kleeck: They don't? How can I be cool, then?
ThickAsThieves: When it comes to investing, it's survival of the fittest, and if the people who are wanting to invest in your bond opportunity and haven't done enough research to know that you can issue more at any time, and that the callback amount will never be more than 105%, that is their business and their business only."
ThickAsThieves: you can't win: "Hey man, in your reply here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=265287.msg2867044#msg2867044 I appreciate that you're just trying to make people more informed about how this particular instrument works, but I don't really think it's your place to do so. kleeck: eASIC is partnered with ActM, eASIC is shown as a strong vendor in cutting edge technology, ActM is recognized as making a profitable partnership - 28nm isn't so "ZOMG TOO FAR OFF NO WAI" anymore.
lq_: and won't get in teh way of each oter
pankkake: easics has many clients, amc isn't likely 1% of their income
kleeck: Yeah. They are under NDA, so until that is lifted and we can see the details I don't expect may eASIC news to make waves.
Rulother__: hasn't really spurred much attention for am
dandate2: it looks like the annual dividend return on asicminer-pt is 2.5x higher than the purchase price. why doesn't everyone buy that?
mjr_: the reasons i was skeptical, is because they didn't use the company name
dexX7_: it wasn't the first time that kinda wrong mining news were published
Canth: I agree, it doesn't make sense unless they are flat out betting on BTC in a major way that can't be done just buying it directly.
mjr_: i don't think the price really moved much though
Rulother__: Reinvesting at .0011 doesn't hurt after all
dexX7: how's it possible that they didn't factcheck this?
mjr_: AND they didn't have a quote from Yifu
jurov: yes. and it isn't binary bet, if diff is only 78 million, you a still get 98% back.
jurov: !t m s.mpoe
jurov: dandate2: yes, except when it doesn't
dexX7: doesn't make much sense
Exocyst: Oh I don't want fiat, I just want increased BTC<-->LTC liquidity
jurov: no engine/cdn will help them when they can't get banking right

B0g4r7: WSJ ftl if they didn't fact-check shit.

thestringpuller: ThickAsThieves: didn't realize Jurov had as much depth on these as he does
dexX7: and the new mining comps didn't even publish prices
dexX7: today's diff was almost known the days before, so it shouldn't be big news
dexX7: what? because today was a diff change (which wasn't unexpected) all share values go down?
dexX7: today doesn't look good for mining companies i guess
Menoetius: hasn't that already been showed to be old unrelated news with company that also was called avalon ?
dexX7: oh wait, you can't read the article at ef?
dexX7: if they don't realize their fault in the next hours, this will be all over mass media
dexX7: in case you didn't get the memo, there is no avalon deal
dub: I shouldn't need a bunker but I have land and know how to farm and hunt
thestringpuller: Bitcoin, in and of itself, is in no need of any particular government or any government at all. It doesn.t need the Internet, as proven by the existence of brain wallets, and it doesn.t need computers : you could do the whole blockchain thing pen-on-paper if you had the inclination. It doesn.t even need people : it.s perfectly possible for gas molecules somewhere to play out keypair generation, hashing, blockchain creation and all that.
thestringpuller: you don't need internet to do bitcoin bro
frb: but yeah, i rather agree with deb, i'm still sad i didn't buy casacius coins when they first started though :p
dub: don't bother
frb: i hope you explained what bitcoins were so she didn't feel ripped off
thestringpuller: I didn't say tamper proof exists as of now!
mircea_popescu: thestringpuller i can't say it shouldn't, obviously. which is the similarity with ThickAsThieves' situation.
thestringpuller: mircea_popescu: s.mg has a lot of cash on hand despite lack of operating revenue; expenses are ridiculously low per month atm too so why shouldn't it trade high?
mircea_popescu: but to get back : great if they did manage it, and if they didn't it's still unavoidable.
dexX7: k.. "start mining today, make lots of B" isn't really attractive for usual people i guess
dexX7: don't nail me on "tv spots"
pankkake: isn't cost of manufacturing more important than efficiency for asics? at least right now?
dexX7: well, but you don't know if it would go below the ipo price
saulimus: that can't be right. doesn't that mean that there will always have to be investors holding btcgarden?
dexX7: they can't without new bids
mircea_popescu: don't i just kick ass ?
FabianB: !t h HIM
thestringpuller: I would say by september xbond will finally have equidistant liquidity costs for buyers and sellers, so it seems it all works out. Kind of a butt kicker for people who didn't buy more during IPO
mircea_popescu: so i'm talking to an old friend, haven't spoken in years. he's an accountant.
mircea_popescu: !t m s.bbet
thestringpuller: ;;later tell mod6 I'll send you a github message if I don't catch you next time you're around
ThickAsThieves: [20:32] <wavedigit> i just don't feel like registering at yet another exchange <<<<< but that's partly what we're going for, you signing up at Havelock too ;)
wavedigit: i just don't feel like registering at yet another exchange
ThickAsThieves: BFL: "Some say we have shipped very few products: If you complain that we ship little and that the difficulty is rising rapidly, you just don't understand how this whole BTC thing works.."

