mircea_popescu: "Operation Atlantis was a project, headed by Werner Stiefel, developed with the intent of establishing a libertarian country on international waters. The operation set out to do this by launching a ferro-cement boat into the Hudson River in December 1971 which was piloted into an area near the Bahamas. After reaching its destination it eventually sank in a hurricane"
mircea_popescu: "Principality of Freedonia is a “new country” project based in Houston, Texas; founded in March of 1992 by the 13 year-old John Alexander Kyle and a group of his friends."
truffles: such a creative person who made it
truffles: something random like a motorcyle might take u out then
truffles: unless u live a dangerous lifestyle, most of us will live a long time heh
Chaang-Noi: but in the end it worked out, however for a while.. not so sure
Chaang-Noi: yes, started a company, sold it to amazon then went to school
Chaang-Noi: we are a hard working bunch, not really caring about govt regulations :/
Chaang-Noi: yeah i started young and have worked hard in the past, had a company that did well and really did a lot of investing, i will enver have to work again (unless i do something stupid)
Chaang-Noi: boxes were light and i got to use a high powered stapel gun :)
Chaang-Noi: i worked at a neon sign plant, and made boxes for them to put the signs in
mircea_popescu: have 6 a year or something.
mircea_popescu: Chaang-Noi maybe when i'm a little older, build a harem get the girls knocked up
mircea_popescu: that aside, they often have a point.
mircea_popescu: aaanyway, these technicalities aside, i think you're the youngest guy here by a fat margin. good for you.
WILLdude: My sister has become a prefect now, and she obviously has a lot more aptitude than I.
mircea_popescu: you're an almost 13yo with a history on wikipedia ? teh wow.
WILLdude: I used to do a lot of wikipedia ing
WILLdude: mircea_popescu: Take a wild guess at how I got one?
mircea_popescu: but iirc you used to sign in with a wikipedia/W-D cloak. how'd you get that ?
Chaang-Noi: well, dont risk more than you can afford to lose, btc can break or the exchagne can be robbed, there is always a risk you lose everything
WILLdude: Uhm. Options 2,3 are a bit illegal.
furuknap: Just take a walk, have a beer, fuck that nice girl down at the library, and while you're there, pick up a book on investing. Don't forget to read it.
furuknap: I may also have cost you a shitload of money and caused disappointment, but if you just calm down, at least you'll be informed in the end.
WILLdude: Thanks for saving me a shitload of money and disappointment.
WILLdude: I think I'll ride with my 6 shares for a few weeks.
furuknap: Yes, you are, and that's usually when you lose money. There's no rush. There are plenty of great companies that will be around for a long time. AM may or may not be one of them, but you need to figure that out for yourself.
furuknap: Unless, of course, you enjoy the pain of losing money, in which case, just buy whatever has a nice ring to it and hope for the best.
furuknap: You should listen to only one person and that is you. The herd is not a good indicator, nor are anyone giving you advice in either direction.
furuknap: I'm guessing you are rushing to get some Asicminer shares right now. Chill down for a bit and learn what makes ASICMiner a good deal. Understand how their revenues are generated. Understand where the dividends come from. Understand their expenses and market.
furuknap: If not, you do not buy. You sit down, you relax, you realize that good investments will be around for a long time, and the extremely profitable investments take a lot of time to find and understand.
furuknap: There is a third thing here, which is extremely vital.
furuknap: Conversely, if there is someone willing to sell at a lower price than you and someone comes in to buy then their sales are done before yours.
WILLdude: This makes a lot more sense.
furuknap: Simplified, it is a lowest price first for asks, and highest price first for bids. In other words, if there are people in the market buying and willing to pay more than you then their bids are filled first if there is someone willing to sell.
Chaang-Noi: wow, a n00b getting helpful advice in this chan, see something new every day:)
WILLdude: furuknap: So basically I should just treat it as a football bet with an extremely unreliable friend? So I should think that I probably won't get anything whatsoever back?
furuknap: If you think of this like a normal store, on the market, you are both the store owner and the customer, depending on whether you want to buy or want to sell.
furuknap: You will not stand a chance, and if you accept that initially, you'll get a lot further.
mircea_popescu: ahah we need a bash.
WILLdude: Maybe because I made a bid higher than the last.
furuknap: Thirs time I'm saying that in a couple of days. Have to remind myself. I'm freaking out right now.
BitHub: if they do that for a month i think 3btc seems very doable
Chaang-Noi: yeah but in a few weeks, i dont know
BitHub: is the selling units a ongoing thing from now on?
BitHub: do you think we'll get to 3btc in a few weeks chaang?
mircea_popescu: and if someone offers a put at 1.75 is there 1.75 btc locked out of his account ?
furuknap: They own a share, sell an option to someone who can then buy that share at 2.7. For that, the buyer pays, in this case, 0.1, effectively paying 2.8 per share.
mircea_popescu: does someone selling a call at 2.7 own what exactly ?
