea_popescu: or w/e the price ends up being
grubles: obv this shit is complicated
jcpham: according to the blockchain i lost
grubles: as we all know
Chaang-Noi: see people whgo lost money can sue you grubles for the money you made in civil court
grubles: ok so what is considered "lost money"
mircea_popescu: "A pupil shall be permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs, and activities, and facilities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records."
jcpham: my definition is anything depostid not returned
Chaang-Noi: i thin this is why the govt is having such a hard time, cuz the govt wants to charge everyone involved (or take their money) so no one is helping them
mircea_popescu: dude back in my day i didn't have to claim i feel like a girl to hang out in the girls' locker room.
grubles: returned in what though
grubles: btc? usd?

jcpham: blockchain
jcpham: btc
jcpham: funds went in via blockchain

grubles: no
Chaang-Noi: well they do,
Chaang-Noi: they even told me that when they wanted me to be a witness
jcpham: my talks with pirate were about keeping coins off the market

grubles: p. moustakis, head attorney, submits info to a committee which then reviews it
jcpham: purposefully raising the price

damientrog: hehe
damientrog: it's named after Monty Python, so there
damientrog: nothing beats that
Framedragger: i like certain metaprogramming aspects of ruby. ruby succeeds in being a more true 'wanna be lispian' kid as opposed to python
damientrog: that's true
Framedragger: and it works, it's really expressive
truff1es: ruby is foreign to me, i see what python can do
Framedragger: the |block| stuff

truff1es: python just seems so well organized
truff1es: nice presentation
truff1es: and works right away
damientrog: I really appreciate the CS uni education I had
damientrog: we got Scheme, Lisp, Smalltalk, and bitfuck C
Framedragger: cool re: scheme
Framedragger: yeah python really gets the job done for many domains. e.g. it's real good for scientific computing (numpy, plotting, speed support from C implementations of the stuff that matters etc)
Framedragger: nice
truff1es: exactly the stuff that matters in life
truff1es: whyd one need anything else
damientrog: my favorite project was to extend the language that our professor made (Pico)
Framedragger: well i'm veeery slowly getting into haskell. i'm all up for "fuck practical things, let's do category theory in programming!!11!"
damientrog: it's a functional lisp like language with a c-like syntax
damientrog: man you learn a lot then
truff1es: that too, i like practical
damientrog: I plastered my walls with all the code
damientrog: those were the days
Framedragger: i can only imagine. was it interpreted or actually compiled? writing compilers is a whole new level of brainfuck
damientrog: interpreted
Framedragger: though rabbit holes everywhere
damientrog: we had to write compilers too
damientrog: I've got my own language on my name too :)
damientrog: a declarative language
damientrog: pretty proud of that
truff1es: explain
damientrog: well we started a spin-off at university
Framedragger: nice :)
damientrog: the product was an engine that does format translations
damientrog: e.g. from one kind of xml to another or sql
damientrog: so you declare the semantics of you schema
Framedragger: ooh sounds delicious
damientrog: and you declared that in Ω-RIDL

damientrog: and translates your data to any format it understands
damientrog: I wrote the prototype in Ruby
Framedragger: i've seen some ruby code that attempts to do those kinds of things i think. but if you ended up implementing a parser for such a thing, then truly awesome!
damientrog: that was slow as fuck
Framedragger: hah
damientrog: wrote it in Java afterwards
Framedragger: ugh
Framedragger: :(
damientrog: since it needed to be implemented in a service bus and platform independent
damientrog: and yes wrote a parser
damientrog: in sablecc if I recall correctly
Framedragger: is it a published / open source project / is there a repo?

KRS-1: mtgox did not create their SSL certificate correctly. If you go to www.mtgox.com you will get a cert error. They either did not buy a wildcard certificate or create the request using www.
KRS-1: no cause for concern though, the certificate is still okay, you can even remove the www from your URL and the error will go away. In either case your data exchange with them will still be encrypted.

guruvan: -assets doesn't lose it when BTC/"USD takes a shit - the freakout in other channels shows the truth
jcpham: freak outZ!
Framedragger: part of the freakout is obvs sarcastic / intended, but yeah still
truff1es: guruvan more circle jerking goes on itc than elsewhere too
guruvan: yeah - thank god for that - I had to leave other chans because I'm too "offtopic"
mircea_popescu: FREaK!!!

