ThickAsThieves: Nonetheless, paying with bitcoins can be a weirdly fun way
to make
transactions.
ThickAsThieves: “The way
the basic bitcoin system works is both incredibly solid and incredibly clever from a
technical standpoint,” said Nicholas Weaver, senior staff researcher at
the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, which studies and advances a range of emerging
technologies. “The system’s security is fragile, however, and
the economic model behind bitcoin is, well,
dexX7: doesn't sound very positive, but i like how
they list many bitcoin sites
dexX7: You can use
them
to pay for a pizza or make speculative bets
that could end up financing your child’s college education.
ozbot: Hackers increasingly
turn
their sights on stock exchanges |
The Verge
jcpham: i can't count
toa million
Rulother_: I have like a million
tabs open atm, so many forum and btct
tabs.
Rulother_: I got a bit in early
the other from when
they opened up
trading
Hiro2: Rulother_ were you able
to get in early?
Rulother_: same but I would just like
to double lol
Rulother_: the dump of
the shares and when it came back up, I liked.
dexX7: anyone here who likes
to sell some basic shares? :)
Rulother_: mtgox's activity has been declining recently
too, so I'm not
too surprised but
that's still pretty awesome for btct
freeroute: it's as if
the BTC stocks are
the new alt currencies
freeroute: I went
to bed at around 01:30 GMT+1 but had
this chan on. Reading all
the way up
to here was... entertaining
to say
the least
Hiro2: dexX7 more people getting in would resolve
that
dexX7: yeah, but sadly
to small imho
freeroute: the only complaint I have is
the graph not being updated realtime, and
the fact
that you can't specify how much shares you can buy approximately with
the specified amount of BTC
freeroute: so improvements in performance of BTCT are on
their way?
Urushiol: I find
the interface of btct a little obtuse
dexX7: well.. i sound like a fanboy. i am one, i
think xD
dexX7: on normal days you can expect answers
to questions or requests in a short
time and burnside really
tries
to improve.
the ipo yesterday was kinda special and he had less
than 24 hours for a custom solution
to handle
things etc.
dexX7: i wouldn't say
there is little support
dexX7: hehe from
the btct
thread a quote from mtgox: "First of all we would like
to reassure you but no we were not last night victim of a DDoS but instead victim of our own success!"
Hiro2: it's a mess, but due
to popularity a lot of people hop over and
the admin offers little
to no support
dexX7: and people seem
to dislike weexchange
dexX7: btct has much more volume
than bf, i guess
Hiro2: is it because it's easier
to get your BTC into btct
than
to bitfunder?
Hiro2: what's
the reason?
dexX7: i
think
the activity on btct five folded over
the last
two weeks
Hiro2: especially for a place
that could barely handle
the load
dexX7: 32k volume in
the last 24 hours should be ~125+ btc fees
Hiro2: Did anyone calculate how much btct made yesterday from
the IPOs?
dexX7: i
think
there is a steady increase of coins flowing into
the share markets, but at some point it's saturated and
they can only flow from one
to another asset. we had actm some days ago, yesterday
the labcoin ipo..
Rulother_: Yes I realize
the
timing of my comment
Hiro2: Ruother_ sorry what was
that? couldn't see your comment after btcgarden purchases
Rulother_: The
thing is, it's slowed down a good bit since being released.
Hiro2: well 0.7mil in 12 hours or so isn't
that bad
Rulother_: a while,
they have a million
to go
Hiro2: Hmm, I wonder how long it'll
take before btcgarden is out of IPO
DeaDTerra: I didn't know of
the new impossed max 250 BTC withdraw on BitFunder... and I need
to pay out some dividend on BTCT
Hiro2: not a myth but maybe very few are allowed, kind of like how another country
thinks Americans are all white, fat, and
trigger happy
Hiro2: Urushiol I'm pretty sure
that's a myth...
