jurov: "do you have
the shares safely stored?" "yes, i have whole mpex database in cold storage"
mircea_popescu: jurov i'd argue
that making copies of
the mpex_db is pretty safe.
jurov: and i personally wait for someone
to aptly and comprehensively blog about
them
jurov: well,
there are
tries
to make p2p exchanges... but so far it looks
they are not usable for anything near mpex volume/speed
Bugpowder: I
think
the shares are probably safer in MPs machine
than in mine :-P
mjr_: but for
the coins, i was
thinking paper wallet in safe deposit box
mjr_: so probably better
to leave
them
there
mjr_: yeah no big deal, it is
the most secure i've seen really
jurov: there is none known way
to
take shares out of mpex and nto safe if
that's what you mean
mjr_: and was wondering if
there was something similar for
the shares etc
mjr_: i was planning on a paper wallet
that i could continue
to pour coins into, but would not be connected
to anything
jurov: they have
to be
there, for online
trading
to be possible
mjr_: where do you hold
the shares
that you buy? are
they in an account on mpex?
jurov: btw, i
think i left
there commented js code
to read mpex rss feed... so if anyone wants an example
mjr_: doesn't even show all of
that, weirdly enough it works in IE so maybe issues on my end
jurov: if on
the screnshot is anything beyond [Back
to CoinBr] [S.DICE] [S.BBET] Show
trades for last:
mjr_: i can
try other web browsers if
that would help
mjr_: i have
to do it in
the
tiny sliver at
the
top in order
to get
to inspect element
mjr_: weirdly enough i can't right click on
the area where
the chart would be
mjr_: at least all
the scripts seem
to have loaded properly
mjr_: does not appear
to be js related
mjr_: it's
the chart
that is not loading so it could be a problem with my handling of svg i guess
mjr_: but if i close
the inspect element, it doesn't load
jurov: mjr_:
try sending screenshot, i'll look what else it can be
mjr_: is
that not supported?
mjr_: and i have not seen any way
to change
those settings
mjr_: as far as i can see it just
takes mt. gox
mjr_: i really like
the layout and design of clarkmoody
mircea_popescu: if you make something a buncha people like/use
there may be a market for you in it
mjr_: i
think
there is some image which doesn't load and it blocks
the actual symbols
mjr_: oh yeah i
think i have been
there but it never renders correctly
mjr_: i have not, i will
take a look at it
mjr_: is
the json feed
the only way?
mjr_: ok maybe a silly question but i don't
think it was in
the faq (i'll double check) is
there a way
to see level II info for
the stocks?
mjr_: cool stuff, was
that a market order
that
took a few levels?
mjr_: about how maybe strong encryption should have been classified as a weapon so it'd be protected by
the second amendment lol
mjr_: there was a great xkcd about
that...
mod6: But still, people have
this kneejerk reaction about PGP. But I'm always like "But PGP is your friend!!"
mod6: those files will have
to be copied onto
the device in
the manual way, and
then
they'll be able
to be read in and secured, etc.
mod6: (that along with
their public key)
mod6: At minimum
they'll have
to export
their private key from
their keyring
to an asciiarmored output, so
that at least...
mod6: Even with BitOTTer,
the users will have
to know how
to use PGP (gpg)
tools
to use it
though. So learning
this is still required.
mod6: So
that's an awesome way
to do manual orders or do some
testing.
mod6: I was going
to add
though, it is great
to have a way
to submit orders right
through
the
textarea with
the submit button. I used
to do a lot of orders by hand until I wrote
the perl
thingy.
mjr_: i see no reason not
to just hold it, but you could just get in and out on dividend day]
mjr_: especially if
the market doesn't seem
to want
to price
them in
mjr_: i
think its awesome
that you can buy shares literally right before
the dividend and still get
them
malaimo: maybe
to pick up some "cheap" shares from people who want out after
the most recent dividend...
evoorhees: yeah I don't know why people would wait
to buy until after
the dividend lol
maximian: amateurs who don't get
the whole dividends
thing?
error4733: please you'r welcome
this month again
maximian: this should be evoorhee's full
time job… he's going
to be fabulously rich
mircea_popescu: no but in seriousness,
they're pretty smart guys, survived
the recent doublespend attacks
that wiped a few of
the betting people
maximian: the whole
thing is what,
two guys and a server?
maximian: Just looking at
the Jan s.dice statement. 1.2M BTC in handle is stunning… wow!
mod6: oh and MOAR CAPZ
too
mircea_popescu: course, since i was gonna have
to pipe orders in somehow
jurov: also
that would fall nicely into
the plan
to
tell noobs coinbr is all
there is, mpex is
the old version
mod6: but, it is
totally not required.
mod6: I mean, it exists as a way for people
to go, "Oh hey! It exists!"
mircea_popescu: im seriously
thinking of eventually
taking
the website off entirely.
mod6: I've never quite understood why people feel so but hurt about
the website. I mean, its really just a formality. It doesn't even need a website! lol
mircea_popescu: All of
the firmware and software we develop for our devices are completely opensource."
smickles: or wait, what's
the current diff
mod6: pizzaman1337: it'll be availble
through
the MPEx affiliate program.
mircea_popescu: Depending on BFL's shipping schedule,
the network hashrate could be from ~ 120
Thps
to ~ 290Thps, with Difficulty reaching between 15 and 40 million before mid May.
jurov: why all
the
trouble? just use
throwaway key. scan iris, pay 30 bucks,
trade on
teh mpex. problem solved.
mod6: ate up a bunch of
time
too, now
the code reads in
the private key, will ask
the user for a passphrase
to encrypt
the private key with,
then
that will be used
to decrypt when needed
to read in
the priavte key upon launch.
this will be a different passphrase
that is used with
the PGP private key itself, of course.
pizzaman1337: mod6: just curious, how do you plan on monetizing
that? (if at all)
mod6: pizzaman1337: yup, i've implemented a way... i started off
trying
to do some other ways, like a keystore, etc.. but
that didn't work out.
mod6: pretty l33t
there, verdad?
mod6: which leads me
to mircea_popescu's
thing
that he posted on
trilema about
the eyescan2pgpkeys
mod6: but.. its kinda rough with some of
the encryption stuff - and making sure someones private key is secure is a challenge.
mod6: one
thing im gonna work on
today is wrapping up json stat stuff. but
then i gotta get
that encryption stuff wrapped up.
mircea_popescu: smickles i
think racist is what pinkos call people who call
them pinkos
mircea_popescu: dude if you don't launch soon ima start sending escorts
to your door at like 2am
smickles: hmm, i don't recall
that article being much about race
mircea_popescu: anyway if mod6 evergets
the iphone app out
that'll be funny
