mod6: so here's what we'd look like after we add all of the new makefile+configuration files+directories via the 'test-layout.vpatch' & a 'test-v054-REL-wLayout.vpatch' to tie it all together:
mod6: hi Azelphur
mod6: heh, you can't 'diff' or 'vdiff' an empty dir though, since it skips those -- but not if you have a file in the dir. we've been through that before also, just kinda forgot.
mod6: http://dpaste.com/29PS53E.txt
mod6: V with the latest changes { post-press hash checking & use .wot/.seals in pwd } seems to press a new vpatch containing new dirs + files within (where the vpatch has no antecedents) -- this is only a test
mod6: <+asciilifeform> in usa - about same as trucker << just heard a commercial; Dominoes is paying $75-$80k for over-the-road CDL drivers day and night routes.
mod6: Thanks again for posting your report & corresponding patch. Great work.
mod6: http://therealbitcoin.org/ml/btc-dev/2015-December/000186.html << re: footnote [2]; jurov, maybe this was the issue I ran into -- i'll have to try this.
mod6: pete_dushenski: hey, got your msg. thanks for updating your blog. much appreciated.
mod6: ;;bc,stats
mod6: totally nothing. i actually kinda like these.
mod6: <+mircea_popescu> heh, i suppose that's the strongest indictment for the soviets ever : can't fucking distinguish 50s from 80s looking at the pictures. << yeah, whenever i see these older pics, I can't tell if its 30 years ago or 60
mod6: and its worthwhile to point out the db locks thing is separate
mod6: http://therealbitcoin.org/ml/btc-dev/2015-July/000120.html
mod6: different patch though
mod6: + if (fVerifyAll || (!(fBlock && (nBestHeight < Checkpoints::GetTotalBlocksEstimate()))))
mod6: - if (!(fBlock && (nBestHeight < Checkpoints::GetTotalBlocksEstimate())))
mod6: punkman: ya
mod6: Sorry that it's confusing and not super easy to follow, just hoping to make your cool historical timeline a bit more accurate. Salud!
mod6: here's the original posting of that: http://therealbitcoin.org/ml/btc-dev/2014-December/000024.html
mod6: it was this patch that overcame that issue: bitcoin-v0_5_3-db_config.6.vpatch
mod6: And this statement is not accurate: ``With the “rm_checkpoints” patch, the wedge issue at Block 252450 was overcome.''
mod6: read this section: [ Tabling of Checkpoints Patch ]:
mod6: ;;later tell pete_dushenski Although I posted this patch in December of '14, it was quickly tabled by February -- and I wrote about this in the SoBA: http://therealbitcoin.org/ml/btc-dev/2015-February/000041.html
mod6: ;;later tell pete_dushenski Hey, thanks for starting to write up some of this stuff. I aught to point out at least one thing: 'Checkpoints excised by Shane Kinney'
mod6 will think on it.
mod6: maybe a dumb idea. and maybe it can't be easily modified to do that.
mod6: i make plenty of errors that I don't want to chisel into stone. :]
mod6: sometimes, a guy just has to derp around
mod6: well, i thought we didn't want to send up all farts into the blockchain. ☟︎
mod6: Don't wanna make more work, just curious.
mod6: trinque: could deedbot be easily copied and modified to just have variable paste retention into a webdir or db of some kind? it wouldn't send to the blockchain like deedbot. then we could just have our own `pastebot'? is this dumb? ☟︎
mod6: oh is that all
mod6: punkman: any idea how long clbin will hold these pastes?
mod6: yup. no sweat. just wanna stay on top of the V changes, so I can get to the many R.I. things :]
mod6: i'll test a bit as I said and then re-publish a new one when complet.e
mod6: ok cool. my latest patch should do just that.
mod6: and also noteworthy: `curl -s https://clbin.com/IidZ7 | xxd | grep "0d0a" | wc -l` returns 0
mod6: https://clbin.com/IidZ7
mod6: cool
mod6: <+asciilifeform> has anybody here written own 'pastebin' ? << we desperately need this.