BitHub: 3btc a share, here we come :/
Chaang-Noi: i doubt china really gives a fuck that he is exporting the btc he made
ThickAsThieves: I think they have a plan
furuknap: Here's one thing that slightly bothers me. AM still hasn't reached their 50 th yet. I'm confident they will. However, if they are just holding back for not reaching 50%, that'll mean a whole lot of buzz when they do deploy additional hashing, despite the ratio of total not increasing by a percent.
furuknap: Which would be nice, because AM is a great buy at ฿1.3.
Chaang-Noi: "Im going to say it. I have a target of 10BTC for Asicminer before fall. 5BTC within 30 days." lol
ThickAsThieves: youre gonna be saying that for a while
ThickAsThieves: for a while
ThickAsThieves: thx but its a blessing and a curse
inhies: i dont see a reason to have it that integrated.. like wtf depends on it that much?
blehg: websocket on the order books is awesome, beats the hell out of btct's cached orders from yesterday showing up -- freaked me out a few times
furuknap: I hate the Bitfunder site. Takes almost a minute to load the first chart for me and I can't get myself to trust that two-site thing with wee exchange.
furuknap: Yeah... I have a red SF bridge on sale too. You send first.
furuknap: Why not buy anything. A strike of 2.7? That's confidence or stupidity at a level I have not yet seen.
furuknap: Wow. Someone just picked up a Call with strike ฿2.7 on BTCT.
cole_albon: are there any step-by-step instructions on how to exercise a call on mpex?
furuknap: https://www.litecoinglobal.com/security/BUY-A-HASH
furuknap: Buy-a-hash got listed on LTCGlobal last night (my time, or around 6 hours ago) it seems. Anyone read up on it?
parseval: It's a script doing that. Notice it always updates within 5 minutes
Chaang-Noi: wow a bid at 1.9798
Chaang-Noi: yeah... i did a fair bit
kakobrekla: its not like theres a contract made
blehg: hope it takes a couple of days to break 2.0
furuknap: I can almost time visits to my article with sudden price hikes in AM. I'm saddened by the amount of people that don't heed simple advice and just throw money into a game they apparently do not understand. No wonder why casinos make a lot of money...
furuknap: Yeah, a lot of bruised feelings will probably make that happen unless they cough up.
furuknap: I'm starting to wonder whether that "How to buy AM shares" article was a huge mistake.
furuknap: If they sell and appreciate all those bees this week, there's going to be a lot of blood.
ThickAsThieves: they also have a potential 20k coins in usd miners selling
parseval: Yep... a lot of people will assume it's all from mining and will continue every week
parseval: I think a few people might be in for a letdown when the next dividends come back with less than this week due to reduced hardware sales
ripplebandit_com: it's actually a serious question. Ive got an mpex seat, and would like to resell it like coinbr
parseval: bitcoin, probably with a 6 confirmation requirement for funds to settle
kakobrekla: issued a loan*
kakobrekla: i took gigamining for a month or so loan, valued them at 60%, took the divs and asked for 1% on top of it.
ThickAsThieves: it becomes a way to short
parseval: That's the idea, ThickAsThieves. I'd pull the BTC-TC shares to a third party account to lock them down, and take a 1% fee for facilitating the transaction
parseval: Well, yeah, you _can_ get your divs back, if the system is set up to track them and pay them out. And volatility is a risk, but requiring a minimum 120% collateral would mitigate that somewhat and the lender would need to agree to the collateral and terms
parseval: Use case: You want to go play the volatile MtGox market to capitalize on changes in btc price, but you also want to keep your AM shares intact and collecting dividends while you do it.. Pay a small fee and a percentage, then repay your loan within the terms paid. Collect back your AM shares plus dividends.
kakobrekla: i made a few deals.
kakobrekla: i did that a year ago.
parseval: I wonder how strong of a reputation I'd need to have to launch a securities backed loan site that lets borrowers put up shares as collateral and take out BTC loans from people. Kind of like BTCJam only everything would be 120%+ collateralized and borrowers could keep the dividends that accrue while their loans are active.
KRS1: we must look like a bunch of chumps to the rest of the world
parseval: Maybe something combining %pricechange and volume so we can visualize velocity a bit better
parseval: I still need to add in flags for the dividends, and maybe make up some candlestick charts. Oh, and a USD->BTC comparison
parseval: I think I need to work on those charts a bit more, people seem to like them
mjrIII: just hung out with erik a bit
truffles: seemed to have toned it down a tad bit
parseval: Speaking of which, my workday's done. Be back on in a bit
