mircea_popescu: somehow they're also insulated from the "isn't it strange, you seerm to know what you're ostensibly not knowing" problem. through wishing they were, because that works irl!!1
mircea_popescu: mats or perhaps more properly put, "anti-known", in the sense the tards pretend not to know.
a111: Logged on 2017-04-16 03:49 asciilifeform: the 'mules' piece i read, and wondered why it does not discuss the people actually fucked by cc fraud (vendors) and instead dwells on the people not-fucked-at-all (banks)
mats: same fella is also known for debunking an earlier attribution to assad for the 2013 damascus attack, disputing israeli claims as to 90% effectiveness of the iron dome (discussed here iirc), and pissing on the effectiveness of the patriot pac-2 system in 'desert storm'
BingoBoingo: Clearly Puntin needs to redirect Assad to this dire threat
mircea_popescu: old man watching tv.
mircea_popescu: pretty much the consensus afaik.

BingoBoingo: mats: None I know about, and no specifics on that application. It will however allow for greater effective dosing than continuing 800 mg ibuprofen
mats: no updates re: esp8266, don't have time for it but i'll cough up the coin if someone wants to try a bulk purchase and play with one
mats: asciilifeform: sadly no. still on the five year plan.
mats: in a prior piece, the authors do mention the disproportionately large burden that small bidnesses have, as their losses aren't covered by 'Regulation E': https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/everythingYouKnow.pdf
asciilifeform: mats: didja ever become a reverser like you wanted to ?
asciilifeform: typically there is not a separated 'mule', e.g., 'amazon' is the mule.

mats: some things i've run into during my leave that i thought you folks might find a passing interest in:
BingoBoingo: I don't see topical diclofenac on that list!
asciilifeform: dun have to be 'computing', but conventional keyboard - yes
asciilifeform: afaik only the last one worx
mats: i've tried sleeping supine, slathering bengay, eating ~800mg of ibuprofen, splints, setting 30min interval alarms when i needa type continuously for hours, and giving up computing after hours -- has helped
asciilifeform: i'd much prefer to try a device that doesn't pick up voice of america

asciilifeform: incidentally i'd be curious to hear if anybody's ever seen a dieharder output on something that isn't a prng or prng-whitened trng, that consistently produced no 'weak'.
jhvh1`: BingoBoingo: Time since last block: 4 minutes and 2 seconds
mod6: ok thx!
asciilifeform: i tested in batches of 7.
asciilifeform: it takes, what, a day.
asciilifeform: also i recommend to test every unit, aha
mod6: I'll test all of my other units in this same fashion too.
mod6: anyway, just wanted to be /sure/ that I wasn't getting some sort of varient test results from the dh.
asciilifeform: same as if you ran ent twice
mod6: The only entire difference in the two runs was the rands/second at the top.
mod6: I re-ran the dh on the same fg.bin file (~1.2Gb) and the 'WEAK' tests were exactly the same ones, with exactly the same output values.
asciilifeform: mod6: tested one unit only ?
asciilifeform: ftr no fg ships that reports a fail, or a 'weak' in any test consistently (2+ 1G runs.)
mircea_popescu: yes but prolly this should be reviewed.
asciilifeform: NOW if it happens with all of the units in mod6 's parcel, and ~every~ run -- then problem.
asciilifeform: mod6: certain % of the time, test 'weak' and , rarely, 'fail' ( simply means that author of dh decided that given result falls out of uniform distrib. range.)
mod6: i may dig into that more at some point here.
mircea_popescu: no idea why the rgb lagged sum should fail. would have to read the code.
mod6: So in total from the dieharder: 112 PASSED, 2 WEAK
mod6: Ima run the dieharder again as `dieharder -a -g 201 -f fg.bin`, and see if I get the same results.
mod6: # The file file_input_raw was rewound 194 times rgb_lagged_sum| 31| 1000000| 100|0.00000479| WEAK
mod6: # The file file_input_raw was rewound 118 times rgb_lagged_sum| 23| 1000000| 100|0.00063764| WEAK
mod6: <+mircea_popescu> lol the 4-5 places where dieharder reports weakness prolly need some review of dieharder code. anyone feel like emailing the maintainers ? << I should note, I hope the pics of this arn't too misleading. if you like at the actual text output, there are only 2 'WEAK' tests, which are:
mod6: diana_coman: thanks, yw!
diana_coman: I really enjoyed reading this account of unboxing and testing the FG; thank you, mod6
mircea_popescu: lol the 4-5 places where dieharder reports weakness prolly need some review of dieharder code. anyone feel like emailing the maintainers ?

