I can already see that there are some odd formatting issues with the loglines sometimes overlapping the sidebar, but that may just be caused by my own wp-mp install

I'm going to let it run during the night and will hopefully wake up to 4 years of #t logs in a blog. Feel free to poke at it and lemme know if you'd like any tweaks/edits
mircea_popescu:
i understand the abstract appeal of, "look here, hash1=hash2". but what this means is things such as "it is not possible to have a timestamp. AT ALL." sure, in many cases timestamps are abused / fucking stupid. but this is not "many cases", this is AT ALL.
mircea_popescu: as to fixed binary output...
i expect that'll take a whole lot of doing, there's mucho "intelligence" baked in even that comparatively early gcc ver
trinque: right now
I've already got a musltronic gcc, so what'd make me care very much about yours is ^
trinque: ave1:
I have zero use for anything other than c, c++, ada.
ave1: As for current status,
I have a big patch file that works as part of the build scripts. So the genesis is feasible.
I could also put the build scripts (and other dependencies) in the genesis but this would need to be discussed in light of the OS setup.
diana_coman: fwiw
I'd rather go with only c/cpp/ada in genesis and then if someone else wants fortran/whatevers, let them patch it on top.
mircea_popescu:
i really don't see the problem with taking anything besides c/cpp/ada out
BingoBoingo:
I don't expect GCC is even the place folks would want to run these languages if they were nintendo-izing, but
I do wonder how much of a rats nest gcc is.
ave1: Good point,
I don't know yet.
I was think to remove these before the genesis as the whole thing ways in at 300mb or so. Plus, java and go don't even work as is.
ave1: O, and proposal for drop also had something to do with 5 images in there.
I'll just drop those, the documentation can still be read without these.
ave1: The version in gcc looks outdated.
I can keep it for now,
I agree that dropping documentation is moving in the wrong documentation (even if it is outdated)
ave1: mircea_popescu:
I used to do some work with Fortran, but not anymore so that could go.
ave1: just the number of files and space plus that the STL documention is everywhere and looks generated from something (
i.e. mainly clean-up)
BingoBoingo suspects it may be a bit early to cut entire languages out, but... this is not an area
I'm very informed in.
ave1:
I was genesing it, and will continue to do so. But with feedback in the loop. So, for example, gcc comes with an old STL html documentation tree, can this be dropped? (
I would say yes)
ave1:
I.e. for including / making it part of the OS.
ave1: As to ownership,
I can own gcc 4.9 and would like to work with trinque et. al. on this. The problem here is limited time, so my primary input can be information/communication at this point.
ave1:
I tried to make significant time available all week, but failed. And that's probably also the problem.
I first want to have x hours available and then talk. Should go the other way, first talk then just go with it.
mircea_popescu: diana_coman, im pleased to report
i buried your guy under enough material to last him the month lulz.
BingoBoingo: mircea_popescu: Nah,
I supect browser weird or page load/post interruption. Will probably switch out the avatar.png for m actual face sometime by the end of November though.

i turned the remainder into ro style refried beans. which holy hell...
mircea_popescu: incidentally, apparently
i originally published an earlier draft ; early birds might enjoy a re-read.
mircea_popescu: dorion, turns out
i needed a coupla fail tries before
i could produce a lierate comment ; plox delete them
diana_coman: ftr
I asked him to publish that precisely as a prerequisite to come and ask for feedback & help to grow it, that's all.

i think we had this convo before in a pair of articles
there and

i've been trying to find it for 20mins, fucking hell)?
i don't think it's so much that people even like playing the role, per se; the public has a MAJOR fetish for it.

