naemsi: I note the 2011 correction was about 70% off and that held until gox got hacked
pgp: i agree regarding 200 MA... tested and held - I thought it would break... we still might retest... friday nights are historically bad for BTC...
pigeons: we're not, but i did nominate to induct jcpham to my trollclub since we lost a member
mircea_popescu: why do i get the feeling pigeons and jcpham are in the same trollclub
MJR_: and i think the 200 day, 50 day simple moving averages are all trending up overal
pigeons: yeah i needed to make lists to organize
Namworld: But I haven't got lots on MPEx
Namworld: I think I won about 350 BTC on options in March/April. Lost 200 in January/February tho
Namworld: I wish I could have sold then
Namworld: I had to sell 80 @ like 25 USD to buy a server for BitVPS. Not to start a business, just to buy some hardware...
thestringpuller: I want to see proof
Namworld: I had puts... they never got rolled back. Huge profits for me...
pigeons: so don't do business with him, i think you're a self-hating gypsy
pgp: i am not advocating that call should be cheaper - mp has to do whatever he thinks is right - just making observations...
thestringpuller: i lost more money on mt gox
thestringpuller: i don't see the issue
pgp: merely opining - i don't know what the right price should be...
pgp: i know
mircea_popescu: pgp i am not saying the bot is right here. i am just saying, it's not directly obvious to me how it is wrong and how much.
mircea_popescu: pgp i agree.
joecool: i haven't seen that idiot in a minute
pigeons: i swear he's EskimoBob
mircea_popescu: no but srsly. from this perspective i could see it wanting 200 for breakeven wtf.
mircea_popescu: but i am loath to change it because i have never done so yet.
pgp: i see
mircea_popescu: i mean this : each call sold counts as 1 BTC in the needed capital.
mircea_popescu: bot has a "won't sell a call for under X" to protect the book from padding. this because of the open auction style of the bonds financing it. you understand what i mean ?
mircea_popescu: pgp i wouldn't say mispriced necessarily.
lippoper1: Dare I say the market is becoming stable?
pgp: i see bots implied volatility at 600-700 on ask prices of calls
mircea_popescu: and based on the past history it had an engine made. as i said yest, i think security and pricing got melded together in some edge cases
mircea_popescu: "i have spent 8 years in romania, and im shocked that this mind is coming from this country :)"
joecool: i thought $70 would be a good number for 2013, i did a large buy at $30 feeling that way
Namworld: yeah, well I noticed the more volatility there was, the higher the asks the bot asks for
Namworld: I'd love for someone to pay me that much for the privilege of offloading their BTC into my hands
Namworld: eheh, no, I mean, the algorythm might need to be changed a bit
mircea_popescu: Namworld i'm aware the bot is in "we've been attacked by aliens" mode.
Namworld: I left with gribble?
gesell: on the web UI it looks as though I have two orders both at near max of the FIAT
gesell: So if I place two orders for BTC that "nearly" max out my FIAt what it does is fulfills the first and aadjusts the second to be for only the amount of FIAT left. Interestingly this will show up in the orderbooks (API2) but not the web interface
Namworld: even if they are slow... I think that's the reason tehy survive even if they can't make their exchange work right.
mircea_popescu: pgp no, they did i think
pgp: if they did - i'm sure lag would be a lot better
Skarr_: I'll at least know to keep an eye on it now.
joecool: mircea_popescu: i don't think they did it yet
joecool: <pgp> I thought they were putting the code change in on apr 17th <<
mircea_popescu: pgp i might be confused, but afaik it was announced as already done
Skarr_: mircea: you're kidding! I could put a 100,000 BTC buy on the books without funds?
lippoper1: I'm sure they threw a pizza party for that one too
pgp: I thought they were putting the code change in on apr 17th
gesell: Skarr_: yeah? thats something at least, if true. Will see if i can test this
Skarr_: gesell: The Gox system accepts the orders, but puts them into a Pending state. I'm almost certain they don't appear on the books until they've switched to an Open state. That transition does a check to ensure you have the sufficient funds.
gesell: gox has some scaling issues, and architecture issues, some policy issues. but i think they just can fix them all in time to handle the load
gesell: i dont think so at all
lippoper1: i don't get it, nothing is moving on gox
gesell: yeah i guess my question relates more to whales building artificual walls. as these appear to be indicators for people
gesell: i dont understand... i would think that one would have to remove one order maxing their fiat before making another one
joecool: the amusing thing is, when i came into bitcoin, it was the same story, they fucked up big and crashed the market
gesell: can someone tell me, is it common in markets that i can place multiple orders despite not having the total sum required for all of them. such as i $5000 and i place two orders for 100btc at $50. obviously i dont have $50x200.
mircea_popescu: i could see why in this architecture they couldn'
lippoper1: I don't know I heard they're using DDR 800Mhz ram
mircea_popescu: i have raid 1+0 ssd's, they're probably faster than their ram
thestringpuller: i've read the article you reference, but if mtgox isn't migrating to that model with all the money they are making from their success, you are more than right...

guruvan: as I deposit
guruvan: I only moved a little in for the excitement yesterday, and WTF shouldnt' they tell me it's a fucking roach hotel for bitcoins BEFORE deposit
mircea_popescu: if this isn't a scam toppling over i don't know what is.
lippoper1: i'm not transferring any btc in there anymore
guruvan: Well. I will be thrilled to plug up gox's verification queue with a few more people who will then never trade at gox again.
gesell: I think the headline on reddit now should be "USD skyrockets in value!!"
gesell: thestringpuller: if i remember bitcoincharts is sponsored by mtgox so they might host on similar lines
lippoper1: i think they DDoSed it too hard, when I see lots of .01 listings and then the DDoS comes, that's guaranteed price drop.
pgp: victims of their own success... lol... I'd like to victimize them...
lippoper1: thestringpuller, I think media attention will boom with reports of how people lost their life savings investing in BTC, etc...

mircea_popescu: MJR_ i was explaining a month or two ago how to get a fixing market for btc.
mircea_popescu: Doffx a concerted effort to push local bitcoins would be great i guess.
Doffx: And I need to be smarter and better at programming so I could just make my own, dammit.
joecool: i'm wondering how bad the btcpay accepting merchants got burned in the past day
jborkl: I am on and logged in
joecool: most merchants with brains that i've spoken to take BTC way over market due to risk (usually caused by gox)
jborkl: full MtGox exp? I think fuck up , bend over , no lube
jborkl: I cant even use btce , the troll box pisses me off too bad
mircea_popescu: or was. heh i guess we've been chatting for ten minutes here.
mircea_popescu: tho i've just looked and it's quoting nao.
mircea_popescu: jborkl i've had issues with the bot not quoting these past days because it couldn't get the price feed and other data.
mircea_popescu: i thought you wanted the btccharts json
ThickAsThieves: forgiven, only because i love the word poop
