asciilifeform: i can picture some schmuck in casa rosada going, roughly, 'догоним и перегоним америку !'
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform sometimes i suspect you might have been the only one at your kindergarten :)
mircea_popescu: and since it's been mentioned, let it be said i'm rather suspicious of this fuhrerprinzip business also. nazis WERE socialists, by their own lights, and the fact that they desired a matriarchy stylistically irreconcilable with the matriarchy in power in england does not make them men, or respectable.
mircea_popescu: (and for bonus lulz - according to THEMSELVES, the pashtun are jews. unlike the people you and i know as jews, who are idiots, the good jews from afghanistan heard of the last prophet and sent envoys to muhammad.)
mircea_popescu: well i dunno about that. the point being, if two works purport to describe items that can not be distinguished, it then stands that the two works are about the same thing.
mircea_popescu: what he does is the very americansky "i buy old books and rewrite them in my own hand, nobody'd ever know"
trinque: I'm aware of the latter
mircea_popescu: not in the slightest. i daresay there is not one thing that originates with the curtis yarvin fellow.
asciilifeform: 'As you know “the international community” is denouncing Russia’s use of bunker buster bombs as a war crime. There is a rebel video on you tube examining the hole made by a bunker buster. Looks like the bomb blast went through two meters of concrete to blow up inside a bunker. Somehow I doubt that you will find all that many civilians under two meters of concrete inside a bunker. But I rather suspect you might find a few memb
trinque: Framedragger: I had old school thinkpads; I was mocking your implication that it meant anything about whether the hardware was diddled
Framedragger: i can imagine. i mean.. laggy audio on 2ghz cpu because multiprocess OS
Framedragger: i'd really like that
asciilifeform: the 'msdos way' to do audio was the sane way - 'what i write to this-here-address comes out the DAC immediately.'
Framedragger: i guess that's not "mixing"
Framedragger: (in one of his talks karmack did complain that (something like) "it's still ridiculous that i can send a packet to another continent than i can send a click to my sound card!" - basically, multiple middlware layers are involved and it's a bit.. stinky. but at least one can stick to a good API and reduce the headache..)
Framedragger: which is something i'd like to avoid; but if i can't - then i guess it's still the best thing available
Framedragger: thestringpuller: yeah you're totally right and i really like the api - it's nice! it does seem that to make sure everything incl hrtf works on a person's PC it needs to be installed to system dirs and then linked dynamically as folks had problems with static linking; and apparently for windows the 'proper' way to do it is to first install creative's openal version, and *then* install openal-soft on top
thestringpuller: I mean you don't have to use opengl for graphics just use openal's coordinate system on top of SDL
Framedragger: (was afk.) (i guess it's unavoidable to a point because e.g. you need to somehow pass down complex scene info (not only sources and listeners but also obstacles for occlusion/reverb) into a low-level api)
thestringpuller: oh wow this shit still exist. I did this tutorial in high school circa 2003/2004: http://www.gamedev.net/page/resources/_/technical/game-programming/programming-3d-sound-with-openal-in-windows-r1958 << its for windows but I think you can translate to linux p. easily
thestringpuller: i think with openal (iirc) you can drop sound to emit from a location like a light source on 3d map
Framedragger: the -soft fork of openal seems very decent enough. i was hoping for something high/lazy-level for graphics so i don't have to deal too much with it (it'd be just 2d shapes anyway, no textures etc, super simplistic), and lower-level for audio so i can mess around with it. openal-soft as of now best contender
Framedragger: thestringpuller: pyglet for prototyping (yes yes python & graphics wtf), later - i do not know, i considered unity for prototyping, too (fat thing, that, yes). for ease of sake, very likely sdl for graphics and events, but not set.
Framedragger: (i'm in an energetic mood today, teenage mode = collateral damage)
asciilifeform: i prefer working in a lit room
Framedragger: i too learned to type in was it 3rd grade :p but the light is aw3some. seriously tho, yeah it's not powerful at all
Framedragger: i actually like to have a sticky note near palm to scribble upon. in the dark
asciilifeform: i had several boxes with this lamp, imho it is monumentally useless.
asciilifeform: works, as far as i can tell, for the self-importance monkey riding on his back.
