mircea_popescu: i get 1.04 and 1.24 must be you made your calc at earlier weight ?
pgp2: so I bet 2 BTC to return either 1.05 or 1.26
mircea_popescu: did i get it backwards still ?
pgp2: if I bet 1 on yes AND on no I will win either 1.05 or 1.26
pgp2: assume I bet on both sides
pgp2: I get that, but decaying by 5 orders of magnitude seems extreme
pgp2: hey mp, why do you prefer to decay the weight (or allow originator to set the decay) for bitbet? I've been doing some analysis and it really creates a heavy skews favoring early betting.
mircea_popescu: this is what i'm saying, things are what they are not what some dood gleaned from 15 minutes of skimming wikipedia.
mircea_popescu: what offends me is this "i am a teenage cock with no experience whatsoever

kakobrekla: Starting a trade site? > I have two domains available to me, so it only makes sense to use one for trading.
mircea_popescu: kids often do this, "what if i were the emperor of Rome" or "what if i was the only person in town" etc.
Doffx: I wish I was able to help you more Luke-Jr but I honestly dont understand it.
Doffx: I seem to get more in Bfgminer then

Doffx: GBT has been around a long time, even when I started 2 years ago
Doffx: I see that after reading the wiki
Doffx: Because of how fast they getwork I think
Doffx: No Gh, mainly because I know they only really work with Stratum pools
ThickAsThieves: doffx, i assume you eant TH
kakobrekla: hey gavin i lost 100k ... can i has?
Doffx: I haven’t seen anything about this new protocol, is there a post about it someplace?
Luke-Jr: kakobrekla: I intentionally designed the new protocol so that it SOLVED the pooled mining centralization problem
kakobrekla: its what i do!
Doffx: err slightly more, my reason was well.. I am greedy to a point?
Doffx: I used it but it felt like I was losing BTC doing so, there were so many other options that made me slight more
mircea_popescu: Doffx i wonder why that is.
Doffx: I dunno p2pool seemed good but no one uses it, decentralized mining.
mircea_popescu: i don't like pools because basically they fuck up the entire point of mining
Doffx: I dont care what it looks like, I just want TH speed
ThickAsThieves: kako, if you make an ltc pool i'd move there :)
mircea_popescu: i hope all pools go bankrupt tbh
Doffx: Although I do agree it seems like we need some more new choices
kakobrekla: i cant belive im saying this but theres space for new pools
mod6: oh i guess this graph in thumbnail form looked like a lot closer to 50%: http://blockchain.info/pools?timespan=24hrs

mircea_popescu: well i dunno, forum full of ppl conspiracytheorizing
jcpham: well if we're talking about compensation, I wouldn't suggest paying for bad data...
jcpham: if he were providing a forecast or something i think it's a lot more questionable that paying for a data report
jcpham: i see the problem. but the irl solution is just as immoral
mircea_popescu: http://trilema.com/2013/i-have-a-problem-which-i-dont-know-how-to-resolve-so-do-you/
mircea_popescu: "At any rate, I would like to humbly solicit the best and brightest minds of our generation to consider this problem"
kakobrekla: ah but i heard baroquesque paleness is comming back in fashion
kakobrekla: i got sunburned from so much light exposure in last few days, just noticed im semi roasted.
mircea_popescu: kakobrekla i imagine he's going to show us all how stoopid we really are
mod6: i basically just end up hording btc since or sending them to use on MPEx since the trust level with just about everything else in this space is too great to bear.
mod6: i seriously do... i've had to navigate through all of these scams since the old days. i only got scammed, so far, by tor-wallet which was idiot to use anyway. Lost like 5 BTC on them.
mircea_popescu: pgp o fuck yes i confused them. bitinstant it was.
mod6: I figured it was worth a try to see how it goes. So far, I'm satisfied with the service. Will let you guys know how it ends up.
mod6: i guess i have scammer ptsd from all of this bitcoin stuff. There have been some ugly public fights about stuff in the past with them. But I've been talkin to coingenuity for a long time on irc and looking at the coinabul site a lot but never made a purchse.

zebedee_: Trying to think of devious ways to swap a version 2 for a version 1 with the people I gave them away to :)
zebedee_: And I have more version twos.
zebedee_: I bought about 30-40 version ones, with the bad hologram. Gave all away apart from 3, when I saw what they were going for :)
zebedee_: OK, thanks. I used to use offline electrum but have moved to paper wallets a-la casascius.
mircea_popescu: this is pretty much what i do in general, my blog is a heavily modified wp etc
mircea_popescu: i have a heavily modified bitcoind
zebedee_: Sure. Just was curious about the tech of the offline wallet, as I've been dealing with such issues in a personal capacity myself. If you don't want to say anything fair enough, though I don't really see what risk that might expose you to.
mircea_popescu: all i'm going to say is that bitbet server holds less than 10 btc at all times.
zebedee_: Thanks. I'm curious - how do you handle your wallet?Do you pregenerate thousands of addresses in and store them in a DB somewhere?
zebedee_: mircea_popescu: No I think you're right, thanks.
zebedee_: I'm a mathemetician, I like precision :)
mircea_popescu: i think that pretty much says it, wouldn't you say ?
zebedee_: But if I bet 1 BTC I get that weight? That makes it per BTC.
mircea_popescu: so i get what you ask now. yes it's per btc in the sense gravity is per kilogram.
zebedee_: Although it may be obvious, I don't believe that's explicit anywhere.
zebedee_: mircea_popescu: Right, so my total weight if I bet 2 BTC is twice what it is if I bet 1 BTC?
mircea_popescu: zebedee_ i'm not sure how you mean ? the weight is just a factor.
zebedee_: mircea_popescu: For bitbet.us, the weight is for a 1 BTC bet I assume (i.e. proportional to size)? I might have missed something but this doesn't seem to be explained in the FAQ.
