mod6: let me see if I can make sense of it and say it back:
mod6: i think you have the same idea as i've been pondering...
mod6: mircea_popescu: yeah, for sure. i reading though the above here...
mod6: Makefiles will also solve alf's complaint about "shouldn't pull these from the web at all."
mod6: one caveat here, I want this to be the last release of the build script -- so I don't wanna do any heavy lifting here. Would rather put such effort into the makefiles instead.
mod6: So, a clearsigned manifest that holds the URL and the SHA512 that I attest is correct then, deedbotted?
mod6: So was thinking a clearsigned manifest could do the trick there.
mod6: I'm a bit hesitant to "sign" a file outright that I don't have carnal knowledge of -- say openssl - at least without a disclaimer that says "I am only confirming the SHA512 of this artifact is ABCDEF1234... This does not mean that I have read that code and it ``fits in head''."
mod6: I could create a clearsigned manifest that could reside on deedbot.org that could be also pulled down, verified and used.
mod6: they are not signed at this time. the build script in its current form, will pull the dep from deedbot.org and check the SHA512 against what is hardcoded into the script. if it matches, we continue, if not we die.
mod6: give 'em hell
mod6: Salud!
mod6: Will provide further updates on the makefiles project as I have them. Stay tuned.
mod6: ^5
mod6: 65
mod6: or maybe that was lastnight. either way.
mod6: great work! i build mine on gentoo, and seemed to work good this AM.
mod6: As far as the Makefiles are concerned, we're having good success there (other than the remote sites for the deps), and will probably be making the same deedbot.org updates to that as well.
mod6: If anyone wants to test this along with us, let me know. Will provide you a link. Want to ensure that it works well before we deedbot the new build script.
mod6: So I've updated the forthcoming V99994 to pull these from deedbot.org as opposed to their respective places out in the tubes.
mod6: trinque was nice enough to host all four of the deps that we require on deedbot.org; openssl, bdb, boost, and buildroot.
mod6: so last week buildroot's site was down (for about a day) and currently the dang sourceforge site doesn't seem to be allowing curl to grab the boost lib.
mod6: shinohai: hey thanks for giving that a try!
mod6: ^
mod6: Not a bad idea.
mod6: Hot chicks? If one is lucky.
mod6: There's maybe a few congregating spots dedicated to art, et. al. here where I'm at. Probably in most places.
mod6: This year, the anniversary of the declaration is on Election Day in the US. lol. We should go and stand in places and read this outloud like they used to do after the signing in 1776.
mod6: not far off!
mod6: yeah.
mod6: o7
mod6: (hopefully tomorrow)
mod6: more to come...
mod6: build with makefiles worked fine.
mod6: build is running now. looking good. will update again in here when that build completes.
mod6: trinque: yeah!
mod6: building via makefiles from pressed wild makefile.vpatch ... so far so good...
mod6: so just built V99994 build script on gentoo, werks good.
mod6: but off to a good start.
mod6: either way, a bit more work to do here.
mod6: anyway, it could be arragned both ways: 1. we hand out a bundle of makefiles - you make, you get a bitcoind. 2. you get V, you press your own thing, then you make the makefiles as you wish.
mod6: same with V iirc. anyway, gotta check that part out a bit more.
mod6: the latter would build the full orchastra, and i believe (although haven't tried yet) you can simply place boost, openssl, and bdb in the 'shit' directory by hand to avoid downloading of deps from a remote site.
mod6: One would have to either, pull down /just the makefiles/ and build .. OR pull V, sync against the mirror (or place patches in by hand), then press, then build the pressed dir (which also pulls patches depending on what is set in the makefiles themselves)
mod6: It's a bit circular though.
mod6: I'm currently in the process of V-ifiying these now. Which actually, passed one test just fine.
mod6: shinohai: im also running the new V99994 build script with the updated openssl url now actually. as well, the makeflies (the original ones from trinque) work as long as it contains the updates that I put in for the lastest versoin of V.
mod6: so, trust me, as soon as I have something, you'll be the first to know.
mod6: and I worked on the makefile thing over the weekend. i'm getting there.
mod6: I have a new V99994 in testing as I type this.
mod6: <+asciilifeform> ;;later tell mod6 'curl -s http://openssl.org/source/old/1.0.1/openssl-1.0.1g.tar.gz' << weren't we gonna stop doing this ? << didja read the SoBA? ☟︎

mod6: <+shinohai> I have tomatoes and peppers already ala mod6 << last year I did bell peppers and habaneros. Only the habaneros did alright. This year made room for Eggplant, Pumpkins, Watermelon, Red/Green Cabbage, Cucumbers (large & small), and Broccoli.
mod6: Everything else is getting there too.
mod6: BingoBoingo: ah, thanks for the q. No, didn't plant anything. Raised up my lettuce (romaine), it's over 36" tall now. Watered everything. Zucchini's are getting big. Tomatoes are still green but coming along...
