fractal: been saying it since i read satoshi's white-paper... i'm a futurist ;) unfortunately my event-horizon is usually
too far off
to be profitable
though ;)
fractal: if US Gov was smart,
they'd create an alt-chain, announce USCoin as official legal
tender (obviously after mining 50% and holding
them in
treasury. ) It would quickly surpass BTC as crypto of choice of
the general public, and hit $100B market cap pretty fast. Once other governments catch on, it will be
too late, and
the US will hold 50% of
the worlds cyrpto resserve currency. State-backed blockchains are a sure
thing in 5,1
mircea_popescu: "two weeks" is
this magical future
time of myth and legend when people fly and live in submerged cities
fractal: TAT: as a
trader in
the real market, i do. ;)
ThickAsThieves: even assuming
that, you act like people pay for bitcoin stocks based on 2015
Rulother: As long as I can keep on making money by
then
fractal: Still,
they will all be out of business in 2015 when Intel announces its 14nm chip. Which of course,
the US gov't will run, and keep BTC in
treasury.
fractal: Cointerra has
the most brainpower behind
them. KnC, Bitfury, Avalon, BFL, AM, are all likely 'real'. and
then another 4-5
that are
toss-ups
fractal: With
the amount of mining companies entering
the market in
the next 12 months, AM won't hold more
then 10%. i'm a buyer at 0.01
fractal: AM was worth more
then
they'd ever be able
to mine, and lemmings were still buying
fractal: maybe
this bot should
throttle
trades ? once every 5 sec?
fractal: BTCT.co doesn't allow shorting right? but
they have PUT options?
Rulother: I was on a dev
team for it some
time ago, during
the first set of betas. Haven't been able
to leave it lol
Rulother: I get back into CS every now and
then
fractal: two weeks ago i got into a shouting match with AM bulls,
they've been eerily silent since
then.....

ThickAsThieves: you distracted me of dreams of being
the pied piper of Eve finance
mircea_popescu: in
the latest development of wow, eve 1Bitcoin members want me
to sell
them fractions of shares now ;/
fractal: btw, wheres
the best place
to short AM shares?
mircea_popescu: fractal yeah, but people might WANT
to use
the same addy just for
that. and if
they don't... well so fine
then
fractal: TAT: if people use diff. addressses often won't be able correlate
that well
tho.
ThickAsThieves: just show
the addies of
the
top 5 most right, most wrong, most earned, most lost
mircea_popescu: VanCleef
the main concern is
that
the 1BN diff bet by next year is about even odds atm
pankkake: when I see
the weight isn't in my favor, I just lazily don't bet
VanCleef: so asicminer going
to get smoked by bitfuru and cointerra?
pankkake: I'd certainly like a calculator. especially if you can
tweak stuff (not sure how it would be interface-wise)
fractal: mircea_popescu: right. So, a big red sign
that says 'expected payout if
the bet were
to close now'
ozbot: Cointerra Expects
to Deliver 2 PH/s of ASICs in December -
The Genesis Block
fractal: yeah. i calculated
the payout manually. i'd suggest
that
the admin put in a js caclulator directly on
the page....
jurov: mind
the weight,
too
fractal: maybe i'll
take a gamble with 1 BTC on NO.... I'd certainly be more inclined
to put up 10BTC on NO if i had some recourse if
there was some sort of fraud after
the fact.
mircea_popescu: and in general, if you review
the history... patrick harnett was "controversial" until he met his end.
mircea_popescu: there's no controversy about his participation in
that particular bfl attempted scam.
fractal: ah i remember
that.... luke is a pretty controversial figure
though
fractal: mircea_popescu: we'll know after
the fact, if what i said above actaully happens. ;)
mircea_popescu: when Luke-Jr did
this exact
thing for bfl, a) bitbet didn't go for it and b) his reputation, such as it was, was permanently ruined.
fractal: The only problem i see with
the bet, if punin did infact put up
the 10BTC himself, is
that he can game
the results... by doing
the following: have 5 of his friends post pictures of boards, saying 'i got my order,
the specs are in-line, everything is fine'... and
then 2 weeks later when real people get
their orders and specs are below advertised,
the bet has already finished, and
the YES side got all
the BTC. gamed.
gecko_gs2: testing out android irc clients..
this one looks good
ThickAsThieves: in
this sentence: " am Red from China, currently working as a
translator in a JV." what is a JV?
fractal: he directly states
that 'sales are now open' and links
to bitfurystrikesback.com in his own post.
fractal: no. i
think punin = bitfurystrikesback.com
mircea_popescu: and even if
the chips miss
their chip performance, a unit maker could have a board with enough chips on it
to meet whatever arbitrary performance he wants.
mircea_popescu: but afaik bitfury makes
the chips and independent ppl make
the boards/units.
mircea_popescu: fractal but
ThickAsThieves has a point,
there's multiple manufactuers, one could compensate at pcb level.
mircea_popescu: i
think he comes by occasionally, but don't recall seeing him recently.
ThickAsThieves: is Bitfurystrikesback.com
the same seller and pcb as
the forum post/user you just linked?
mircea_popescu: so i just asumed it's
the same
thing
this
time. i guess ask
the guy if you're curious.
mircea_popescu: he had a different bet a few months ago where he actually put 100 btc down on yes, which i had verified
then
mircea_popescu: well, it was zeroconf for like 10 btc (you can see
this because
the yes bet is before
the site's own yes/no seed bets)
mircea_popescu: it's mostly his money on
the yes anyway, afaik, so what can i
tell you.
mircea_popescu: some users get pissed off with
the eventual results on occasion, but what can you do.
fractal: so in general, if
there is some ambiguity
to
the bet language, users
trust
the site
to make
the correct decision, based on previous fairness?
mircea_popescu: they may be btctalk users, with
the reservation
that post count is meaningless on its own, and it does not institute credibility.
mircea_popescu: well you don't get
to know who specifically arbitrates for obvious reasons.
the site does.
fractal: mircea_popescu: and
then
there's
this... "Atleast 5 deliveries confirmed by respected members of
the community required." who arbitrates who is 'respected', and are we
talking about bitcointalk users?
thanks.
fractal: what if
they ship 2 units
to make up for lower hashrates?
topace: mircea_popescu:
that "there will be blood" bet started, AFTER,
the 1 year birthday for havelock :p so already 1/3 of

mircea_popescu: at any rate you will now have
to send

to approve
the order and any future orders.
ThickAsThieves: do
they measure my discomfort when
there is no better checkbox
than "white" for me?
ThickAsThieves: what's
the new weirdness, I order a mouse from Logitech and is says my order is under review and I'll be contacting in 24h?!
kakobrekla: ill stay with my point and lets
talk about it in 12mo
