BingoBoingo: The old 0.7.2+ would probably load fastest on an i7 because BDB doesn't parallelize well, 0.8.X and later on an AMD chip I imagine; an SSD makes a bigger bifference than any processor though

Diablo-D3: a high IOPS SSD would help
Diablo-D3: Chaang-Noi: but bitcoin 0.8.0 checks chains in parallel with multiple threads, and it also uses a lot less disk IO to do it