Framedragger: (and lenovo published their own 'Lenovo LSE Windows Disabler Tool'). [sorry i'm sure this is in the logz - i'm behind on stuff..]
Framedragger: (still not sure if that rootkit is basically same as superfish. the latter is just in software as i take it; the former is a lenovo superduper software update solution which can download the latter(?) and resides in BIOS which is scary)
Framedragger: asciilifeform: heh. i think i recall. pity i didn't properly *read* about it. guess time to corebios the fuck out of that laptop anyway
Framedragger: tbh i wouldn't expect anything truly shady out of x220. i just didn't try any switches yet
Framedragger: asciilifeform: i don't know how it works internally in x220. if i wanted to make sure to not have wifi, i'd remove / physically disconnect the controller, of course..
a111: Logged on 2016-10-20 10:17 Framedragger: http://log.mkj.lt/trilema/20161019/#291 << tbh i didn't check. does it re-enable after hw switch is toggled? what distro/OS do you run? i could check how it is on my end on that machine (prolly tomorrow, not today)
mircea_popescu: and in today's installement of "i am a jew and an idiot, hear my butt tearflow", https://archive.is/tJj1I
trinque: Framedragger: ah and here I thought he wanted the wifi to stay off!
Framedragger: http://log.mkj.lt/trilema/20161019/#291 << tbh i didn't check. does it re-enable after hw switch is toggled? what distro/OS do you run? i could check how it is on my end on that machine (prolly tomorrow, not today) ☟︎
asciilifeform: http://btcbase.org/log/2016-10-19#1556881 << i must point out, much as i have 0 luvvv for these folx, that this was a forced move. clim is ugly and dog-slow for what i suspect are fundamental reasons . ☝︎
ben_vulpes: i'm going to have to start collecting statistics.
AforA: read about the book...romanian? talk about synchronicity, I was just reading this guys work, and it seemed relevant to the point about domain invalidation from V: http://fs.gallup.unm.edu/florentinsmarandache.htm. hm. and as to answer your question mircea: the non-log part being absorbing the website.
thestringpuller: BingoBoingo: After doing a bit of gardening this weekend, and the science thereof, I'm a bit disappointed in the all the "cool kids" who made fun of the "Horticulture Kids"
asciilifeform: and then tearing out chunks of it as i nuked'em
asciilifeform: lulzily, i did end up printing it personally
mod6: asciilifeform: heheh, i thought some guy was gonna print the book for you?
mod6: fwiw, at face value, i like it.
mircea_popescu: i think he might just be overrun by irl.
mircea_popescu: a pity too because i really liked the graphing
jhvh1: asciilifeform: I have not seen mike_c.
mircea_popescu: AforA i'd certainly give a look at the result of trying to shove the whole 100mb log into that graph thingee ; because even something relatively simple like say MY wot looks like http://www.btcalpha.com/wot/user/mircea_popescu/
AforA: joined myself to IRC first, orienting now. ;) my thinking right now to deal with that amount of data is to shove the entire logs into infranodus.com, but that'll get reevaluate before; after I'm done reading the non-log part :)
AforA: I came here from loper OS. holy hell, wow. I've been wrecking my mind about something awfully similar for /months/ now and only now found this, good lord
gabriel_laddel cannot deliver this masamune machine until the wifi works and wtf am I missing here
phf: mircea_popescu: i'm not telling him what to do either; i sometimes rant alongside asciilifeform, but i don't actually think gabriel_laddel should be doing something differently.
gabriel_laddel: mircea_popescu: I will be, but as of yet have not even googled for a guide on how to do so.
mircea_popescu: uh. i thought you measnt actually hosting the channel.
