kakobrekla: you at the conf yet?
pizzaman1337: not yet, I'll be going there soon. I think the "doors" open in about 45 mins. =
assbot: [BTCTC] [TAT.ASICMINER] 1 @ 0.019125 BTC [+]
parseval: I wonder how strong of a reputation I'd need to have to launch a securities backed loan site that lets borrowers put up shares as collateral and take out BTC loans from people. Kind of like BTCJam only everything would be 120%+ collateralized and borrowers could keep the dividends that accrue while their loans are active.
kakobrekla: i did that a year ago.
Namworld: Did it work?
assbot: [BTCTC] [ASICMINER-PT] 1 @ 1.900201 BTC [+]
kakobrekla: i made a few deals.
parseval: Use case: You want to go play the volatile MtGox market to capitalize on changes in btc price, but you also want to keep your AM shares intact and collecting dividends while you do it.. Pay a small fee and a percentage, then repay your loan within the terms paid. Collect back your AM shares plus dividends.
parseval: Well, I was thinking of making the whole process automated
assbot: [BTCTC] [PAJKA.BOND] 8 @ 0.1049 = 0.8392 BTC [-]
kakobrekla: nah, you dont get the dividends
kakobrekla: and share valutation is problematic
kakobrekla: esp with such as AM
assbot: [BTCTC] [TAT.ASICMINER] 50 @ 0.01925 = 0.9625 BTC [+]
kakobrekla: so i was only taking hash rate specified bonds
assbot: [BTCTC] [PAJKA.BOND] 23 @ 0.105 = 2.415 BTC [+]
kakobrekla: that way i could estimate the devaluation easier
kakobrekla: (yes preetymuch everything was devaluating on glbse)
assbot: [BTCTC] [ASICMINER-PT] 1 @ 1.9002 BTC [-]
parseval: Well, yeah, you _can_ get your divs back, if the system is set up to track them and pay them out. And volatility is a risk, but requiring a minimum 120% collateral would mitigate that somewhat and the lender would need to agree to the collateral and terms
assbot: [BTCTC] [PAJKA.BOND] 63 @ 0.106 = 6.678 BTC [+]
kakobrekla: ya well good luck finding people who will lend for nothing
assbot: [BTCTC] [PAJKA.BOND] 7 @ 0.108 = 0.756 BTC [+]
parseval: Not nothing.. they'd pay out an interest rate on the loan to the lender
assbot: [BTCTC] [TAT.ASICMINER] 69 @ 0.01925 = 1.3283 BTC [+]
parseval: Say 5% or whatever terms both parties are willing to accept. The borrower puts up the shares at X collateral, and investors can browse and pick which loans they want to fund
assbot: [MPEX] [S.MPOE] 4200 @ 0.00070029 = 2.9412 BTC [+]
ThickAsThieves: wrap in an escrow service
ThickAsThieves: ive been toying woth ideas
ThickAsThieves: with
kakobrekla: you must undervalue the shares correctly
kakobrekla: or else ill just default the loan if the shares go down
kakobrekla: and say fuck you
ThickAsThieves: thats the real issue
parseval: That's the idea, ThickAsThieves. I'd pull the BTC-TC shares to a third party account to lock them down, and take a 1% fee for facilitating the transaction
ThickAsThieves: it becomes a way to short
assbot: [BTCTC] [TAT.ASICMINER] 6 @ 0.01925 = 0.1155 BTC [+]
ThickAsThieves: personally i dont like loans
parseval: I'd probably add in some reputation items like OTC and BitcoinTalk forum name verification
kakobrekla: i took gigamining for a month or so loan, valued them at 60%, took the divs and asked for 1% on top of it.
ThickAsThieves: but there are lots of features for offering escrow
kakobrekla: issued a loan*
ThickAsThieves: issue with escrow though,
ThickAsThieves: is you csnt grow without humans
parseval: One thought I had was that if this could be marketed to the daytraders at Gox successfully, then they'd start investing some of that BTC into securities
ThickAsThieves: for arbitrating
parseval: hmm, good point on the arbitration. I'd have to figure something out about that to minimize the shorting aspect
ripplebandit_com: parseval what paltform would you do this on? ripple? open transactions?
ThickAsThieves: lol
parseval: bitcoin, probably with a 6 confirmation requirement for funds to settle
ThickAsThieves: who would you get to do ur ipo ? that TAT guy?

furuknap: Someone picked up 5 call options at strike ฿2.7 at BTCT during the night. Crazy times.
furuknap: Before that, there were three @2.1 with ~฿0.5 premiums.
mircea_popescu: lmao
furuknap: There are five puts for sale @1.75 with 0.15 premium. Balls is fine, this is just madness.
mircea_popescu: exactly how do btct options work ?
mircea_popescu: does someone selling a call at 2.7 own what exactly ?
furuknap: They own a share, sell an option to someone who can then buy that share at 2.7. For that, the buyer pays, in this case, 0.1, effectively paying 2.8 per share.
assbot: [BTCTC] [ASICMINER-PT] 1 @ 2.03999 BTC [+]
furuknap: Buyer wins if price exceeds 2.8 over the next X days. Didn't see how long, though, but the put I mentioned at 1.75 is on 28 days.
mircea_popescu: is that share locked then ?
furuknap: Yup.
mircea_popescu: and if someone offers a put at 1.75 is there 1.75 btc locked out of his account ?
