Tritonio_: has anyone used colored coins to sell equity or anything like that?
ezdiy: Tritonio_: its way too alpha to be used for srs biz

assbot: [HAVELOCK] [HIM] 1 @ 2.23 BTC [-]
Tritonio_: As an answer to some of mircea_popescu problems in the article: You could still have centralized exchanges. The difference would be that you can take you assets anytime out of the exchange and move them to another one to trade them there. That solves the blockchain spamming, the delays, the easy of use issues.
benkay: the ecosystem around 'em ain't there yet
benkay: but they're a bril idea
ezdiy: Tritonio_: no point arguing that
benkay: it might be good for equity stakes to be less-than-instantly liquid
mircea_popescu: i dunno why people feel the overpowering need to recreate poor solutions for solved problems
benkay: but at that point just sign some papers
ezdiy: in that ricardian contracts are ok for centralized exchanges
ezdiy: decentralized is kinda way too new
benkay: we can try it in a decade or three
ezdiy: nah, implementations are already there
benkay: but honestly why bother?
mircea_popescu: how about a decade or three after citizen dentistry becomes the norm.
ezdiy: but verification it will scale, wont suddenly fall apart etc is not
benkay: you gotta gain the trust of people somehow to legitimate your biz-mod
mircea_popescu: finance is a matter of having the fucking people competent in finance.
benkay: exchanges are a good way to do that
benkay: it's be a neat thing for a bunch of nerds who own shares in an REIT to pass them around

ezdiy: only market indexes of individual colors are
benkay: will you send me my s.dice shares?
benkay: under my name, on mp's exchange
ezdiy: dont bother benkay :)
benkay: i was thinking a symbol representing them, cryptographically signed to me

mircea_popescu: i completely fail to understand what you're after here
mircea_popescu: the problem is absolutely and completely solved and you're like... hitting yourself in the head with the solution.
benkay: what do you claim is the MPEx equivalent to the printed piece of bs i get from pepsi?
ThickAsThieves: he wants a share that is independent of mpex yet honored
ezdiy: benkay: the ricardian ledger is actual proof of ownership though
mircea_popescu: or, if you prefer, a signed push receipt to some designated acct.
mircea_popescu: this is in numerous ways better than the p2p ledger thing.
ezdiy: benkay: but the vendor lockin and hoops will be always there, not just on mpex
ezdiy: its same everywhere
mircea_popescu: look, if there's enough people like you you can actually make a special mpex account,
benkay: i don't want paper though, i want a cryptotoken I can send to someone else
benkay: what i want doesn't matter
ThickAsThieves: not to be a turd, but mpex has shown in the past that it does not provide actual receipts of purchase, only confirmations of purchase orders
ezdiy: ThickAsThieves: are other exchanges any bether?
ezdiy: ThickAsThieves: they just pt each other
mircea_popescu: ThickAsThieves you know, between (mpex, nasdaq) it's nasdaq that most recently rolled over trades.
ezdiy: i think mp is the only one bothering with actual signed proof of purchase, on bitfunder its like row in a database which is much worse
ezdiy: its true you dont directly the shares
benkay: market mechanics around p2p exchanges are going to be silly and decades away if ever extant
mircea_popescu: you don't "directly" own any sharesd in the entire history of equities
ThickAsThieves: i agree that the state of proof of ownership on other exchanges is certainly questionable
ezdiy: doing it different way would be too burdensome on issuers
jborkl_: you are going to give mp a stroke

davout: kakobrekla: sierrachart is something like metatrader ?
davout: kakobrekla: (pardon my ignorance)
davout: like a client you connect to your broker ? (or directly to an exchange? i'd imagine not)
BitHub: there are heaps of peeps working on software like that tho for cryptos
kakobrekla: this is fun: We see that the MTGox data feed is not entirely reliable and also from an engineering perspective, its technical implementation really is very confusing and not well structured. They are using what is called a web socket and then on top of that Socket I/O . This is unnecessary and the method by which this is implemented is not technically correct. So we are not very impressed with the MTGox data feed. This is just a comment.
davout: interesting, so it's sierracharts itself that collects the feed from mtgox
kakobrekla: not sure what their implementation will be exactly
kakobrekla: i mean if they will proxy it or no, im guessing they will
davout: relying on the mtgox ws feed sounds like folly
kakobrekla: anyway you will be able to trade from it somehow apparently