mod6: anyway, i'll keep testing on this for a bit and see how it goes. and if all is well, i'll repost the entire thing (including the few changes to the automated tests) to the ML
mod6: first
mod6: all: btw, if you do use the above test patch for V, please remember you may need to run a dos2unix on the dpaste [dpaste.com/12M99KB.txt]
mod6: but.. yeah, a separate thing that could be fed for this purpose would be super great
mod6: well, the ML has a place - although, the filename munging would be nice to go away.
mod6: yeah, we need something for that.
mod6: ah, gotcha
mod6: oh.
mod6: just have to tell it to draw the graph again.
mod6: <+asciilifeform> speaking of which, we still need a thing where folks can drop in vpatches and sigs and redraws the flow graph << mine does this.
mod6: :]
mod6: vpatch also declares this at the top.
mod6: 11ece4221d6264bef4e17805e549f686b575142227aff9a00cd379110ccfcc56096a5b6924c9f614c2c6823bd687f876142b115b0d30da17c237e663deb04f11
mod6: If you add the above patch, you should end up with:
mod6: here's the hash for v99997: 0810eb4c7209900b3eb7b96fc7b9bfa437360581586e7d073ebc4f2cf88f13f2cafe9340ef5b8953dc43b288e4f74da3d7973998755466252225b5103c72bb99
mod6: http://dpaste.com/12M99KB.txt
mod6: ok so i changed the changes: .wot and .seals in the present working directory, unless specified otherwise. Also I've added the checking of the hashes post-press. **EXPERIMENTAL ONLY** Will post new, signed version [v99996] once fully tested.
mod6: yeah, the documentation says that you need to 'create a ~/.wot directory' -- which will have to change, but 'you need to create' is the hint in there.
mod6: ok, No, the .wot dir must be created by hand.
mod6: like Mr. P. said, there is no way I'm gonna be able to keep up with all of the feature requests here as well.
mod6: someone is gonna have to take over V
mod6 looks at cod.e
mod6: maybe it just doesn't pull the keys any more.
mod6: errr. wait.
mod6: we've been through this.
mod6: its not
mod6: Any thoughts there?
mod6: mircea_popescu: going back to the .wot dir being created by default in the `pwd` of V : I would think that perhaps .seals should go in the same place as well; `pwd`. ☟︎

mod6 wonders if he'll have to buy trainloads of coal one day
mod6: yeah
mod6: ya, makes sense. sucks if you can't afford to buy the coal or what not
mod6: 'NPPs require power all the time'
mod6: i had to laugh at that last orlov
mod6: thestringpuller ^
mod6: was this started from a /clean/ env or is this trying to load up a blockchain from christmas past?
mod6: weird.
mod6: ok. hmm.
mod6: i looked for 'environment' in the code -- didn't find any relevant matches as far as I can tell: http://dpaste.com/1QDGFPN.txt
mod6: <+thestringpuller> db.log has one line >> 'unable to join the environment'
mod6: im not sure what this is about:
mod6: should do the trick.
mod6: `LC_ALL=C ./bitcoind -datadir=/path/to/.bitcoin -myip=127.0.0.1 -connect=173.73.235.152 -verifyall &`
mod6: or !
mod6: `LC_ALL=C ./bitcoind -myip=127.0.0.1 -connect=173.73.235.152 -verifyall &`
mod6: bah
mod6: once you have a 'bitcoin.conf' in place in either ~/.bitcoin or '-datadir' with an 'rpcuser' & 'rpcpassword': `LC_ALL=C ./bitcoind -myip=127.0.0.1 -connect 173.73.235.152 -verifyall &`
mod6: s/git/get/
mod6: thestringpuller: did you ever git your bitcoind up and going?
mod6: mornin'
mod6: heheh
mod6: oh.
mod6: *shrug*
mod6: hm. i like what it does, but not every turd probably belongs in the chain.