mod6: omg and it /snowed/ again here yesterday, like wtf!? shit is getting old!
jcpham: mod6 god hates you
guruvan: fuck snow
mod6: haha jcpham
jcpham: he shits frozen water on you
mjr_1: I want an army like this .... http://www.asctec.de/uav-applications/research/applications/applications-2/swarming/
guruvan: hopefully you don't measure your typical snowfall in FEET like we do here mod6 (or meters)
lippoper: 1.6k sell wall at 104
mod6: oh and jcpham, i did get an email about the other 1/2 of my coinabul order shipping yesterday.
mod6: So... apparently that's happening. Will give another update after I receive.
jcpham: nothing here
jcpham: 14 ounces
jcpham: no contact
jcpham: coingenuity gonna get bitchslapped
jcpham: :)
mod6: guruvan: well, typically we get a range. its not like mountain snowfall though. sometimes 1-2" sometimes 8-12"...
guruvan: I don't think I'd buy from them after the troubles I've seen
jcpham: guruvan u may be right
jcpham: i've seen and seen and seen too
guruvan: thank god for that mod6 - here I usually see 2-3 ft each snowfall
truff1es: mjr_1 is that some kind of seduction ?
guruvan: jcpham: not to mention that if he can't fill the order refunds come in fiat, not in the original paid BTC price
mod6: jcpham: ahh, hmm. i placed my orders on the 9th.. my slv one got here pretty quick. but the gld order took until yesterday to ship apparently.
mod6: not sure if the recent physical gld buying frenzy played a roll in that, or if it was the btc bubble pop that played a roll there. but 60 days i guess is my max limit.
jcpham: i placed my order around $250/ per btc
mod6: s/roll/role/
jcpham: which was some time ago
guruvan: hmm. yeah - I think I'll buy elsewhere
guruvan: when it's back to $25 a coin
guruvan: $250
mod6: My silver order was /pretty/ though.
mod6: So I was pretty happy with that.
mod6: I usually just pay cash at a local place around here, but when it was @ $260/btc ea. I thought, wth, give these guys a shot and see what happens.
guruvan: the BTC makes it so easy to want to do it that way - but. ...I know I certainly offer refunds to people in the currency they paid me (in the same amount as was paid)
mod6: Yeah, if I pay in BTC, I demand to be paid back in BTC.
mircea_popescu: The "encrypt wallet" feature in wxBitcoin and bitcoind 0.4.x before 0.4.1, and 0.5.0rc, does not properly interact with the deletion functionality of BSDDB, which allows context-dependent attackers to obtain unencrypted private keys from Bitcoin wallet files by bypassing the BSDDB interface and reading entries that are marked for deletion.
mircea_popescu: lmao
mod6: whoops lol
mircea_popescu: Unspecified vulnerability in bitcoind and Bitcoin-Qt before 0.4.7rc3, 0.5.x before 0.5.6rc3, 0.6.0.x before, and 0.6.x before 0.6.3rc1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (process hang) via unknown behavior on a Bitcoin network.
mircea_popescu: http://www.cvedetails.com/vulnerability-list/vendor_id-12094/product_id-22744/year-2012/Bitcoin-Bitcoind.html
mircea_popescu: pretty funnystuff
guruvan: mod6: IIRC he'll refund in BTC, after converting to the now current exchange rate. :P
mircea_popescu: The alert functionality in bitcoind and Bitcoin-Qt before 0.7.0 supports different character representations of the same signature data, but relies on a hash of this signature, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (resource consumption) via a valid modified signature for a circulating alert.
mircea_popescu: ahahaha
mod6: guruvan: yeah, I'm ok will refunds minus the fees, but not after a conversion to some fiat.
mod6: I'd probably negrate for stuff like that.
mircea_popescu: things one finds reading noob bashing :
mircea_popescu: for x in $(eval echo {1..10000})
mod6: It's like, hey, if I place an order, and something fucks up: i.e. can't get delivery, order is cancelled, I'd expect full refund of BTC, perhaps minus small fee.
mircea_popescu: you may be surprised.
mod6: But I value BTC pretty much higher than most other things that I could purchase with it, which is why I don't spend much of it.
mod6: well, aside from the trust level.
mod6: that's always an issue -- too many fucking scammarz.
mod6: but if i want to pay 2.3 magical swords for your warez, and you can't deliver, I expect to get my 2.3 magical swords back.
Framedragger: haha for echo.. sounds like a php kiddie trying to do bash scripting or sth
Framedragger: bitcoin CVEs yeah, it's funny when folks claim there've been no vulnerabilities
mod6: I've been crazy busy though trying to keep up with work and btc-land stuff. I made few line changes to the vwap & depth perl scripts for bitotter last-night. And I've been testing some changes to the trade script (bitotter.pl) for about 2 weeks, just making sure all works good before the next checkin with that.
mod6: As far as the android app, I've been working on the encryption stuff, which has been going ok -- did a bunch of code clean out etc.
mod6: smickles & thestringpuller signed up to help but they're too busy or w/e so I think I'm just back to on-my-own on that one.
mod6: I'm pretty excited because I think I finally am getting some sound changes in there for the encryption piece.
mod6: I looked through the APG and that thing is pretty awesome. But too bad it just can't do what we need for now. It'd be great if another droid app could just call enc() or dec(), shovel it some data and a key id and get back what you need, but it doesn't do that kidna thing yet.

If they want to stay anonymous, pseudonymous or the like, I will only post what I am allowed to. I will also disclose their principals. (You know, a delegate has to file a letter of attorney for every organization (s)he represents, to be considered a legal representative. Unless (s)he just represents him/herself.)

mircea_popescu: "Lastly, I have found it best to ignore the arrogant MP and his supposed PR person as they think they are so much better than rest of us. I have rarely seen him have anything positive to say about anything positive on this forum. ThickAsThieves: I'm interested to see how AM decides to handle this selling of USB miners
ThickAsThieves: only practical method I can think of is to have a flat price and first come, first served
mircea_popescu: they can make a killing
kakobrekla: those are made to rub it in bfls face?
ThickAsThieves: but if they auction they'd make more money
mircea_popescu: nah, sell off batches of 100 - 1000
mircea_popescu: kakobrekla yup
mircea_popescu: or more practically, to kill their market.
ThickAsThieves: but they will get legions of poor people crying if they dont sell singles
mircea_popescu: notice that they only got the move on them once bfl actually started delivering
mircea_popescu: im pretty sure they were going to match whatever product bfl was shipping, if they started with singles same deal.
mircea_popescu: pretty decent business head somewhere in the am team.

mircea_popescu: and the "has issues" prize goes to...
kakobrekla: yes that is dog
mircea_popescu: also rikur promises to make further timetables and other proofs.
mircea_popescu: i kinda like it when people feel that a simple "dude, i suck, you're so much better than me" is not quite adequate
mircea_popescu: so they proceed to spell it out over thousands of words, add drawings...
mircea_popescu: really give out their time and energy to make the point.
