DeadWeasel_:
I am enjoying it. just watching BTC go up and up and up, then way down, then up, the down again, then up alittle. then way up.
DeadWeasel_: because my saving is awfully small.
i've no debt, but not a big cushion either. long story
DeadWeasel_: but
I bet on gold, made 2x, selling that, want to go all BTC. all in.
DeadWeasel_: it doesn't seem so, just kinda scary. If
I did so,
I'd have to wager at least half my savings. as you can guess by the requirements, that is very small.
DeadWeasel_:
i'm asking these questions, trying to motivate myself to learn to trade some bitcoin assets.
i believe in this as crucial piece of the freedom triangle that is humanities future. also,
I guess
I'm greedy.
I want more than
I have.
DeadWeasel_: so your technology skills are self-taught
I assume?
Bugpowder_:
I think losing money trading is the best education for finance.
Bugpowder_:
I like to see that as the number of asks go down, the number of bids > 18 keeps going up. Organic bidding rather than impatient bidwalls
Bugpowder_:
I bought like 5 pounds of coffee off him
Bugpowder_:
I would be ok with 37, because Tesla model S
DeadWeasel_:
i have no idea, haven't used IRC in 7 years, just got back in for bitcoin
DeadWeasel_: crap,
i left my IRC on at work,
I'm not gonna get banned or booted am
i?
jurov:

smickles: heh,
i'm up 2500% since june 2011
smickles:
I do prefer to think in terms of % anyway
smickles: if
i recally the story of nathan r. correctly
smickles: < Bugpowder>
I always get less puts then
I think
I'm gonna get< that's b/c there is a volatility secret sauce in the calc
Diablo-D3: and then
I wont share the photos because Ill be too busy being rich
Korbman: mircea_popescu: haha yeah,
I figured as much
mircea_popescu: on btct,
I can fill my account with 100btc, put up to 100btc orders on each asset, and withdraw the 100btc << this is pretty rich tho
Ukto:
I will be letting Deprived know that it just wont be happening.
Ukto:
I just cant bring myself to knowingly allow lies and inaccuracy on my system.
Ukto: Regardless of 'pumping the numbers',
i think traders have a right to knwo that a bid is actually backed, and not just a fake number on the books.
Ukto: on btct,
I can fill my account with 100btc, put up to 100btc orders on each asset, and withdraw the 100btc
Ukto: its been over a decade since
i dod stock market stuffs.. if
i have $10k in an eTrade account or w/e, and and put up a bid for a total of $10k on something that sits on the books,
I can't just place another bid p to $10k for another asset, right?
Bowjob:
I mean on the leaderboards
mircea_popescu: jurov
i wonder if
i get a complimentary mag since
i'm being quited in it :D
mircea_popescu: JWU_42
i dunno how to read that, is it 4k btc in 194 diff orders ?
mircea_popescu: Bugpowder_ its one of two things : either a scam to sell a worthless site to some dumbass "investor" (which is what
i suspect, he;'s been buying his own gem)
Bugpowder_: maybe
I placed some buy orders after that
Bugpowder_: well
I tried to withdraw 100BTC from MPEX on Saturday to buy the gem, but never got my withdrawl
Bugpowder_:
I guess
I just wish it wouldn't charge me for the deposit until the created contracts sold.
Ukto: not sure wtf
i was typing
Ukto:
i ment to say yes earlier
Bugpowder_: So
I am curious. What is the rationale for having the collateral requirements so high for split orders. Since one side is a zero if the other side goes up, shouldn't a reasonable deposit for 50 calls and ~50 puts be 50BTC instead of 100BTC?
Ukto:
i cant post asks for more shares than
I have
awkorama: because what
I feel strongly in the bitcoin world is that it is hard to trust anyone, so spreading the risk is the next logical step
awkorama: by credit derivatives
I mainly meant various CDS contracts,
I am not really interested in CDO's or CDO^2's
mircea_popescu:
i don't see that any of that pertains to credit derivatives tho.
awkorama: mircea_popescu:
I already kind of did, is there anything that you don't understand from the conversation that followed my initial question ?
mircea_popescu: <awkorama> some exchange, where
I can trade credit derivatives << explain.
jurov:
i think cause btc can go 50% up and then 50% down in one month
Bugpowder:
I always get less puts then
I think
I'm gonna get
jurov:
i mean the reasoning behind that isn't there
Bugpowder: the collateral reqs on the SPLIT order are a bit harsh.
I think you should get 100 of each side for 100BTC, cause if one side goes to max, the other side is a zero.
awkorama: meaning, if
I lend someone 100BTC today and tommorow
I don't feel like having such big exposure to him anymore,
I can just insure some part of that debt
jurov: one can't just transplant real life financials here, just reinvent them.
I think MPOE was so successful cause it is basically short-term. It loans every month anew.
awkorama: 78% is a bad overall rate,
I give you that
jurov:
i mean in bitcoinland
awkorama:
i understand that otc cds market would not work, that's why exchange + clearing house that is (more trusted) is required
DeadWeasel:
i loathe things
I don't understand. Credit Default Swaps are one of those things (there are many).
awkorama: and
I don't know what the difference would be, trading CDS's on public corporation (e.g. IBM) or on S.DICE.. same thing really
awkorama: demand and supply is enough for pricing
I suppose
