mircea_popescu: ok so basically it's
a "get no interest and wait for
a year to hear which excuse i pick up for not redeeming" ?
mircea_popescu: "After 12 months, each bond may be redeemed at any time by bondholder for 0.01 BTC." seems it was
a proper bond.
mircea_popescu: dexX7 so basically what was it,
a combo btc principal + fiat coupon deal ?
ThickAsThieves: i had someone from CT soliciting me to list
a PT this week
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform coupla jews, awaiting to be shot by the nazis. at the last moment,
a courrier arrives with orders to hang them instead
dexX7: "For the purposes of the examples below we have used
a price of €85.00 EUR/BTC. An interest rate of ~22%/year (0.38%/week) based on EUR/BTC value at time of issue (eg. ~€0.0032 / bond / week)." ... "100,000 bonds"
dexX7: kate already "came back"
a few days ago
dexX7: well, i never would rely on it, but i think most act in good faith, others are like "omg someone will exploit this" but don't do anything and
a tiny subset may actually try something nefarious
mircea_popescu: whoa look at that, deprived is back form the dead to call craigate
a scammor ?!
ThickAsThieves: all i'm asking for is 20 minutes with Brin, and
a fat check
mircea_popescu: only the [intellectually] poor actually rely on it, and that's
a community you never want to serve
dexX7: i'm asking about deprived, because there was also creativx, another us issuer who vanished after btct who had
a rock solid reputation
ThickAsThieves: <ughlol> But
a social network. Im looking for investment. /// boy did he come to the wrong place
ughlol: and Indian investors dont give
a shit about anybody :(
mircea_popescu: except nobody gives
a shit what ugly girls think on any topic.
ughlol: I can't understand how investors dont understand that
a two man team can't make
a very great app, not in the desired timeframe. They say that they'll invest when they see
a prototype.
mircea_popescu: finance is
a profession, not something happenstance like picking up
a coin you found in the bus station.

ughlol: Have to do
a stupid engineering degree and get
a stupid job.
ughlol: but in the security world, at least in India, quite
a bit
mircea_popescu: ughlol well ideally you want to be known. you're not currently known. how you resolve this problem is entirely up to you, but sure, wot helps
a lot.
Neil: The fact that transactions (other than coinbase) are equally valid on both sides of
a split is also an under-appreciated awesome stability feature.
mircea_popescu:
a self adjusting mechanism that turns maxint variation into [.5,1.5] ?
Neil: mircea_popescu: It's nice, but nothing special. Just
a self-adjusting mechanism. I think the economics / incentives of bitcoin are the smartest part. And the fact (other than block size which was
a short-term expedient solution to
a short-term problem) that so much was left to just float (including the creation of altcoins for example). I think that took balls and real insight. Satoshi was
a cool dude for whom I'd love to buy
ughlol: And if you're worried about who i am, and if im
a fraud, I'll give you my real name, and you can google me! :)
mircea_popescu: i know of no previous instance of
a mechanism working so efficiently in all human technical history.
ughlol: But
a social network. Im looking for investment.
ughlol: not
a bitcoin business
ozbot: So you think you're going to start
a Bitcoin business, right?
Neil: Just coz the price bounces around
a fair bit has nothing to do with the robustness of the system.
Neil: Dude, who works for
a media company, says "but bitcoin's not stable. Not robust. I worry about ... " and I'm thinking "WTF are you talking about? I can hardly imagine anything more stable/robust". I don't think I can relate on the same level any more. Too many people want "authority" to tell them what to do / think.
ughlol: Hi, I am looking for investment for
a startup! :) Some friends over at bitcoin-otc said this might be the right channel to find potential investors!
mircea_popescu: by which point other major infrastructural points start suffering, ie, life in town will no longer be possible, but it is required for
a certain post 1700 level of social an economic life.
Neil: So I was at
a bitcoin meetup this evening. Japan. Which has recently learned about bitcoin (there was basically zip in Japanese 1 year ago on the internet, now it's on
a par with the information / misinformation content that exists in English).
mircea_popescu: TomServo perhaps he's senile. or perhaps he has
a point.
mircea_popescu: there's
a three part bit on trilema about essences, which really i'll have to have translated, it's too important.
Neil: jurov: well I realized about 3 years ago that all I'd been told about money (which was almost nothing - an amazing and likely deliberate gap of the education system) didn't make any sense. And I wanted to understand money. Started reading, and 6 months later find bitcoin (2011) and think wow, and then many things all became
a lot clearer. Perhaps I'm slow, but in most things I'm not. Just never had really been given the right
mircea_popescu: sure, it works to
a large degree, i can educate my slaves on
a very similar process.
mircea_popescu: TomServo the guy is definitely more worthy of being read, on
a ROP basis, than pretty much any economics professor. and he doesn't even charge.
mircea_popescu: just put them in
a well designed educatron/gauntlet and let them be
mircea_popescu:
a point often underscored by buffet re owning
a fraction of the hope diamond rather than
a whole lump of coal.
mircea_popescu: while it's easy to laugh at these particular retards, such as the parents of every romanian girl i ever fucked, this is
a bit like picking fun at the special olympic people.
mircea_popescu: this is
a story of idiocy and unbridled enthusiasm, and of how very stupid people fail to fall in step with economic structure.
mircea_popescu: "Mugur Isărescu, the president of the National Bank of Romania, estimated that it held
a third of Romania's banknotes at one point."
mircea_popescu: so suddenly,
a bunch of romanians without
a clue were real estate and industrial capital owners.
mircea_popescu: if
a company got 10mn coupons, each person got 0.0001% etc.
mircea_popescu: if
a company got 10 coupons, every one guy got 10% of it.
mircea_popescu: on the other side of things, the govt decided to split up all the industry, and create
a bunch of "shareholders".

mircea_popescu: (which is
a very lengthy discussion also found on my blog, but really not too interesting here, as to why)
mircea_popescu: because 50 years under
a state directed economy destroys entrepreneurship, something romanians never were very good at anyway
mircea_popescu: with about twenty million people who not only owned nothing at all (literally,
a pair of jeans would get you unlimited bjs cca 1988)

a good chance you misrepresent what "doing for oneself" means in this context.
Neil: Is JTD an understood acronym? Just curious if it's
a product of my history
Neil: In
a parallel universe with no risk you see, I mighta been interested in investing in some of your ventures. Though the terms are clear, it's also the problem, as
a)
a 30BTC fine to "play" means there's gotta be something worth playing for, and b) I worry about you getting run over by
a bus, for example, because c) it's all really quite opaque and I rate b) as ~2% annually, which is quite
a JTD risk.
Neil: mircea_popescu: So do you ever take
a holiday? Or is your life so fulfilling doing your thang that you never want to chill out so that delivering statements in the first few days of each month is never an issue? Is that job subordinated to anyone else yet?
bitcoinpete: ;;later tell mircea_popescu very sorry about the dubiousity. it's been corrected… the formatting on this one has
a mind of its own on the blogs-b-
a site but seems to be working well on the blog itself. my guess is the copy/pasting messed it up. thx for taking the time to read it and provide feedback!

a Google Glass trojan that secretly takes photos and uploads them to
a 3rd party. Oh, and got it into the Play store."
mircea_popescu: ;;later tell bitcoinpete the quote is good, but why does it come with
a lower scrollbar ? it's unreadable this way.
MisterE: I prefer
a .mp4 file I can play at my convenience