thestringpuller: mircea_popescu: All : the avatars here don.t use gravatar, instead look for an avatar.png file in your domain. << When you got a minute could you direct me a to a faq or something explaining that?
thestringpuller: miners don't deserve hedging then
mircea_popescu: thestringpuller not necessarily, but miners don't have 50k spare btc laying around.
thestringpuller: you can't sell something you don't have unless someone lets you short sell :P
thestringpuller: how can you sell mining bonds if you don't yet own them mr. ThickAsThieves ?
kleeck: I don't know the details.
thestringpuller: we can hedge price, but I've racked my brain over hedging on mining and it seems the answer to the question "how do I hedge mining" is "you don't"
mircea_popescu: there was a mm a while back but things diodn't work out so well for him.
mircea_popescu: but anyway, here are your problems : put am, mpex (and used to be sdice) in there, you've got 2 mn+ btc wiping everyone else into irrelevance. you don't put any of them well... it's weird parade. (which is wjhy i suggested making two categories)
dexX7: i didn't know the dax is capped
mircea_popescu: smidge you can't arbitrarily cap things out, it makes no sense.
mircea_popescu: the 2nd was decided on "whether it trades or doesn't trade" not on whether it's 0 or isn't 0.
Neil_: OK, then consistency please. Either price is zero or it isn't. If zero, market cap is zero. If not, market cap isn't zero. Unless contortious logic is applied.
mircea_popescu: a. refunds aren't terribly likely, thatg's for sure.
Neil_: OK. I can't help you.
mircea_popescu: well, as a matter of fact i can't see such a contradiction.
Neil_: mircea_popescu: If you can't see the contradiction in the resolution of the two bets, I can't help you. I've written it off. But IMO it's a black mark against the neutrality of the resolutions. I don't know how they were decided, but IMO the benefit of drama and 1% fees cannot be ruled out.
Neil_: Anyway, I lost money from the decision and cannot be considered unbiased, but IMO it wasn't "right".
Neil_: mircea_popescu: So, returning to SDICE, I personally saw contradiction in (someone)'s decision to decide that while the market cap of SDICE went to zero, the share price didn't. I don't see this as black-and-white, and that if you say the share price didn't go to zero, it's inconsistent to claim the market cap did. The third choice of "no meaning" would have been a more reasonable resolution IMO, but of course would have cost BB
mircea_popescu: frb i don't think he was looking for an apology.
frb: you should only gamble for entertainment, not profits. mircea_popescu shouldn't have to aplogize for your gambling losses
Neil_: I'm sure you didn't. But that's not the point. I believe you like drama, with reason.
mircea_popescu: well if it makes you feel better i didn't have a bet in there.
Neil_: I didn't like your resolution of the SDICE issues, which cost me quite some $$$, but I just sucked it up, I don't read it as malice.
Neil_: I like to read, from my POV most people don't like to be unambiguous, or worse, don't realize they're being unambiguous.
mircea_popescu: problem is people don't like to read.
mircea_popescu: i mean people made a lot of hay about bfl delivery in may bet, but... bfl STILL hasn't delivered so.
mircea_popescu: well, the people resolving the bets are not betting. i occasionalyl make bets, but i don't think theres to date been an actually contentious one.
