pigeons: well i
think
the wiki shouldt cater
to
the few fringes who have an issue with centralized currency
Luceo: Well, I
think
the wiki is better off accomodating
the majority of its users
than a few fringes who have a personal issue with CAs :/
dub: shoot
the system monkey
that got it wrong, load another from spares
dub: all
this is ireelevant anyway
pigeons: and i decide none of
them are. i
trust individual fingerprints. yes
there are challenges
to
that, but we're working on
them. al ot better already
than using networks solutions or comodo
Luceo: Whatever
the browser moguls are supporting right now
Luceo: It's irrelevant which issuer you use as long as
they're a valid root CA
Namjies: Browsers should not pop such a warning for self-issued certificates. Really sends
the wrong message
to users.
Luceo: OK, get a geotrust one
then...
pigeons: mircea_popescu: it is a valid stance. why cant
they offer ssl? why cant people use it?
pigeons: only
things you
think should be private should be private?
pigeons: if you
trust
the fingerprint of
the cert its not broken. i dont
trust any comodo certs
Luceo: And
they can get a Comodo cert
Luceo: I mean fuck, I'll donate
the $10
pigeons: well for one cause you login
to edit, so your credentials can be stolen, for another for privacy
Luceo: But if its going
to use it, why not get a StartSSL cert or PositiveSSL for $10?
Namjies: Firefox doesn't pop me
the warning...
mircea_popescu: i went
to
the wiki in
the browser and firefox popped
the warning
mircea_popescu: listen
to me.
today some lawyer guy i work with sometimes asked me a bunch of q's about bitcoin
Namjies: You have
to use
the same
thing, except browsers will warn users about your self-issued certificate.
pigeons: i don't use
their certs for issuer
trust
mircea_popescu: pigeons why use
their certs if you don't agree with
their definitinos ?
Namjies: Well, anyone wishing
to sell F.GIGA.ETF before
they get delisted at
the end of December?
pigeons: i mean regarding dub.
the ssl cartels and browser makers' definition of valid isn't
the only valid one
jurov: ^^^they say it
themselves
jurov: The use of
this site is for educational and entertainment purposes only.
jurov: Every asset issuer receives a daily email showing who is holding
their assets.
This allows
them
to move
their virtual operation off
the site
to anywhere else
they might choose.
dub: wtf is
this .co I keep seeing
thestringpuller: send me money so I can send overpriced stamps
to my family back in europe
thestringpuller: if i was an industrialist I would be idle during
the day and batman at night
mircea_popescu: on
the long
term you're better of buying an acct now
than later
jurov: i suspect mpex will celebrate it by finally raising
the fee
to 50btc
gribble: Estimated
time of bitcoin block reward halving:
Thu Nov 29 04:58:28 2012 UTC |
Time remaining: 1 week, 2 days, 6 hours, 30 minutes, and 0 seconds.
thestringpuller: or just do puts on aapl right as
they announced
the iphone 5
mircea_popescu: i was
thinking, what a genius move. buy aapl in btc, six months later aapl is -40% in usd,
the usd is -50% in btc... you've made a great investment
jurov: yea, have hard
time
to decide between
tits and boobs
jurov: as everyone knows, sirens are
the symbol of safe navigation :P
jurov: right after
the "navigating
the waters of btc securities safely" motto right below
the mermaid
thestringpuller: thanks for explaining mircea_popescu, i feel as
though I'm one of
the ignorant kids sometimes
mircea_popescu: if you expect
the price
to NOT go up significantly you sell a call.
mircea_popescu: if you expect
the price
to NOT drop significantly you sell a put
mircea_popescu: if you expect
the price
to go down significantly, you buy a put.
mircea_popescu: if you expect
the price
to go up significantly, you buy a call.
thestringpuller: so what if you expect
the price
to not move much you sell an option?
thestringpuller: so if you're selling some product Y for bitcoins, and you expect
the price
to drop, you buy puts
thestringpuller: for instance if you buy puts as insurance
to doing business with btc
thestringpuller: mircea_popescu: is
there any point in buying options if
there isn't a big swing
thestringpuller: i'm gong
to make a bitcoin money laundering service called bitlaundry
smickles: eh, not really, but remember i pointed out
teh 1% gain possible
smickles: ^ re: < Namjies> Has anyone brought
the stocks arguments yet? With example such as
the $10000 Microsoft stake bought at IPO example?
pigeons: lol at people
telling
the compulsive gambler he should
try willpower and what he needs
to do is "just say no"
mircea_popescu: ya well not all
this spam is worth
the mention i'd
think.
Namjies: The accusation is a fact. If what you're accused of is
true is not a fact.
Namjies: You can say something is anything, and
then go around saying
that something has been accused of
that anything.
Namjies: I don't see any problem with
that saying.
mircea_popescu: well by
this measure Bush was accused of being a reptillian
Namjies: Which is,
technically, very
true.
Namjies: But in any case,
the article says Bitcoin has been accused of being a ponzi... not
that it meets
the definition of a ponzi.
mircea_popescu: i don't
think many people give
two shits about wikipedia
Namjies: Has anyone brought
the stocks arguments yet? With example such as
the $10000 Microsoft stake bought at IPO example?
mircea_popescu: in fact
the situation
this month where calls got wiped is singular, never happened before.
Namjies: especially for
the ones expiring next month
Namjies: But not much compared
to all
the bids available
Namjies: That people don't sell into
them. I barely see any volume.
mircea_popescu: "An estimated 84 percent of coinstar users are women". Not going
to comment on
this one.
Namjies: I don't see why
those PUT bids stay around for so long
mircea_popescu: (if
the price drops you lose on
the puts but can buy
the btc cheaper. if not you make btc)
mircea_popescu: selling puts is a pretty reasonable way
to protect yourself if you have $ and want btc.
Namjies: Well honestly, I'd always feel much safer going with selling PUTs for over
their execution price
Namjies: A good net against a price drop and if price stay stable or raises with reward halving,
the margin could increase.
Namjies: There's
thousands of bids for puts with 0.05 - 0.15 BTC over
their current execution value
Namjies: With
the reward halving coming up
mircea_popescu: he's not even so bad in
the hole, coupla hundred btc big deal. he can make
that in a month.
pigeons: just started, still
testing