i suppose the future holds a whole boatload of jerry springer shows about border patrols.
BingoBoingo: Uruguay nominally wants at least 90 days before the passport expires, but
I imagine the airline will throw a bigger fuss than Migracciones.
diana_coman: mircea_popescu: well yes, because had mine too and they can't do both at the same time and etc; around europe
I don't need it/care for it but to Montevideo
I'd need it.
BingoBoingo: Anyways,
I don't think there's anything else that'll turn the kid away from thinking marijuana could be cool than a high season visit to Montevideo.
diana_coman: mircea_popescu: not like
I don't want holidays even to visit waste in faraway lands; but that would mean first waiting for the gloriously communist ro embassy to finish futzing with the paperwork and issue my new passport so it can't happen right now anyway.
BingoBoingo: mircea_popescu: This is a point
I should perhaps weigh a bit more heavily.
BingoBoingo: diana_coman: ty,
I'll try to get it robustly packaged up for shipping by the end of next week.
diana_coman: so then Fedex it will probably be;
I'll get to sign an address and all that by the end of this week
I should hope.
diana_coman: unless you want to visit London as
I'd much more gladly pay your ticket than paying Fedex for that matter.
diana_coman: BingoBoingo: well yes, tbh
I even looked and return tickets London-Montevideo are ~1k even if bought without much time in advance; so adding customs and whatever,
I suspect it ends up ~same; but travel = time and uhm.
diana_coman: BingoBoingo:
I suppose it will have to be Fedex unless
I figure out an entirely different approach to this, huh.
BingoBoingo: diana_coman: Fedex wants 453 based on the unboxed dimensions, extra kilo or so thrown in. DHL wants what
I initially thought was 436, but it could either be 436 or 536, more probably the later
BingoBoingo: And the four cores in ye olde Qntra/DNS box are still AMD. Just... now
I got more drives to throw in it.
mircea_popescu:
i suppose this is a good point, yes they sold for ten bux or w/e, but in small amounts inconveniently packaged
diana_coman: not sure how the "won't pay for shipping those all the way from uruguay" directly translates into no value on amd processors; not like
I don't have around me mainly amd processors for that matter.
BingoBoingo:
I see value in AMD, but with portability at a premium...
I'm only interested in lugging so many cores around.
mircea_popescu:
i wasn't going to buy alf made crap to piss on it & set it on fire ; but otherwise
i have dozens deployed.
mircea_popescu: apparently
i'm the only other party seeing value in amd processors, what can
i say.
BingoBoingo: FUCKGOATS won value, hardware
I didn't want lost value
BingoBoingo: diana_coman:
I'll try to grab some estimates this afternoon.
I have a tiny suspicion DHL might beat FedEX crossing the ocean in your direction.
diana_coman: BingoBoingo: atm
I'm not sure
I have many alternatives tbh; mind getting an estimate from fedex/dhl for me?
I found
this estimate for the US in the logs, but
I doubt it will be similar for crossing the ocean.
BingoBoingo: Congrats to auction winners. Invoicing will be done later today.
I know how jfw and asciilifeform intend to take possession of their puchases. diana_coman and jurov please let me know how you want to receive yours.
diana_coman: more centralized might be a better description
I guess;
I mean "more organised" in the sense that it's quite straightforward otherwise but possibly it's just as straightforward in Uruguay too.
BingoBoingo:
I don't know about more organized. Just seems more centralized if the post office handles dispatch instead of the "dispachante" cartel.
diana_coman: atm
I don't really see the need for anything more than that anyway;
I'll set up again all the data backups anyway, ofc.
diana_coman: re OS the idea was that
I'll have to install remotely the proto-cuntoo though, wasn't it?
diana_coman: the q there was whether it's at least allignable, essentially; the reason why
I took a closer look.
mircea_popescu:
i don't see the merit. either it's alligned or else it's cheap, what the hell is this "pay us a premium so we can derp".
i ain't ever buying "quality" outside of republic, for the obvious reason
diana_coman: well, medium & macro businesses tend to be built around the website from what
I can see; so yeah, looked at micro and kind of running out of anything to look at anyway.
mircea_popescu: cloudflare is the internet equivalent of usg's fatca chantage mechanism. "partner" for protection or else get flooded.
i wouldn't hold it against civillians.

i'm currently running a wanderer to great funs, look through the later ships they get huge, 100ish slots
mircea_popescu: unfortunately (for them!)
i don't own them, nor are they in channel, meaning they haven't access to this font of "obvious, in retrospect" sense. which is the true drawback of "oh, we built our business around the convenience of a website" : it all but enforces missing out on pretty much everything.

diana_coman: ahahah; but
I had to make myself a new computer for working on the client!
spyked: and
I might eventually get an nvidia desktop just for gfx work anyway
spyked: esn't quite amount to 40hrs/month (10/week) though, more like 20-30, so
I'll have to use the remaining time for planning/writing etc.

http://logs.ossasepia.com/log/trilema/2019-11-13#1951108 <-- tried that a while ago, it's quasi-impossible to connect computers not owned by the company to the network, due to all sorts of winbloze and/or spyware requirements on the machine. imo not worth wasting hardware on that; what
I'll do instead is get some work-from-home hours, which would also give me almost a full day to focus on the work. this do

jfw: trinque, mircea_popescu: my status on settling the s.nsa auction invoice is that
I haven't funded a deedbot wallet before, and the above is encrypted to a key unknown to me, so
I would like confirmation from trinque that there isn't some wire crossed and when
I deposit, the coin will in fact be assigned to my key.
BingoBoingo: It... it's disgusting in ways the US trough style eateries have trouble matching.
I suspect it spoiled this entire country on the idea of frying chicken.
BingoBoingo: Aite,
I'll try to make contact, get him a steak or choripan, and try to put him on the IRC.
diana_coman: come to think of it,
I guess that's the root cause of my despising hope really.
diana_coman: ahahha,
I don't recall it but it does fit his utterings as
I got to read them otherwise, for sure.
diana_coman:
I suppose
I'd call it along the lines of "give them hope it works"; because it's also quite the only way it can work given the other side of "make idiocy cost more" - for as long as there is hope, the cost will be happily paid.
mircea_popescu: on some level, the obviousness of "why should
i be forced to decide either all or none" grates. false dilemma. but on the other end, the practicalities of "alright... distinguish then" are insurmountable.
mircea_popescu: in other news,
i'm considering getting an upgrade for mp-wp, wherein comments marked as spam are displayed for as long as the ip they were made from is loading the page

I ...know it; still mess it up repeatedly, grrr.

I imagine their engineers in government imagine that being more Zamibia will let them carry their socialism further on stored energy. "Cheaper!!!" Nevermind Uruguay, Argentina, and Scandanavia demonstrating the opposite.

I imagine this holds for most of Northwest Europe. "Nobody in particular needs us, but we think we are far enough ahead to have an advantage if we can talk everyone else into stopping with us"
