jcpham: did i just get called a shill
dub: nyRednek: considering the ease of throwing up a wordpress/bootstrap/lameCMSoftheweek its pretty hard to spot a scam on website appearance
jcpham: more than a year?
jcpham: time is the only indicator i have as a metric for scams
mircea_popescu: nyRednek the site that "looks like it's run like a scam" is older than most btc scams.
nyRednek: or just dump any securities i have that may be anyway linked with that exchange, considering that the site looks like it's run as a scam
jcpham: but it is not a requirement by any means
mircea_popescu: nyRednek well, maybe you should treat them separately. for what it's worth, what you call "pleasing to the eye" is, both for good theoretical reasons and proven through practice on record, a sign of poor credibility.
jcpham: don't get me wrong i'd like a pretty mpex
nyRednek: mircea_popescu, a bit of both
mircea_popescu: nyRednek are you trying to resolve a problem of credibility or a problem of usability ?
nyRednek: jcpham, hence the problem...that brokerage shouldn't be needed for a professional-looking site
nyRednek: because i'm a potential customer, maybe? because i'm not going to spend a dime buying stocks on a site that looks like it was thrown together in one's sleep?
mircea_popescu: i can appreicate that. but it's been in business for a while you realise.
mircea_popescu: i think you're a little late to that party.

mircea_popescu: small assets are a lot more prone to neglect.
Bugpowder: to be down for over a day
mircea_popescu: which opens up another can of worms : it was a realtively small asset (3k mkt cap or so)
Bugpowder: for a vps co
nyRednek: mircea_popescu, either way, if the asset was lagging in that manner, it doesn't seem like a sound investment
mircea_popescu: nyRednek or of someone who fell and broke a leg.
nyRednek: mircea_popescu, that would be a sign of a failing company, no?
mircea_popescu: if you don't, there's always going to be this lead-up string. first it misses X. then a little more. then a little more still.
mircea_popescu: the problem here is that you never really know what to do. i mean, if you insta-wipe any company that's late with divs/misses a report date you will end up causing a lot of grief for legitimate shareholders
Bugpowder: started thinking... hmm... isn't this a company run by a 22 year old
mircea_popescu: i honestly thought that the listing is probably bvps' largest asset. there is such a thing as a reverse ipo for instance.
mircea_popescu: jurov i don't imagine they really groked the complexities of running a public company going in
mircea_popescu: <jcpham> i'm glad you are taking care of it Namworld << to his credit he did buy a bunch of shares while they were trying to acquire.

dub: all that quality usagi trolling, now he's regressed into a rambling paranoid old lunatic barking at traffic
dub: its a little sad tbh
Namworld: Plus since everyone using MPEx already use gpg, signing to confirm their key shouldn't be a problem either
dub: or a friendly eskimo with tourettes
jcpham: it's also a robot chicken referece if you are unfamiliar
Namworld: But we still talk a bit with him from time to time.
Namworld: A list of key+shares will be given to rg

jurov: Bugpowder, I'll do it in a while.
Bugpowder: Actually, it would be trivial to add a sanity check to the pyMPEX script.
Bugpowder: Well if anyone that bought shares in that dump would like to sell them back to me for a reasonable profit, I have thrown up some bids :-)
topace: anything thats an order of magnitude out of the expected range should throw a big warning :p
Bugpowder: a confirmation step would be great actually
jurov: Bugpowder, time to fund development of a usable mpex desktop app, no?
Bugpowder: I think I just need to turn it off for a while

topace: you can sell them at a profit
Bugpowder: I just realized the massive dump after it was me missing a zero
Bugpowder: yeah its amazing what happens when you forget a zero
