mircea_popescu: Duffer1 sokay, you read trilema next time yes ?
Duffer1: with the amount of coin involved it was a bunch of us that bought in
asciilifeform: Duffer1: i suppose the usual idiots bought in? not much of a chumpatron w/out the chumps
Duffer1: so much so that it being an outright scam is a very real concern
Duffer1: they were supposed to bring a bunch of hash online using their own proprietary chips, they botched it. that coupled with the epic incompetence of their pr it's all gone to shit
asciilifeform: somebody kindly clue me in, why was this labcoin crapola newsworthy to begin with?
mircea_popescu: i guess you get to sue burnside nao.
asciilifeform: trick is that they're already blowing this other fellow
mircea_popescu: if they're rational then there you go.
mircea_popescu: well ehre's the thing : if the worshippers are irrational they're statistically as likely to blow you as they are to clobber you (by definition)
asciilifeform: just get clubbed for your troubles
asciilifeform: go ahead and tell the worshippers that the heat from the sacrificial bowl warms the water, etc.
asciilifeform: its sort of like the steam-powered automatic doors in ancient egyptian temples
mircea_popescu: which happens to be the point of the entire exercise, after all.
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: doesn't matter if someone leaks a video of all the AGW folks fucking goats while laughing at the gullible public
dexX7: without reading, just looking at the pictures -> "oh wow, ipcc again"
ozbot: Climate scientists told to 'cover up' the fact that the Earth's temperature hasn't risen for the las
mircea_popescu: and to be incompletely honest, great company!
Duffer1: xaviar did a good job of making that painfully clear to everyone a couple weeks ago
ThickAsThieves: "To be completely honest, things are not looking great for Sandstorm right now. "
ThickAsThieves: basically someone told him his take on some things is bad
ThickAsThieves: only like 20 pages to go
ThickAsThieves: I wonder if Labcoin will survive to have a longer thread than AM
ThickAsThieves: "I know I'm in no place to judge strategies right now but that's just how I see it." ~Fund Manager
kakobrekla: uppity is tortilla
kakobrekla: ah long day, too fucking long
pankkake: to the core!
jborkl: well, it looks like a race to zero for icedrill vs actimining on Bitfunder
ThickAsThieves: maybe he prefers that spelling
jborkl: |*|UPDATTED|*| < maybe the Solarwind guy should fix the huge red a blue bolded typo
ThickAsThieves: ive played that one
ozbot: Enter Your Email - Lord of Ultima - Official EA Free To Play Site
mircea_popescu: https://www.lordofultima.com/en/ref/EgvYxC0YOVad95NXXgYLkA if anyone feels like trying out a browser game.
kakobrekla: 21:57.07 ( mircea_popescu ) kakobrekla : "or for that matter, someone doing 1 gh/s could solve each block from now on until the next olympic games. not too likely, but possible.". also subjective ? :D [21:55:23]
dexX7: is theswede75 on wot?
pankkake: not that I have a solution
pankkake: I feel like the times when blocks aren't solved for 1 hour is a problem
mircea_popescu: kakobrekla : "or for that matter, someone doing 1 gh/s could solve each block from now on until the next olympic games. not too likely, but possible.". also subjective ? :D
mircea_popescu: it's just that i have limits to my paranoia. it's all very healthy overal.
mircea_popescu: and i say "because it's not possible to do" and their eyes glaze over cause i'm insane.
mircea_popescu: then random bystander is, "why didn't you make them clearer!!!"
mircea_popescu: it's a nitnoy thing, but you know how it is, bets get contentious after they resolve.
pankkake: you would have to take the risk of a statistical variation
pankkake: and I do understand how hashing works, I would have prefered the pool only method but wanted to allow their bullshit about solo mining
pankkake: hmm, yeah the GPG signing of blocks would be perfect. well if they ever used the key for something else…
kakobrekla: but whatever, this is going nowhere fast and i have food on the table to eat so bbl
kakobrekla: im not sure i can unsee the likeliness
mircea_popescu: because signatures with a history have a value. my signature is oposable to me, i'm never going to share it for that reason. (miner than can go, hey, here's a contract you signedm, you owe me 10000 btc)
mircea_popescu: because signatures with a history have a value. my signature is oposable to me, i'm not likely to share it for that reason. (miner than can go, hey, here's a contract you signedm, you owe me 10000 btc)
kakobrekla: maybe not to bbet but to outsider
mircea_popescu: it's that the miner getting it can then sign themselves all sorts of goodies
kakobrekla: mircea_popescu dunno if 'likley' cuts it in this case
mircea_popescu: and then they pretend like they're actually involved.