asciilifeform: ( the difference between 'fuck around' and r&d -- is that you oughta have some notion of what you're doing; and take notes. that way, directional, ratchet, rather than brownian walk.)
mircea_popescu: i thought point here was to fuck around.
asciilifeform: point of toggle, is the simplicity
asciilifeform: definitely not a low-tech item tho, quite a bit moar complex than plain old analogue rng
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform incidentally in the same vein : everyone's probably familiar with the electronic muscle contractors from forced orgasm / workout footage. but the equivalent item excists as detector not efectuator. put on girl, fuck her, voila. "this is the key of your passion, honey."
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: we almost live in that world -- tobacco is in some place so 'hot' that you can take 'autoradiograph' of it, plain old film, no xray lamp
asciilifeform: ( incidentally -- FUCKGOATS worx ok (if very slowly) with toggles instead of analogue rng modules. )
mircea_popescu: no i mean, it copuld be in sf world the case that cocaine has K in it and nothing else does or w/e such sane reason.
asciilifeform: i imagine it'd be a bottle of cocaine and a toggle. you give cocaine to aficionado, then give him the toggle, to press.
mircea_popescu: "i'm only buying it for the articles!"
asciilifeform: because will get through no post office.
asciilifeform: the funny bit is, in usa you can generally buy, e.g., actual uranium oxide (not by the kg, but can buy, easier than, say, gunpowder.) but it'd be quite useless for ~mass~ rng.
mircea_popescu: "how to turn bed, bath and beyond into a reliable supplier of uranium pellets" by alf the beedog.
mircea_popescu: im sending the nuclear waste crew towards end of april ?
mircea_popescu: you can prolly find it if you care to run a netstat or such
mircea_popescu: anyway, i expect whoever is trying to make botnet via ssh bruteforce uses these via whatever pore ; pw changhe won't do much.
asciilifeform: in other lulz, box from which ssh bruteforce all day, http://62.75.216.148 << shows live footage from... a church, and 0 text
mircea_popescu: pretty sure if you go offline for 2-3 days google drops the listing

asciilifeform: that was mechanical disks, when, iirc, taiwan flood
asciilifeform: a 300 $ ssd could easily turn into a 30,000 $ .
asciilifeform: before the koreans burn.
asciilifeform: speaking of hdd, now is probably not bad time to load up on ssds, if you use'em in any qty.
asciilifeform: i bet it goes great with the dying hdd bird
mircea_popescu: i have this cicada on the wall sounding exactly like my fan is going out on the wind-up phase.
asciilifeform: i went out to the swamp and tried to tell this to the frogs, the cicadas, dun seem to have worked.
mircea_popescu: anyway, to round up the previous thread : do not imagine you can enact yourself through saying. that magic dun work here.
mircea_popescu: did i mention i am having a very excellent time reading trilema logs ? because i am.
asciilifeform: 'i forgot moar maths than you ever learned, maggots' (tm)(r)(prof. b)
asciilifeform: asciilifeform has degree. it is in a cardboard tube, in a broom closet, with mops, pans, old pcbs.
mircea_popescu: this is what the piece of paper certifies. "person is to a large degree wilfully blind to sense to satisfy imperial conventions."
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform all graduate heads work like that.
asciilifeform: you can transform bytecode liquishit to whatever language, fortran, basic, if you like
ben_vulpes: i'm halfway curious about the cl it poops out
asciilifeform: what the fuck is the point of running a cl runtime so as to run llvm bytecode ?
asciilifeform: ok, looks like they are there so that 1) clang can build them to llvm bytecode 2) emulator then runs same.
asciilifeform: what is 'This is a quick hack of Quake ported to the Simple DirectMedia Layer library' doing in there ?
asciilifeform: what is sdl graphics library (c) doing in there ?