Urushiol: that you're so exhausted from working
that you fall asleep
Urushiol: I don't remember if it was China or Japan, but apparently in one of
those countries, sleeping at work is considered a sign
that you are a hard worker and people will sometimes fake sleeping.
pankkake: I want
to
trust
them so much on
this fact alone
ThickAsThieves: do you have reasoning
to
think
they will deliver anything?
kleecksj: Are you just
throwing out one-word responses or do you have reasoning for
this opinion?
kleecksj: When will btcgarden's prototype be in? Anyone have
that info/link?
parseval: Instead
they're still selling advertisements and user data
parseval: They could make a new paypal-like system overnight if
they wanted, with
their userbase
parseval: I
think Facebook could do a lot of
things
to improve
their price, but
they aren't
taking advantage of it.
Urushiol: because really, what did I know
that nobody else did?
Urushiol: well I guess I should say "thought" rather
than "knew" it was overvalued
parseval: They could have something solid and just botched
their IPO valuation... *shrug*
Urushiol: the Facebook ipo, for instance. I knew it was overvalued and
the people buying in at
the beginning were nuts. It
tanked pretty quickly. I don't know
that we'll see ipo prices for labcoin again anytime soon.
parseval: Generally, with an IPO,
the company is
trying
to get
the most for what it's offering.
They looked at
their own company and valued it at .001, which should send a signal
that it's overvalued if it
trades significantly higher
Urushiol: going
to
take a while for all
those shares
to be bought
though it seems. I was expecting more
to happen when Europe woke up
Hiro2: I bought it above
the current
trading price, so I am hoping it'll pick up haha
parseval: Yeah,
true, I shouldn't bash
the pricepoint
Urushiol: isn't btcgarden
the "eyes
to
the horizon" one?
Urushiol: Don't get me wrong, I'm skeptical
that it will get back
to
that level anytime soon; but if it's successful, it'll likely go above
that.
Urushiol: parseval: I'm sure people said
the same about many other
things in
the past like bitcoin, asicminer, et al
Guest82345: i suppose
the influx of new mining rig sellers are going
to keep
the whole stock market bear for a while
gribble: Next difficulty estimate | 36712808.9846 based on data since last change | 42243793.8916 based on data for last
three days
parseval: I'd hate
to be
the person who bought LABCOIN at .0044
parseval: I
think it's fairly safe, as
things go, but
there's still some risk
parseval: dandate2, What you're betting on,
though, is
that
their relative hash rate and hardware sales will keep up with
the influx of ASIC hardware so
that
they'll be able
to keep up
the dividends over
time
pankkake: also
their blocks are "watermarked"
dandate2: they seem
to pay decent dividend
KRS-1: i cant even
think of how
they could fake it if
there are network metrics
pankkake: well
they can't fake
the miners
they sell
mircea_popescu: but if you want
to get puristic about it... asicminer could be faking
their output just as werll as anything.
dandate2: i guess i'm going
to watch asicminer-pt and jump in when
the bear quits
KRS-1: must be a pretty daunting
task, especially with pre-order money.
pankkake: asicminer is
the only one
that actually delivered *something*
mircea_popescu: KRS-1 well
they did a first batch, except ppl complained about not getting some,
KRS-1: I
thought avalon did
mircea_popescu: asicminer is
the one
that actually seems
to have delivered substantial mining rigs.
dandate2: asicminer-pt seems
to have a lot of volume, is
that a scam?
mircea_popescu: there's some stuff i recommend not buying, and
that'sd about
the extent of it
Hiro2: mircea_popescu hahaha wha
time zone are you in? you seem
to never be asleep :D
Stardust: do you realize what does it make you look like Rulother ? i would be ashamed
to even
tell...
KRS-1: if you were in
time
VanCleef: i
think sandstorm has
the record for x20
VanCleef: has anyone done better
than x20 yet?
Apocalyptic: Rulother_, people giving money
to BFL don't deserve complaining
Rulother_: Especially if you were able
to get a refund, and
that money could of gone
to say LC's ipo roll out, I could of 3x my money.
