mircea_popescu: ben_vulpes the saga continues (and also, you have what looks like a stranded > right after the "leave your comment" heading)
ben_vulpes: mircea_popescu: appreciate the continued scrutiny, will respond tomorrow
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform obviously the question becomes : should ave1 complete the 0-footprint eucrypt wrapper, can the next nsa product be a push-button decryptor -- specificaly a usb-like stick with a button, which produces a decrypted.filename for every filename found on stick at button push ?
mircea_popescu: should self-populate with a key by contact with a fg, and should be able to readily destroy the key.
mircea_popescu: slightly but essentially different through hard earned intangibles aka experience.
mircea_popescu: (re the above fg, it ain't for sale ; we'll eventually make a new batch, but it isn't a high priority yet.)
mircea_popescu: so basically ima have to make a new nsa to make the item in question ?
mircea_popescu: idea is for it to be a push-button stick, so you can !!v from internet cafe without worry.
mircea_popescu: the whole idea of 0-footprint is to have something you can unroll into iron.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform im surte it does, which is why i bring it up.
deedbot: Guest45857 voiced for 30 minutes.
Guest45857: hello, i would like to ask about trezor security. in your opinion is safer a properly air gapped computer or specific hardware wallet like trezor?
Guest45857: tried to navigate through logs but nothing relevant found about it
mircea_popescu: yes well, let's not confuse the inept products of idiots with the broader categories. trezor is a specific piece of shit, not something as lofty as "a hardware wallet".
Guest45857: so i assume is considered crap. Asking this cause i've one and i was thinking to be on the safe side. Should i discard every hardware wallet or is there something significantly better than trezor?
mircea_popescu: there is not at present anything significantly better ; and it is crap. not a matter of it "being considered", it is sheer crap, provedly so, on its own factual record of usage that it won't face or consider, let alone theoretical consideration by people who (unlike the rank imbeciles involved in its production) actually understand the world.
mircea_popescu: shouldn't you have been already aware of this ? if the "trezor" wasn't patent medicine, that is ?
Guest45857: thanks for the article. I'll do my due diligence swapping storage solution asap
mircea_popescu: i might propose to you that perhaps the more pressing problem isn't how you store your coin but how you populate your thinking table ; but i suspect you are already well aware.
mircea_popescu: and in breakfast suggestions : slice homemade bread, spread aguacate on it, flake smoked trout atop the aguacate, cut sweet red onion on top of the trout, serve with a mug of leche agria on your balcony of splendid views.
mod6: mircea_popescu: Can I get your opinion on this quick regarding the Charter for Pizarro?
mod6: Awesome, thank you!
mod6: hmm. i dont think so?
mircea_popescu: but since we're on this, i suspect the lack of readout bot is the principal bar to bvulpes log adoption ; not that i expect you gas at this juncture
mod6: ah, yeah, it's slightly more grey than the others. stars here: jurov: ben_vulpes: and the foundation loan == Stock Warrant #1 in pizarro's report?
ben_vulpes: it works everywhere but trilema, sadly
mod6: let me link, one sec.
mircea_popescu: mod6 the usual terminology re shares is "subscribed". the reason has to do with history. the way business has worked (mostly in italy, which is where it was invented, five centuries ago) was that 1. some people got together united by their recognition of a solution to some problem ; 2. that then evaluated the costs of implementing such solution (often the case -- the cost was to outfit a ship and the problem was "there's no s
mircea_popescu: pices in the ferrara market"). this then was called the "authorized capital". 3. the item was then circulated (among the savy, the l2 of the time) and all those interested in participation wrote their name at the bottom of the paper (subscribed, or underwrote. the term is still used in insurance, very much in this sense).
mircea_popescu: then as the preliminaries were done and the thing was starting to move capital was "called up", ie, joe you underwrote 10`000 shares, now's the time to pay up so and so moneys.
mircea_popescu: and from thence to this day, shares are subscribed, then their capital is called up and paid.
mircea_popescu: so something like "pizarro incorporated, issued 1`100`000 shares with a par value of 100 satoshi each, subscribed by mod6 (500`000) ; asciilifeform (500`000) and TBF (100`000)" would be more in the regular form of these things.
mircea_popescu: this aside -- you certainly can also have the foundation simply hold a convertible debt ; but bear in mind that it can't possibly hold a seat on the board until such a time as it converts that bond and gets shares.
mircea_popescu: it's also a confusion of layers to name employees in the charter. what happens if you decide to hire ben_vulpes' son to manage it eventually, recharter ?
mircea_popescu: and since we're doing history lesson : the reason the option is called "CALL" is because of its functional equivalence to the... calling of capital for subscribed shares. basically what you're selling there is the... right for someone to... CALL the cash equity as if the share had just been subscribed. you "resubscribe" it so to speak, it's a fictitious revirgination of the holy mother.
mircea_popescu: much like the reason dollar bills are called BILLS is because banks came up with the bright idea of selling... bills to themselves. you know how if you go to the restaurant and eat there, they bring you a bill, which you oblige yourself to pay ?
mircea_popescu: JUST SO, the bank ~sold~ people bills to itself. if you pay the bank $5, you get in exchange... a bill for $5, that you can give to the bank, as if the bank had sat in your restaurant and ate $5 worth.
☟︎ mircea_popescu: literally, you're buying from the bank the putting of the bank in the position of having eaten in your restaurant.
mircea_popescu: (in this discussion, the $ stands for the dollar, which however denotes the taler, a weight of gold (or perhaps sivler ? highly contentious matter at the time, this), not fictitious lincolnite bs.)
mod6: Thanks for outlining all of this.
mircea_popescu: incidentally asciilifeform, how are we getting the nsa boxen over to uruguay ? you feel like taking a trip ?
BingoBoingo: The prime window to take trips is before the end of this month when summer ends and the tourism allegedly disappears.
mircea_popescu: it's about the same, 1200ish +- 100 via panama if bought 2-3 weeks in advance
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Prime as in the country expects guests coming for the beaches, and there being the tourism infastructure turned on in case you want to do some sightseeing.
BingoBoingo: Otherwise I am told it gradually gets colder, windier, and wetter. Like a Latino London barely lucky enough to avoid snow.
mircea_popescu: then again locals' notions of what constitutes coldness show a clear innocence of the arctic.
BingoBoingo: mircea_popescu: It is a fine degree less innocence than say... the Brasileros
BingoBoingo: Brasileros break out the heavy coats when night temperatures fall below 20C, the Uruguayos tend to use lighter jackets and give it a few more degrees 16-18C is when their low temperature reactions get triggered.
mircea_popescu: then again there's that scene with teeny bopper chicks at the north sea, on the "beach", wind so cutting i was glad for my greatcoat. im sure it's in the logs somewhere but beyond 5 minute's search.
BingoBoingo: Ah yeah, the girlie reactions to the cold depend on sirve o no
BingoBoingo: Aha, photo from a few weeks ago, taken for that reason.
