midnightmagic: No that's the machine I'm currently logged into right now.
Diablo-D3: yes, I already pasted that in the other channel
Diablo-D3: midnightmagic: yes, that statement does not conflict with anything I said
midnightmagic: "One great advantage of the NUMA architecture is that even in a big system with many CPUs it is possible to get very low latency on the local memory."
Diablo-D3: Ive never seen a single opteron box ever say more than one node
Diablo-D3: midnightmagic: anyhow, if numastat says you have multiple nodes, then either you're on numa or linux has a good reason for treating your box like numa
Diablo-D3: like, half the top 500 are AMD NUMAs
midnightmagic: "INTRODUCTION TO NUMA" page 4.
Diablo-D3: so if opteron was actually numa like you thought it was, it'd look like that except 24 cores
Diablo-D3: the 12 core CPUs that the new 16 core bulldozers replace are actually MCM, complete with two memory controllers
Diablo-D3: if it said 24 cores, you could possibly argue that if I didnt already know better
midnightmagic: Admit that the PDF I linked is talking about a single box!
midnightmagic: Diablo-D3: They've been around for years. I have been personally benchmarking them for years.
Diablo-D3: and more importantly, who would buy it when they could buy functioning opteron and xeon boxes instead?
Diablo-D3: midnightmagic: yes, but where would you find a machine that fits that description?
midnightmagic: Dude. If it is significantly slower, and interfering with other CPUs (so the effect is multiplicative), then it is orders of magnitude slower to access remote memory, and a single box is a NUMA box.
Diablo-D3: AMD skipped that step and just do what Sun and IBM do
midnightmagic: Even the little picture describes a single processor with 16 cores.
Diablo-D3: and we agree those are 2 socket machines
Diablo-D3: in 2010, AMD didnt make a CPU that had 16 cores
midnightmagic: It mentions the word "machine", singular, before that.
Diablo-D3: and count the cores, has 32 cores
midnightmagic: Diablo-D3: Where in the PDF does it say "4 machines"?
burnside: I think they're confused. Shoulda been btcto.ca. ;)
burnside_afk: [06:42] <jurov> too close to http://btct.co

Schadenfreude: The USA is in a bad state, the IRS and its jack-booted thugs might not care if what zou do is legal if it even is a bit dubious
maximian: some other non-US controlled TLD I should say
Schadenfreude: Even SE-Asia is better for that kind of business. In Europe look into Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Monaco etc.
maximian: My free advice (more of a longing): redirect satoshidice.com to satoshidice.ie or some other domain while you still can. The website being seized will spook a lot of existing players away.
maximian: If this uncertainty didn't exist, I wouldn't care if the share price was 0.0001, because I could be confident that I'd extract dividends for years
maximian: because you can still argue that it's just play tokens

evoorhees: I'll figure out some excellent marketing for it, but not until I've gotten some good legal advice on how to protect this thing

maximian: 'evoorhees' that is
