Framedragger: (they're part of online.net, their peering is decent (though i've not used them much) http://map.online.net/ )
Framedragger: meanwhile the fella in question starts saying "he was too *tame*", and (sic) "in soviet times the guy would have had it so much worse!!" (with glee, etc.) (i don't know, this is kinda kusturica-like to me)
Framedragger: i recognize the middle of the three cops there who is (of course) the dude who did the tazing. he tells the shouting poor fella to calm down and that "they will change their mind when this happens to them". then grunts something and is dissatisfied obviously.
Framedragger: meanwhile the most senior cop is chatting with my friend who has trouble discerning words due to said shouting. at one point i hear "wasting our time" (of course). the youngest of the three cops there comes to us, says "men, thank you very much for your help", and kinda extends hands to push us away (but no physical contact).
Framedragger: the cops react slowly and uncertainly; not so with the poor fella sitting and obviously overhearing. "dudes! you what - what the fuck now. i was *attacked*! five hundred euro watch! [something, etc.] and you want to *defend* this guy??"
Framedragger: cop arrives, shouts something like (i think) "where's the watch?!!", there's maybe half a sec of a pause (guy's arms still in the air), then the guy is thrown onto the ground, cop takes out a device and tazes the fella who in turn bellows in pain. i start filming (but all too late as it is with these things).
Framedragger: kinda scrawny guy running not far from us, a cop chasing him from a distance. guy turns a corner, then suddenly stops, turns around, throws his hands in the air, and maybe thrice shouts clearly: "i'm sorry", "i yield". we wait.
Framedragger: oh btw, saturday night while walking around town (vilnius) with two other peeps i stumbled into a scene:
mircea_popescu: lol. i'm off to bed. discussions tomorro!
ben_vulpes: asciilifeform: it'd have been done by now if i could have.
trinque: deedbot's reliably connected. I am fine with just feeding phf logs if he wants.
mircea_popescu: BingoBoingo i dun see what's interesting in there ?
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: You should have referred to them as hedges. Instead you called them "green hell" and as you live in a swamp I assumed the worst.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i must confess that i do not see the appeal of poisoning my hedges instead of trimming.
BingoBoingo: <covertress> i don't know if you've heard or care but, my network was attacked http://cryptohustle.com/krypton-recovers-from-a-new-type-of-51-network-attack << made it to qntra http://qntra.net/2016/08/not-quite-news-roundup-xtend-3-tmr/

mircea_popescu: ben_vulpes i don't.,

mircea_popescu: cuz i left it on cuz it was going to be a one minute thing yesterday. damn it.
mircea_popescu: danielpbarron lol at buttcoiners, "oh, look, bitcoin does exactly what mp said it likely will back in 2013, i wonder how come and what gives".
shinohai: no ben_vulpes i have a fix per mircea_popescu 's suggestion !~
mircea_popescu: i heard. actually iirc alf pointed out to you teh reading material, as to the unsustainability of the thing.
covertress: i'm entertaining suggestions to prevent a recurrence. adding addl hashing power and/or forking to a POW/POS hybrid are my only solutions, atm.
covertress: i don't know if you've heard or care but, my network was attacked http://cryptohustle.com/krypton-recovers-from-a-new-type-of-51-network-attack

mircea_popescu: though it goes well with his complete disinterest in you know, a brothel. i suspect even if he had had a "hot sexy girlfriend", she wouldn't have necessarily known it. prolly more hand-in-handwalks than handjobs on his menu.
mircea_popescu: male shyness is actually quite common, in all mammal species, and also with womans. if i had a satoshi for every historical case where the poor mother in law had to stick her worthless son's penis into some girl by hand, i wouldn't even be poor.
diana_coman: I'm still waiting to get to his view of how they called the police/why
diana_coman: I suspect he would find *that* too much too
diana_coman: I don't think it has to do with changing him
mircea_popescu: mayhap only a woman would see that in there. i can't readily discern what part is in the painting and what part is in the natural "i'll change him" eye of the beholderess.
mircea_popescu: i dun see that. you mean, "what to do" as in, how to arrange the curl on forehead so girls finally behave properly ?
diana_coman: similarly one second he is supposedly totally and absolutely disgusted with his father (ftr I don't know who wouldn't by the sounds of it) and the next second he makes friends again because... he has been asked to by his nan
diana_coman: and for all his supposed knife, all he does is to pour coffee or juice on people, I mean seriously
asciilifeform: i always picture her as a great beauty.
diana_coman: asciilifeform, the guy with the crate seems to miss the "but I was SO worthy, how did the winning ticket DARE to choose someone else"
asciilifeform: it is common today. i personally witnessed a man having bought an entire crate of tickets.
diana_coman: ftr what I find more mind boggling is the degree to which nobody around him actually has anything to do really and I mean first his parents; at least from his account all they do is to throw at him money above what he can in fact handle; in one view I could almost frame this as poor kid got thrown into a station so much above himself that the difference between what he *knows* he is worth (nothing) and what he has been forced t
asciilifeform: this incidentally is not a necessary element. the other rodgers i know of, did not exhibit it.
mircea_popescu: the process is evident throughout, "lottery exists, therefore it must have a winner. i am great, therefore i must win it."

asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: this is the meaning i learned in school
mircea_popescu: i'm sorry, enormity.
asciilifeform: it is worth mentioning that i am a connoisseur of subj, since the performance of mssrs. harris & klebold, yet the showing of rodger was so lackluster that it slipped my attention entirely in '14
asciilifeform: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-08-28#1530649 << interesting imho detail, that i think mircea_popescu also noticed - at no point is mr. hero seen to envy chix ☝︎

BingoBoingo: "I tried to ask him why he was overreacting about an argument we had two months previously, but he just glared at me coldly and told me to ”keep my proximity”. I was highly offended." << Shoulda stuck it in James' pooper when he had the chance
BingoBoingo: If gabriel_laddel's stimulant habits didn't seem so threatening to the sobriety there might be an offer, but I doubt he'd approve of my rural spider hole.
gabriel_laddel: mircea_popescu: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-08-26#1530024 < I'm flattered, thank you. ☝︎

asciilifeform: i suspect that it actually... dissolved.
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu's knife (i also had this knife) or my saw from 2 wks ago, these made sense, the mechanical forces on the atrocious dried snot from which they were made, were formidable
asciilifeform: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/31knpB4IfKL._SY355_.jpg << this.
mircea_popescu: oh i thought you meant the actual floating device
asciilifeform: re chinese engineering, i had a float valve, of the usual type, in toilet - EXPLODE the other day
mircea_popescu: i very much doubt there will be a signle employable engineer graduating from ivy league this year.
BingoBoingo: "James became deeply disturbed by my anger. I wished that he wasn’t disturbed. I wished he could be a friend that felt the same way about the world that I did. But he wasn’t that kind of person. He was a weakling." << Twu Wuv
asciilifeform: text contains multiple 'and then i went to this empty street because saw girl there once'
asciilifeform: i could see'em positioning themselves as prospective gauleiters for chinese repo crew.
mircea_popescu: i don't think you understand how this works.

BingoBoingo: "On weekend nights, I took a few shots from my vodka bottle and set out on walks around the town, desperately hoping that I would stumble across some opportunity to make friends. I often ended up sitting alone at some café, hoping girls would talk to me before I sobered up." << Doing it wrong. SHould have drank the whole bottle.
asciilifeform: re the capacitors, the chinese story is a lie of omission, i've been swapping caps routinely in hardware made since 1990 or so.
asciilifeform: i shit thee not.
asciilifeform: 'We can sometimes see decades-old capacitors (such as ones made in the USSR) still working. They are bigger and heavier, but durable and not desiccating. Modern aluminium capacitors serve for about 11 years, if you are lucky, then become dry and quietly fail. I remember early 2000s devices where capacitors failed after 3–4 years of service, and not necessarily low-end devices (one example is E-TECH ICE-200 cable modem worth ∼ 240
shinohai: > is command until I can apply lobbes fix
danielpbarron: the command character is still being sorted out i think, and ! also triggers gribble who apparently still takes orders even though muted
BingoBoingo: ~later tell pete_dushenski You would be pround to know I am now that asshole who brings his own oil to quick change place and tips the labor.

BingoBoingo: ;;later tell pete_dushenski You would be pround to know I am now that asshole who brings his own oil to quick change place and tips the labor.

asciilifeform: i dunno that it even makes sense to attempt rigorous def of this 'identity', at least in any more detail than we define 'earth's crust' -- 'the layer we can drill without the drill melting'
asciilifeform: i was referring to identity in the psychiatric, rather than mathematical sense.
mircea_popescu: i do, but to quote myself, "Grecii sunt scutul, nu sulita, ca de obicei exact altfel, exact invers, exact pe dos decat ne asteptam noi, in convingerea noastra ca i-am inteles. Si ca de obicei, au dreptate."
