_vulpes: well, fwiw that question doesn't quite make sense from postgresql perspective either :) since your actual choice is to store decoded byte array in a BYTEA, decoded number in NUMERIC or original hash in CHAR. integer won't fit an entire hash, since it's 4 bytes.
