asciilifeform: in the 'heart/liver' way.
asciilifeform: overheat and internal short typically go together.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform suppose the cell merely overheats.
asciilifeform: explosive collar which launches user's head (wearing a 'pickelhaube' of course) at the enemy.
asciilifeform: mats_cd03: delivered head << when i first learned the fact about heads, my thought was that there ought to be a 'head cannon' weapon
assbot: I am god - The Pub - Shroomery Message Board
asciilifeform does not own this battery, has not watched it die
asciilifeform: whether this was achieved, i cannot say from the picture
asciilifeform: presumably the cells are meant to be spaced in such a way that one, if internal short, does not ignite neighbour.
mircea_popescu: it has FUSES. but that's for electricity not heat.
asciilifeform: mentioned in the captions.
mircea_popescu: from what i gather the controler is watch only
asciilifeform: well it has those.
mircea_popescu: ie, cut it off, let the rest work
mircea_popescu: wire around the cell in question
mircea_popescu: but im curious wtf happens if one of the cells goes to shit and starts heating. turn off whole battery ?
asciilifeform: ben_vulpes: and the algorithm you described is precisely what i did. only gotcha is - the machine at present isn't running true.
mircea_popescu: <decimation> yeah turns out the 'advanced' battery pack is just a pile of standard lithium batteries wired in strings << i have no idea what's so advanced about it, basically the whole car is powered offa one of those 4.5 volt things discussed here previously
mircea_popescu: lol the many things asciilifeform is not

ben_vulpes: would never pass muster in any of the design or fabrication classes that i've taken, but i'll be surprised if it doesn't move from shack to shack for at least half a decade.

ben_vulpes: well, a face, and then rotate 180 setting the piece down on the spacers again before clamping to get the machine to define your planes of perpendicularity.
ben_vulpes: in that situation you mill one face flat on top of your spacers or whatever they're called (i've forgotten), mill the opposite face parallel, clamp in a vise and then mill the remaining important face perpendicular to either of the two previous
ben_vulpes: the face to which the thing bolts, and the face which bolts to the other thing

asciilifeform: shape was meant to be a square cross section.
ben_vulpes: not really an engineering criteria, that.
