mircea_popescu: spo let tens and tens of indians and somali kids twitter undesirable words, it's not
a bad net result.
pankkake: luks is
a header format for dm-crypt
mircea_popescu: i think its lack of popularity has
a lot to do with its usefulness.
midnightmagic: plus you can use stacked volume layering to stuff it into
a raid config
midnightmagic: one of the simplest is just
a plain luks crypted vol
Dimsler: whats the best to use for
a container
pankkake: it's great, it's secure, but again, not for
a 10 TB backup of millions of files with frequent updated and history
mircea_popescu: like if
a woman was washed by the FOSS, her nipples and vulva would be very clean
mircea_popescu: even if it were proper open sourcde (which truecrypt never really was) the entire "oh million of eyes" is
a total myth.
mircea_popescu: one DEFINITELY doesn't want
a populr packaging that's too likely to be attacked anyway
mircea_popescu: im just saying you know ? the tools are there, one doesn't actually need
a particular packaging thereof
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform, doesn't have to. you can give it
a ramdisk
mircea_popescu: anyway, if one must have container encryption, use the fucking tools. make
a tarball that you gpg encrypt
diametric: i have
a moderate reddit presence but not the attention span
pankkake: container level encryption is
a compromise
mircea_popescu: pankkake: I guess you could do file level encryption with gpg, but
there are probably better solutions << i still don't get why anyone thinks container encryption is
a thing or makes sense
mircea_popescu: anyone with
a reddit presence want to start
a subreddit ?
mircea_popescu: Mats_cd03: i spent
a moment imagining what /r/bitcoin would be like with b-
a mods << actually cool.
mircea_popescu: so what happens if trhe terrorists turn on
a huge fan on the side ?
mircea_popescu: pankkake, actually, you can use the cardano to generate
a multi-mb otp, keep it encrypted
mircea_popescu: pankkake, like thaqt except those women don't look like they could
a) operate the hardware ; b) drag it around in the sun for 16 hours.
BingoBoingo: pankkake: Think how awesome
a cardano keyed alternative would be.
pankkake: truecrypt has been know as
a shady unaudited mess of code for years
mircea_popescu: last i said this
a year ago consensus ended upo being "yeah but not much alternative"
mircea_popescu:
a regiment of topless-bikini camo clad chicks'd prolly kill
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Cardano is indeed the propotype of such
a thing. I'm thinking somthing like those hard to find widgets that occupy
a 5.25" bay in
a computer case.
BingoBoingo: Mats_cd03: Probably closed with
a last post of "Forums suck socks"
Mats_cd03: i spent
a moment imagining what /r/bitcoin would be like with b-
a mods
BingoBoingo: I guess
a lot of people are going to have to return to keeping their hard drives suspended by string over
a bucket of Aqua Regia
belcher: is there
a way to get voice if i havent been voiced on entry?
thestringpuller: i had the karma and submitted
a request but never got
a response...
pankkake: maged also
a mod on both /r/bitcoin and scamtalk
fluffypony: pankkake: duh,
a thermos is
a thing you put coffee in and it keeps it warm
Mats_cd03: no afaik,
a problem that has yet to be remedied
fluffypony: it seems to me that it's
a lot less effort to make an announcement in parallel with the change
mike_c: i'll give it
a try. thx.
punkman: "Encryption process is disabled. The current binaries can only be used to "migrate". You can deface
a webpage but the effort it takes to rewrite the entire source code, compromise the GPG, compromise domain et cetera is not minimal."
fluffypony: pankkake: also, I'm getting popcorn and
a whisky
mike_c: Mats_cd03: i need
a good electronic mix. preferably 60+ mins. anything up your sleeve?
BingoBoingo: Mats_cd03: There is
a non-zero chance
a primary care doctor is going to want to refer you to
a neurologist for carpal tunnel. This idea is just one more thing to try before
a surgery that has
a good chance of not resolving the issue or creating new pains.
Mats_cd03: time to schedule
a doctors visit, i guess. both need to be prescribed
moiety: i think someone probably climbed out of his arse for
a second to do it for him
pankkake: probably less than
a day. I've seen previous mass report witch hunts
mircea_popescu: <xmj> You wouldn't think
a city like this would be allowed in
a EU, EURO, OECD, "Western Hemisphere" country. << for srs.
pankkake: when I heard there was
a nazi greek party I loled. the nazis buttraped greece, and modern greeks are niggers in my mind anyway
xmj: Greece is
a member of all the right institutions to be eligible and way back when, their philosophers founded it.
xmj: You wouldn't think
a city like this would be allowed in
a EU, EURO, OECD, "Western Hemisphere" country.
pankkake: mircea_popescu: aspirants? but actually funny thing, in France polls are forbidden
a few days before the actual election
fluffypony: asciilifeform: wouldn't that be
a score - mpoe-pr is real and mp is the sock puppet!
pankkake: some subreddits hide the score until
a certain delay has passed. that's one of the few good things reddit came up with
pankkake: fluffypony: I've got comments downvoted (not on reddit but with similar moderation) for no reason. like
a purely informational thing, and as one of the author of the software that was talked about in the article. usually the first downvote calls for the rest of the mindless voting
fluffypony: or "there's no way
a site without
a responsive CSS layout and tons of JS can afford to hire
a PR person."
mircea_popescu: <asciilifeform> where did the 'mpoe-pr is
a sham' fixation come from? << perhaps from the "women can't exist" notion of your average basement dweller ?
fluffypony: mircea_popescu: well it's not like I have to work for
a living, so I have to spend my time on more useful things
gribble: You rated user sgornick on Fri Sep 28 05:44:50 2012, with

a real person, wtf.
pankkake: punkman: it doesn't have to be only mouse; but just the swithing, removing, opening of tabs helps me cope
a lot
punkman: pankkake: I could never get into keyboard-only mode. I rarely have any stiffness/pain anyway, just thinking I should get
a better mouse already
mircea_popescu: <punkman> pankkake: probably
a good idea for
a franchise, small showroom with keyboards, mice and chairs <<< this IS
a good idea. san diego or thereaboutds.
pankkake: I'm the kind of person who will align random stuff on
a table
jurov: i got mouse callus. but never
a carpal
pankkake: they're selling them at
a high price, but given how the import taxes shafted me, it's not that high!
punkman: pankkake: probably
a good idea for
a franchise, small showroom with keyboards, mice and chairs
pankkake: as for mouse design, I belive radical change is what helps. when I changed from
a heavy wireless mouse to
a small, light mouse, it was also better
pankkake: I have
a hard time being without it now
pankkake: mine works well with
a wrist rest, also
pankkake: I have two, the one at work is in
a better shape though
punkman: pankkake: saw some other ones browsing, I think I might try one that doesn't have such
a steep angle. Does the Evoluent have any rubbery things that are gonna decompose in 6 months (like in the thumb rest)?
pankkake: punkman: I've seen other ones but I don't think their designs are better. I have the evoluent v3, tested
a v4 and not overly convinced (but the changes are minor)
mircea_popescu: that aside, considering their burn rate and revenue stream... it'd be
a miracle if twitter survives any of us here present. but then again, i don't imagine it was seriously made to last.
mircea_popescu: they get whatever they figure they're getting. so it's
a win- win.
mircea_popescu: that thing is
a zombie, been reinvented as "high tech" each coupla decades since 1950
