DiabloD3: -t sec Tell init(8) to wait sec seconds between sending processes the
mod6: i've never even seen -t, only that on *bsd/linux you can either enter "now" or a future TIME as [yymmddhhss]: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=shutdown&sektion=8
pankkake: googling "shutdown now" only gives me stuff about the US gov. stupid
DiabloD3: yeah I used to use -t now
mod6: wonder what distro that's for.
pankkake: I think the -t is/was mandatory for shutdown. I remember using -t now
mod6: gah linux, 3 man pages of SHUTDOWN(8) that have no -t flag, then you find this one: http://unixhelp.ed.ac.uk/CGI/man-cgi?shutdown+8
mod6: and thestringpuller if you use -r, it'll reboot. if you use -h, it'll halt and never come back ;)
mod6: weird, didn't see that in the linux shutdown(8) or freebsd shutdown(8)

Namworld: Spain knows how to be pimpin' its prostitutes.
FabianB_: almost where it was before the breach

TomServo: mircea_popescu: I think the longest was 21 days. Still seems odd to me.
mircea_popescu: TomServo i guess the reasoning is that if it stays shutdown that long it's never coming back.
TomServo: Some odd wording there...
ozbot: BitBet - The current US goverment shutdown is permanent
Anduck: did you bet on this one?
pankkake: no local pickup is probably the most telling
mircea_popescu: you can, but unless the bet says so you won't.
mircea_popescu: for all i care they can drive to their customers personally and make delivery.
pankkake: of course not - but you hold it if they provide a postal tracking number
mircea_popescu: you can't hold bets for three months on the theory that who knows, maybe the post office is still delivering.
pankkake: you can't bet on the postal system being efficient
pankkake: but it's shipping date that counts, not delivery date, right?
pankkake: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170332.msg3277088#msg3277088 so, shipping a day late (if they ship)
mircea_popescu: i don't see it. zero reports a day after cutoff. by now it's too late.
jurov: hahaha...did you read a log? there was a complaint why it takes so long this very morning
pankkake: all I'm saying is that the resolution is a little bit too quick
jurov: they would ludly announce shipping if they did. now if they said "we actually shipped on thursday" it would be very suspicious
pankkake: I hope you're sure no one got stuff shipped on the 30th though
pankkake: the "why" is obvious, they'll argue things unrelated to the bet
kakobrekla: pankkake any threads on the forum about it yet
jurov: aka nice to have russian friends on fb
pankkake: wow that knc bet is going to butthurt people to death
dexX7: afaik that's a seperate process
dexX7: the bet resolution is not necessarily bound to payout
dexX7: it takes some time
Anduck: but well i don't see my winning sent to my wallet yet
Anduck: i think it got solved immeditely after my "hmmm" =P
Anduck: still the bitbet of KNC isn't solved???
mircea_popescu: ya im sure they made a ton cpu mining.
VanCleef: asicminer dying in the asshole
ozbot: BBC News - 'TomTato' tomato and potato plant unveiled in UK
mircea_popescu: also in the news,
mircea_popescu: hey. morals are what they are.
jurov: oh, good luck with that
mircea_popescu: irrespective of that, the best and most general formulation of the limits placed on governments (all, no exceptions) by the social contract is that they may only act for cause (ie, react). agency is strictly reserved to the individual, and in that the individual is superior to the state, ie, more of a person.
mircea_popescu: isn't particularly convincing to anyone, but anyway.
mircea_popescu: notably the governments of today attempt exactly the same magic. "science" is now supposed to be the will-less, intention-less, choice-less engine that allows government agency without sin. at least in theory.
mircea_popescu: they came up with this constructed agency which was somehow magically devoid of will, intentionality or choice. obviously a lame duck (even to them), but otherwise the problem is irresolvable.
mircea_popescu: in general, initiative is the work of the devil.
mircea_popescu: indeed. the problem of divine agency (how god managed to create the world w/o becoming the devil) is the biggest problem scholastics failed to solve.