mircea_popescu: sadly, people want to participate in bitcoin without a clue of what's what, how it works and why it works that way.
mircea_popescu: for instance, if i were to sign blocks with my gpg signature the suspicioun would be misplaced, as it's not bloody likely i've shared my private key with some random miner to win a bet.
mircea_popescu: of course this problem wouldn't exist in the first place if people actually used gpg properly.
mircea_popescu: i guess it is marginally valid, just as long as bettors understand the weakness.
kakobrekla: 21:21.55 ( kakobrekla ) ok so "some X blocks will be signed with as labcoin is mining them"
mircea_popescu: if i offer a miner 1 btc per block to sign it for me, that's just 1 extra btc he makes, like the fees.
mircea_popescu: a bet of the sort "labcoin will sign at least X blocks in octomber" is weak however, because most miners don't sign their blocks.
mircea_popescu: not too likely, but possible.
mircea_popescu: or for that matter, someone doing 1 gh/s could solve each block from now on until the next olympic games.
mircea_popescu: but because of the way hashing works someone with 10 th could still fail the bet.
mircea_popescu: make your block read "no less than X signed blocks in between Y and Z dates", that is proof of hashing
mircea_popescu: pankkake i think you misunderstand how hashing works.
kakobrekla: next time then
pankkake: but absolutely no one is going to vote Yes now, it's too late
kakobrekla: theres a difference between they will show the hashing or really be hashing
pankkake: well right now their proof does not even satisfy the bet (and they have less than 1TH)
kakobrekla: maybe if you reword the bet?
pankkake: and I disagree - very few people have access to 1TH
pankkake: " Easy to falsify with help from friendly miner."
kakobrekla: what was the reason?
pankkake: I'm sad that my labcoin bet was rejected. it would have been so good
kakobrekla: means it was higher than 003
kakobrekla: i mean if theres a [+] means previous not 0.003 was lower than that
Rulother: people just selling, thinking it would sell out faster
mircea_popescu: apparently there's money in videogames.

mircea_popescu: at least you could have left two spaces between ] and [ in that spot as a typo
ThickAsThieves: workin on it i think
ThickAsThieves: my devs love it when you keep changing the format

ThickAsThieves: Danny Brewster from Neo & Bee on Let's Talk Bitcoin with Adam Levine http://letstalkbitcoin.com/speculative/#.UjyI1cashLc
mircea_popescu: in ten years the cus will be just as corruipt as banks today. they are being corrupted by the government.
mircea_popescu: the solution is to get rid of aml, and general govt involvement. not to destroy banks by favouring credit unions.
mircea_popescu: that's all fine and good, however, that doesn't make its argument any sounder.
Rulother: I used to bank with BoA, until they got super shady
mircea_popescu: guess why credit unions can afford to not charge the 5 dollar per account thing boa wanted to put in.
mircea_popescu: because that other dude can then murder you on rates and pretend like it's your fault.
mircea_popescu: well, it's not a matter that they feel. it's a matter of fact : if you pay more taxes than some other dude you're screwed
mircea_popescu: "In spite of controlling most of the financial assets and basically cornering the market on financial services, banks feel that the credit unions’ non-profit status does not allow banks to compete on a level playing field."
mircea_popescu: weirdly, i was just writing on the topic. published a minute ago : http://trilema.com/2013/were-you-misled-by-the-internet/
jborkl: it is funny to see her name on there, and then to read how it got on there is even better
mircea_popescu: "lol. the idiot running the thread stuck my name in there in a retarded bid to make it sound like my criticism was actually interest. i addressed it, it's ongoing."
mircea_popescu: i can state with authority that we have no fucking idea what that is.
jborkl: I finally finished reading it and she was put on the list, not of her request
jborkl: reading a little more on that- LOL at PR for being a newbie