Chaang-Noi: Am now worth more than $100,000,000 and dont forget about all the dividends paid out :)
furuknap: For calls is is locked. For puts, you have to put up escrow for full amount.
furuknap: Yup.
Chaang-Noi: Am = asic miner
BitHub: do you think we'll get to 3btc in a few weeks chaang?
Chaang-Noi: no
BitHub: or back to 1.5
mircea_popescu: awww why not.
furuknap: If there is any sanity in this market, 2.5 is far more likely.
Chaang-Noi: not unless the 200th is being deployed pretty damn quick
BitHub: i was thinking it would get to 2.5 before choking
Chaang-Noi: i could see 2.5 helpp we might get 3, people paided crazy prices for s.dice
furuknap: Doesn't matter if they deploy 200. They can't really grow much more without killing Bitcoin.
Chaang-Noi: killing btc? looool
furuknap: <furuknap> If there is any sanity in this market, 2.5 is far more likely. <I meant 1.5
furuknap: Yeah, killing by exceeding 51%.
Chaang-Noi: you realize they are selling units?
ThickAsThieves: 3btc is supportable
BitHub: is the selling units a ongoing thing from now on?
Chaang-Noi: yeah but in a few weeks, i dont know
BitHub: cool, check
Chaang-Noi: yes they are selling units, just email him how many you want
BitHub: plus they still got over 600btc worth of orders and that's only 1 group buy
Chaang-Noi: also 10,000 usb units soon
Chaang-Noi: they are selling the blades too

furuknap: First of all, the money you have now... Forget that you have it. It is gone and you will lose it. Just think to yourself that those are monopoly money that just caught fire.
furuknap: You will not stand a chance, and if you accept that initially, you'll get a lot further.
furuknap: Second, the asset markets work like this... There are two sides to every deal, just like in real life. There are bids, which are essentially people saying "I am willing to buy X shares for Y amount each". Then there are the asks, which are people saying "I have X amount of shares that I am willing to sell for Y amount each".
mircea_popescu: um
furuknap: If you think of this like a normal store, on the market, you are both the store owner and the customer, depending on whether you want to buy or want to sell.
WILLdude: furuknap: So basically I should just treat it as a football bet with an extremely unreliable friend? So I should think that I probably won't get anything whatsoever back?
furuknap: When you walk into the market, all the asks are people saying "you can buy from me at these prices". If you bid an amount that is higher than any of these people, that trade goes through.
WILLdude: Ah right.
furuknap: On the flip side, when you want to sell, you join the people, saying "I want this amount for my shares". If someone then comes in and says "I want to pay more than X for shares" then your shares are sold to them.
WILLdude: I get that now.
Chaang-Noi: wow, a n00b getting helpful advice in this chan, see something new every day:)
furuknap: Simplified, it is a lowest price first for asks, and highest price first for bids. In other words, if there are people in the market buying and willing to pay more than you then their bids are filled first if there is someone willing to sell.
WILLdude: This makes a lot more sense.
furuknap: Conversely, if there is someone willing to sell at a lower price than you and someone comes in to buy then their sales are done before yours.
WILLdude: One more question. What are PT-shares?
furuknap: There is a third thing here, which is extremely vital.
furuknap: DO NOT BUY ANY SHARE YOU DO NOT FULLY UNDERSTAND.
WILLdude: Right
assbot: [BTCTC] [ASICMINER-PT] 3 @ 2.07999 = 6.24 BTC [-]
WILLdude: I see. So make sure I understand what the fund does?
furuknap: Do you know how to fully evaluate the value of the share you have chosen?
Chaang-Noi: yeah, people keep buying my shares :)
WILLdude: Dividends, stability.
WILLdude: furuknap: What do you mean?
furuknap: If not, you do not buy. You sit down, you relax, you realize that good investments will be around for a long time, and the extremely profitable investments take a lot of time to find and understand.
WILLdude: Okay.
WILLdude: Should I sell what I have?
furuknap: I'm guessing you are rushing to get some Asicminer shares right now. Chill down for a bit and learn what makes ASICMiner a good deal. Understand how their revenues are generated. Understand where the dividends come from. Understand their expenses and market.
furuknap: Only you can decide whether to sell or buy.
WILLdude: Yeah, that's true.
furuknap: You should listen to only one person and that is you. The herd is not a good indicator, nor are anyone giving you advice in either direction.
WILLdude: I need to read up or ask about it more than i have.
furuknap: You do.
furuknap: Unless, of course, you enjoy the pain of losing money, in which case, just buy whatever has a nice ring to it and hope for the best.
WILLdude: I guess I'm panicking.
WILLdude: And predicting the price will go sky high soon and never come down to what it has been previously.
furuknap: Yes, you are, and that's usually when you lose money. There's no rush. There are plenty of great companies that will be around for a long time. AM may or may not be one of them, but you need to figure that out for yourself.
WILLdude: Yeah.
furuknap: The added benefit of this exercise is that even if you find out that you should have rushed in right now, by waiting and learning, you will be better next time, and there will be many next times.
WILLdude: Ooh
WILLdude: I think I kinda just need to stop being so optimistic about stuff.
furuknap: Optimistic is fine. Desperate is not.
WILLdude: All this stuff seems hell to try and understand.
WILLdude: I think I'll ride with my 6 shares for a few weeks.
WILLdude: Thanks for saving me a shitload of money and disappointment.
