kakobrekla: yeah btc crashing, tell your mother to invest to save it!! we wanna be rich again!
bounce: ThickAsThieves: elites aren't egalitarian, you'll recall. some are more leet than others. :-) the point rather is that if you're an elite shoemaker and son of an elite shoemaker you should be able to get in on traits acquired by exposure to shoemaker, not by dint of birth. even though that birth helped you along.
robwhiz22: Yes, I read how this works.
asciilifeform: but, what the hell,
asciilifeform went for a year of irc without having to learn 'killfile' feature, now has to look it up in a hurry.
asciilifeform: <robwhiz22> The offer is not unsolicited - as quoted the cryptome announcement welcomes critiques, which you have now received.
asciilifeform: <robwhiz22> An ad hominem attack does not make your current design other than totally insecure and snake oil. It does not meet the usage case that was published, and is unfit for any purpose. You and Mr. Popescu can refuse my offer (of course) but the behavior I have seen in channel does not leave me surprised that you have missed your Christmas shipping time by 4 months.
asciilifeform: how come we don't get unsolicited offers from useful folks, like chinese soldering gurlz willing to work for btc.

Apocalyptic: what nonsense is this
dexX7: i once reported a gui issue on github and his response was "In any case feel free to make it what you think is better, I'm sick of bikeshedding about these kind of details." >_>"
ThickAsThieves: "In any case, Van der Laan says his job is not to direct the bitcoin project like a dictator."
ThickAsThieves: some of this sounds good, some sounds scary
ThickAsThieves: that's true? or?
ThickAsThieves: "Perhaps a more troubling problem for those who manage a large number of wallets through Bitcoin-Qt, the software has an upper limit to the number of private keys it can store. If you generate more keys than the upper limit, the software overwrites older keys to make space."
punkman: so this lasts longer than 30 minutes?
Apocalyptic: i thought you were a mathematician
nubbins`: y'know, because humans can glance at a hash and tell if it's valid
nubbins`: "Well it turns out it could be resolved extremely simply. If the Cardano had any sort of display it could simply display the hash value of what it was about to sign: the user would manually have to click through to approve that particular hash."
ThickAsThieves: then if they use his info he gets both
bounce: ok, so, I'm not an expert and so I keep on wondering whether it's me or that guy who's not understanding, but at the same time my brains fall out. wtf is he on about?
ThickAsThieves: get the guy to escrow 54btc himself, and 54btc from SNSA

nubbins`: tl;dr: "I am happy to provide the above services at 5% of that cost, i.e. for $25,000 - paid half up-front in BTC (about 54 BTC) and half upon project completion (about 54 BTC)."

ThickAsThieves: though that doesnt have to mean there is no way they can lose it
ThickAsThieves: an elite, by definition, will always have a better position to stay one
Apocalyptic: "when everyone has a comparable shot at getting in" that's hardly true
ThickAsThieves: that's an ideal, not a reality though
bounce: in other words, elites work better when everyone has a comparable shot at getting in and the same risk of getting thrown out.
bounce: the existence of elites, at least the part where some people are regarded as "better" than others in some sort of fancy or other, is not bad by and of itself. the problems arise (and I'd surmise egalitarians' complaints partly stem from this) when people work on shutting out other people on essentially arbitrary grounds so as to, well, keep the thing exclusive in ways quite disconnected from the original merit
bounce: the bigger the node the bigger the guilt ;-)
ThickAsThieves: " The bill, snarkily named the "Let Me Google That For You Act," sets its sights on the NTIS for charging for technical reports that anyone can Google for free."

khersonus: mircea_popescu: sorry, was afk. Heh, yeah, need to work on the blog a bit.
bounce: the way I'm doing it now is simply recording all the info and printing it. I suppose that getting the results for a single nick would be better done taking the set union of everyone assbot has rated with everyone the target has received ratings from. that's only two json queries (or a single select given access to the database)
gribble: Error: User doesn't exist in the Rating or GPG databases. User must be GPG-registered to receive ratings.

mircea_popescu: i think so. khersonus add an about page ? a name, a pic of you in a dilapidated room with half a cloth in the window ?
kakobrekla: im talking about the blog, to be clear.
bounce: s/faster/quicker to write/
bounce: it'd be more efficient to output records as the first number changes, but this was faster. a small change in printing would save a loop a bit lower. that sort of thing.
bounce: er, the () isn't part of the output, of course
turbo_ac100: ehm python -mjson.tools that is

khersonus: mircea_popescu: fixed, thanks.
mircea_popescu: khersonus "the list increase to 495." => the list increases to 495.
bounce: oh, he's got bitdragon whom got +1 after I posted the list
mircea_popescu: i thought he said 432 ?
bounce: you mean he says 438 and I say 436? let's see where the difference lies then

mircea_popescu: bounce the frivolities that steal your time are the stuff life's made of.
bounce: steal people's time on frivolities?
assbot: Can't do that, bitesak.
mircea_popescu: i like how this thing just keeps swallowing more and more of people's time than they had anticipated.
mircea_popescu: bounce this is true.
bounce: anyhow, blithely assuming assbot only gives positive ratings in the script
pankkake: ok, that one is a bug in your script :)
