mircea_popescu: anyone seen this before ? ☟︎
mircea_popescu: so i had a router fail it the most amazing manner overnight. it powercycles - turns on, blinks the downstream connections for a second, then power goes off, then back on again. it doesn't look analog at all, like failing power lines, but very much a time-precise cycle, almost as if it's being flooded (which it isn't) or getting whatever magical packet in a loop.

asciilifeform: the degenerate cases where f == m for some m are annoying but interesting on account of the implications -- there are 3prime debianized mods in there!
asciilifeform: if factor f appears, it follows that it 1) divides some mod, m 2) was not previously in list of factors known to divide some mod, m

shinohai: We have a mattress store that does that here, though I did get a nice Sealy there during going-out-of-business sale #4672
BingoBoingo: Was a bigger thing in the 90s
BingoBoingo: Around here it tends to be flooring shops hawking "liquidation" carpet... until they do inevitabily tell the truth about "last" sale.
mircea_popescu: BingoBoingo turning into a pretty decent scam, like those ny jeweler shops "going out of business"
BingoBoingo: So a venture called "Smartisan" was this year's late donor "saving" Openbsd

asciilifeform: it is great isp for obscure crackpots like asciilifeform, as there is no time charge
asciilifeform: Framedragger: it ain't ever running a gossip node or anything that isn't apache for that matter
Framedragger: amazingly as you said tho, it's ran your wp for 10 years which is just fine.
asciilifeform: it mostly likes to serve static html pages, wordpress barely worx (they give you 1 postgres instance)
Framedragger: i guess you are implying a non-centralized tmsr dns, in which case one would still need to route via ip. but there could also be tmsr dht, nodes would gossip about where's key holder A hosting his site B, etc.. but not sure
Framedragger: re tmsr dns, in principle don't see why not - it could just as well just update quite often. but not sure if gossipd is taken into account (but then not sure about ip stack either, so..)
asciilifeform: it's a last-century pure cgi thing
Framedragger: ah. well those are not always needed
asciilifeform: Framedragger: i unfortunately cannot recommend it any longer, because it is guaranteed to be incompatible with any attemp at 'tmsr dns' or similar
shinohai: More in the worx, juggling those, trb, and eulora mods.

Framedragger: ahh! that. those i heard of. they have a nice pricing-by-the-byte system, too, iirc
asciilifeform: it was/is an ancient isp thing

pete_dushenski: there are worse things than 100% uptime
asciilifeform: it is the only net thing i have ever touched that worx like the gas line to my house, or like analogue 'pots' phone
asciilifeform: i am loathe to move it, because it has ~100% uptime even under full bore slashdot circa '08, and costs ~0.

pete_dushenski: Framedragger: edmonton recently added a similar set-up to its longest bridge (now suicide-safe! as per http://www.contravex.com/2016/02/24/dont-jump-here/) but with maybe a half-dozen colours and programmable designs. it's actually pretty romantic when it has soft, warm, yellows flowing like the northern lights across the river valley during the long cold winter lights, but the system is readily abused for
shinohai: I forgot there is also an !isup command too ala old gribble
shinohai: pete_dushenski: will be sure it all gets included in next gpgram. and thx for update, cheers!
Framedragger: here in glasgow, there are a few bridges which are lit up with these sorta-monochromic red/green lights, it's nice in the beginning but looks boring after the first five minutes of you being in town. from there on it's sorta obnoxious..
pete_dushenski: ya not bad at all eh. the light projection tech is certainly coming into its own. far more appealing and less obnoxious than all the led lighting mussing up building exteriors too.
Framedragger: there's a ridiculous "rusted pipe" art installation somewhere not far from that spot, it's pretty derp
Framedragger: pete_dushenski: o pretty nice! didn't know that thing was in place there. (my hometown!)

pete_dushenski: shinohai: a remiss is me. i missed jhvh1's latest pgpgram and ben_vulpes' wotpaste scarfed it before i could get to it. damn my meatspace life, log skimming, and ben's aggressive magic numbers!
asciilifeform: they'd neutronbomb it and blame on tongo if they could.
mircea_popescu: in other news nobody cares about, the us&friends decided the leaking of civilians from mosul is more trouble than it's worth, sealed it off, will proceed to butcher the remaining and blame isis for it.
mircea_popescu: lol wait, because if you think libtards are ridoinculous you must be insane ?
BingoBoingo: And in reality tv "A well-connected Kanye source tells us Kanye’s psychological problems are significant enough so that his insurance policy — which covers lost profits and financial obligations for cancelled concerts due to illness — will almost certainly cover the losses for the 21 concerts he’s cancelled."
