Well think about it, the first time around they went into xtian crazy, deleted most of the actual writings because "pagan". Then there was a plague. Then there was the one time they decided to emigrate en masse, kept records in the sense of "oh, here's some story I read on the bottom of a sack with magical stones"... meh, what's the use.