phf: gabriel_laddel: franz have been living in frontline foxholes since before you knew what a computer was, i don't think masamune is there yet to judge their methods
mircea_popescu: BingoBoingo nah ima do the one where marisa tomei is a stripper next i think
gabriel_laddel: I have nfi, just saw that they utilize a cffi at some point. I interviewed at franz and talked with them about it (this is why it was released?) -- they have no vision and I consider anything they touch to be tainted.
phf: gabriel_laddel: have you explored clim2? i'm curious what state it's in. i want to at least try and spin it up on ACL to see how bit rotted it is, what it looks like, etc. i vaguely suspect it might be better clim baseline than mcclim
trinque: and let me know when your IRC is up; I'll be joining.
gabriel_laddel: Oh I see. ty downloading.
gabriel_laddel: you too see the end game, so I'm happy
phf: check your pm, but since that's a public question, i'll also answere here. i'm not going to go through work of releasing of logger in the immediate future, but i can dedicate some time to making sure logger can attach and track multiple channels, host masamune logs for you. this is aligned with a cleanup work that i was going to do, and i might as well do it next
gabriel_laddel: phf getting some linux boxen from which to host the #sane-clim / #masamune irc channel + logs either this friday or the next. Any chance you'll be releasing the logger at some point so that I don't have to write my own?
phf: i'm now explicitly removing query message from results, which i think produces most appropriate counts
mircea_popescu: i wrote some code to make the life of eulora players more confusing. i spent half hour writing it and one hour fighting fence errors.
mircea_popescu: i have nfi. take out a banner in front of ucla ?
trinque: don't ask me; I give shotgun shells to unwanted visitors like any gentleman.
asciilifeform: trinque: i thought texas was a 'empty kalash into breaking door' state..?
BingoBoingo: Oh, no I mean the physical butt bleeding happens at Union thug schools, because the wider world is merging with the world of James Lafond Presents Baltimore
mircea_popescu: as if i actually give a fuck how many dicks it can or does take.
mircea_popescu: somehow i'm supposed to take umbrage to brothel-living tween who can't do basic math ; but i'm supposed to see no problem whatsoever with school-going tween who can't basic math. because reasons.
mircea_popescu: i suppose because it's by now evident they aren't.
asciilifeform: i would dearly love to meet said 'kids'.
asciilifeform: there is a titanic volume of drivel on subj. it is just that. none of any of the schemes i know of, is good for ~anything.

BingoBoingo: <mircea_popescu> btw BingoBoingo i submit something like "troubled hrc fundraisers despair of ever receiving support from bitcoin, comically look to ven in desperation" or such for the next roundup (sauce http://btcbase.org/log/2016-10-18#1556416 ) << AHA, it's a firm mebbe for next one. Didn't fit flavor of recent electoral one. ☝︎
shinohai: Yeah, hence I don't want to screw up a good thing lol by submitting trash all the time
shinohai: I'm actually tired of Qntra'ing it all

shinohai: I was just about to say, it is obvious they will make a pseudo scientific effirt at creating a "cryptocurrency"

Framedragger: i suspect it wouldn't be optimal in my case. i want ticket tags and stuff. dependency graph is of course nice.
Framedragger: adlai: i've looked at it and i like it. i haven't used it!
Framedragger: (man, i am in dire need of multi-tier TODO lists (sorted by urgency and other things). my TODO text file is a mess.)
BingoBoingo: OMG that has to be the highest ratio of arm fat storage I have ever seen.
ben_vulpes: tangentially tangentially, i dunno about these headlights, baby. i think i need to take 'em out and rattle them around for a few hours before i trust the connectors and re-seating job fully.
ben_vulpes: heh topic of i'm trying to sell a third of my civic to my business partner in exchange for a very large turbo and his time installing it
mircea_popescu: and i don't need a wire. i'm just using the wire to loosen headcunts.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform no i know.
mircea_popescu: that's what i'm saying. make a fucking proper lcd alrerady, who the fuck heard of this crt-emulated-in-lcd
trinque: if there's no video card, I assume there is just an area of ram currently being used as such
trinque wants to understand why asciilifeform balked when I said draw-circle goes and alters that framebuffer
